Do you ever feel guilty for going to Disney multiple times? - Page 3 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Ummm yes and no - usually we go once a year together and then I go once on my own - this year I was really looking forward to our splurge as we were planning on a big trip to celebrate our 5th Wedding Anniversary, my job had the smell of going a bit pear shaped and given that we had already booked and paid for the cruise and flights I decided to save the money on our onboard vow renewal which was saving us some $$$ - I decided I didn't need to spend that money telling my hubby that I loved him all over again, I do that all the time anyway, so that did help to ease my guilt this year, in turn I decided to use that money for us to go back for Christmas LOL yeah way to deal with that guilt, it's a sickness.
Oh and if I had a $ for everytime someone said to me "wouldn't you like to visit other places in the world" ummm "no" LMAO
You're preaching to the choir!!! We were only going every couple of years - mainly because our kids were younger, and we couldn't afford to go any more often than that before. But now, we plan to go every year! We went last May, and are returning again April 28th! Our mission is to visit every resort hotel on the property. So far, we've been to ASmu, ASSp, Pop, and we're headed to CBR this year! We've stayed in condos off property as well. Disney is our happy place, our escape from every day stresses, and believe me, with an 84 year old mother in law that I mostly take care of at home, and my boys being 15 and 7 now, my DH traveling locally for work as an HR consultant - we need that yearly WDW magic to recharge our batteries. But, we also take annual trips to Great Wolf Lodge, and long weekends in the summer to different cities to see MLB baseball games, so we have other traditions - but WDW is our absolute favorite! We plan to try a Disney cruise very soon as well! So no - don't ever feel guilty for being a "regular" there are MANY of us! And, with all the DVC owners out there - they are probably there even more often than us "regulars" .
I have felt quilty when we didnt take any Grandkids. Then I tell myself Hubby and I needed a solo trip for just us. I have been there 23 times since 1990, Hubby after missing 5 trips finally relented and went and loves it. He is on trip 18. We have taken our Granddaughter with us on trips she is on trip 9 and she is only 4years old. We take our other Grandson with the 3 of us April and he is on trip 6 and he is only 4. June we go with Son and his family trip 4 I believe for them. you only live once I want to go enjoy it and the kids while I can still walk and go on rides one day I wont be able to go anymore then I have all these wonderful memories banked.

Love the Magic of Disney Thanks Dad for our first 5 trips.
No. Never. I've been to Disney every year since I was 3 years old and I don't plan on stopping anytime soon (I'll be 39 next month). We've taken our kids on vacation other places, Missouri, Texas, South Carolina, Michigan, Indiana. It's not like they've only ever been to Disney.
I'm making my 23rd, 24th, and 25th trips this year, 15 yo DD is making her 20th, 21st, and 22nd trips this year, and we own at 3 DVC resorts -- do we feel quilty, NO! When people comment about our addiction, we just smile and think of all our wonderfult memories.
NO!! I look at our vacations as investments in our family's mental health! Our normal routine is so filled with work, school, dance, scouts, etc... we need time to spend as a family; building memories that will last a lifetime. We've chosen Disney 4 years in a row and it's been 4 very different experiences. This year we have to skip Disney and go for a trip that costs less money but we'll return to WDW in 2010...without guilt!
Normally I don't but I have to say that I'm a little bit on edge about the money that we're spending on our upcoming trip. We got a great deal but yet a little part of me keeps thinking that maybe we should be putting that money into savings (what would Suze Orman say??) This will be our 3rd trip in less than 12 months. I talked to DH and he said no worries but I'm a worrier by nature so...
No, go where you're happy!! My mom's been to England like 5 or 6 times, because she loves it. Every time she does something a little different, as do we at WDW.

Looking forward to another Christmas with The Mouse!!
I feel guilty when I talk to friends and coworkers who have not been and we have been multiple times. When we are planning a trip I sometimes think that maybe we spend too much money taking a Disney trip and we should go somewhere else. But in the end, I realize that: 1) I save money every month for vacations and that we always have the money to pay for the vacation; 2) DS is only seven and loves WDW; 3) We have a really good time as a family there and now that it is familiar we enjoy planning the trip too!; 4) We visit other places too - we took our son to Hawaii last summer, we go to the Outer Banks, etc...
When we started planning our latest trips I did get some comments from other people - "you always go to Disney"; "can't you find somewhere else to vacation"... It makes me stop and think about it and at times I feel guilty but then I get over it. We like to vacation in Disney, well my son and I do - my DH tolerates it. I also know that I will always get great customer service and have many magical experiences. Most importantly my DS is only seven and as long as he still wants to go then I want to take him!
This is a really good thread! One of the reasons I love these boards so much is that I can always find a bunch of people who feel like me about Disney and it makes me feel good!
Debbie
Thanks everyone for your replies and wonderful insight! I know that there are virtually no other places that you can go for only $2500 for a week which includes park tickets, onsite disney resort, and dining plan. And let's not forget the awesomeness that is Disney!
YES, YES I DO! but then I get over it. The hardest part for me is that when we bought DVC and committed to multiple Disney trips we have less money to donate to charity. With the economic downturn that seems more important than ever. Because we have less money to spare now though my family has commmited to donating more of our time. This helps me balance it out in my mind. Also with DVC we are able to help bring friends & family to WDW who wouldn't normally get to go.
As far as going other places......well we have a whole world of experiences right here in Austin TX! As long as we are exposing our children to new things I think they'll be OK. I don't feel we are denying them anything by choosing WDW as our vacation spot!
I have some friends and colleagues that roll their eyes when I talk about my trips or think I've lost my mind, but then I just remember that Billy Joel song, "I don't care what you say, this is my life, go ahead with your own life, leave me alone" and I feel much better. If it makes you happy and you're not hurting anyone else, go for it. Life is too short.
well I am planning my 2nd trip, went last year and now this year in September. But then when I get back I will be planning my cruise in April as that is my 30th Birthday and I wanna do a Disney Cruise.. No guilt here. I know my family make me feel guilty but you know what they are just upset they cant go themselves
