As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

Sounds like when people come up to me and ask me those types of questions about 1 of the 100 dogs that the Seaveys have. I just make crap up (I know about 12 of the dogs really well and just put their info onto the dog that the question is about lol). I don't know how they keep all of the dogs straight.
I do that too when I don't know something!!! LOL. Its more fun that way.
though I do try to get to know all of the dogs, but they rotate out of our Anchorage show into the Seward kennel (where the 2 mile dog sled rides are) so I only really know the core group.
though some of them are on the teams running the Iditarod this year so I am super excited to see them in Action next month!
Congratulations to all the group winners and to Stump the Sussex Spaniel. After the Aussies are out of the running we pull for the herding dog, so we were rooting for the Puli. We were just excited to see anyone win but the Poodle, as they win so often, its nice to see other breeds recognized.
It doesn't really matter - dog shows are fun no matter what! I show my own dogs some, but we have a handler for the "important" shows. Its way more fun to be able to watch them out there with our handler!

Congrats to Stump the Sussex! What a beautiful dog and a well deserved win.
I was thrilled to see Treasure, the golden, place second in group. She is a very nice dog and it's nice to see her handler, Clint Livingston, doing so well for himself. I grew up in dog shows at the same time as he and his brother and sister. His brother Brian and I crossed paths a few times when he was working for a handler that came to Washington for shows. I can still remember the teenaged glances across the grooming area while we both worked on dogs and wondering "who's that guy". And when a friend said he has asked about me, I was just thrilled that he would even notice me. Ahhh, the awkward teen years.

It's up to the handler/owners to make this decision. It's quite possible that anyone they felt qualified to handle their dogs, already had dogs in the ring. While most handlers I know will make every effort to find someone else to handle their dogs if needed sometimes it just doesn't work out.
The first handler who was dismissed at Westminster was a former associate of Peter Green's (the judge). The handler also happens to lease the kennel he runs from Peter Green. The second handler dismissed was the assistant to the first. They used to be part of what was known in the dog show world as "The Green Team". That was the reason for the dismissal of both handlers. I give Mr. Green a lot of credit for making such a bold move at a high profile show. It really shows his integrity as a judge.
There's a lot of politics in dog shows and a lot of schmoozing that goes on between handlers, judges and even owners. Way too often dogs win just because of who the handler is. Of course there are also times when a good dog loses because of who the handler is.

No problem Lorie. Dog shows are kind of a passion of mine even though I don't currently compete. I'm too busy raising my girls right now.
I hope to get back into it in a few years though with the purchase of our next dog. DH and I have been chatting about our next breed. I want a show quality dog, he wants low maintenance. My breeds are Goldens and Corgis so he's leaning more towards the Corgi now. I've also dabbled in German Shorthair Pointers, Labs, English Setters and a few others thanks to my teen years working with a handler. Those might be options too.
My oldest is also interested in showing so we are planning to work with my mom's younger golden to get him ready for her to show in junior handling when she turns 10. He's a real goofball now and slow to mature due in part to his English breeding.

How cool! I once had a Corgi named Sassafras. He was very strong willed but beautiful.
We now have two Lab's - both black. The youngest has just the barest tinge of red in her coat. You can only see if the sun is shining on her. She really looks in many ways like a Golden except that she's black. All my girls are rescued. We're guessing that she's got one black Lab parent with the other being a Golden.

How neat Lorie, I love rescue dogs each one is so special.
My last Corgi was named Cabby. He was a really neat dog and could run as fast as my Golden could. I co-owned him with the handler I assisted for the purpose of showing him. When I moved on to work more with my champion Golden, he went to live with the handler's daughter and had a wonderful life. I still miss the little guy and his goofy antics.
My husband and I have an Australian Cattle Dog that my husband bought just before we started dating. So, he was never intended to be a show dog although he would have been an awesome obedience or agility dog in his younger years if I hadn't been too busy. He's getting older now and developing a few health issues and while we're not ready for him to go we have to be realistic. My daughters adore him and have no idea what they're in for when the time comes. It will be rough for us.
I could go on and on about my dogs.

Let me ask you, I heard a rumor that AKC is thinking of increasing the number of groups from 7 to 10, do you know anything about that? I think that would be really interesting if they made that move.
Also, after showing German Shorthairs, what do you think of them as a breed? I have loved them for quite some time, but have never owned one. After my fiance and I get married we are going to get a dog. While I have owned dogs my whole life, his family just bought their first dog last month. He tends to be a bit of a push over, so I was wondering if they are more dominant than not. I just want our first dog experience to be awesome rather than him feel intimidated. As a horse owner, I don't think it's possible for me to feel intimidated so I have a hard time knowing how he will feel.....
