The Trip that Almost had No Memories! Nov. at WL! - Page 3 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I would of gone to DTD to get a Camera. I can't wait to be there in November. I'm surprise that it got cold in Florida, no I'm not, I forgotten it was that cold back in 86 or 87 when I went with family.
PassPorter's Free-Book to Walt Disney World It’s hard to believe anything is free at Walt Disney World; but there are actually a number of things you can get or do for little to no cost. Get this popular e-book free of extra charges when you join the PassPorter's Club for as little as $4.95. A club pass includes access to all our other e-books; e-worksheets; super-size photos; and more! This e-book is also available for separate purchase in the PassPorter Online Store for just $5.95.
What a great night at MVMCP! I can't believe they don't sell digital cameras at Disney. I don't know that I would want to pay what they would charge, but I would if I was in your situation just to have my memories.
Can't wait to read more.

Can't wait to read more of your trip! Your lost camera actually brought tears to my eyes. I take tons of pictures everywhere we go and I can't imagine being there without it. Good for you for not letting it ruin your day. I left my camera and a bag of presents on my way home from Germany. I was incredibly sad.
Can't wait to hear how the rest of your trip went!

I woke up really early this morning. I think around 6:30 or so. My DH and DD5 were happily still sleeping. I quickly got ready to go and made the decision to take a cab to the nearest Wal-Mart to buy another camera. I quietly told my husband that I was going to get a camera and would be back.
There were cabs waiting outside WL so there was no trouble getting one. I got a really nice driver, can’t remember his name. He sympathized with my plight and offered to just wait for me in the Wal-Mart parking lot with the meter off .
When we got there I ran in but got sidetracked in the Disney souvenir section. I ended up buying us each a sweatshirt (since so far it had been much colder than expected), Kylie a 2008 t-shirt, a box of muffins and then headed to the camera section. I couldn’t afford to buy the same camera that I had lost, plus they were out of it anyway. I ended up getting a $90 Kodak that took regular batteries as I needed the camera to use now, not wait on charging a battery. I bought extra lithium batteries and two 2 gig memory cards. Now I was set.
Back in the cab, I started putting everything in the camera and even got a nice road shot to the entrance of Magic Kingdom as we came through . While still put out at the extra expense ($50 cab ride, $140 in camera gear), I was back in business and felt this huge weight lift off my shoulders. It’s a big worry to have to ration your limited pictures and not even know how they will turn out. Now I could zoom, turn off my flash and even record video. I felt fortunate that my mom had slipped me some cash for spending on our way out that I had used that for the cab fare and that financially, having to buy another camera didn’t make us go broke. The vacation was saved!
I think I made up for the lack of the camera the first day and took pictures of everything! All said I think it was around 3000 pictures taken on the whole trip . I learned a valuable lesson in this though. When I returned, it took forever to upload a whole 2 gig memory card onto the computer. I think it would be better to have several smaller size memory cards.
Next to EPCOT.....

Back to the trip report…. I returned to WL happy as a clam. Oh, forgot to note that the new camera is in fact, blue. DD5 was thrilled about that and said if we found my camera, it would be mine and the new blue one could be hers. Not to long after I returned to WL, our groceries from Garden Grocer showed up. Perfect timing ! We had ordered bottled water to take to the parks, jugs of water to make coffee with, fresh fruit, snacks, and beer.
We hurried to get ready to go (you’d think they would’ve been ready by then) and went down to catch a bus to EPCOT. It was probably close to 9:15 at this point and we had 9:50 ADRs for Akershus in Norway. We waited forever for a bus to come. I was getting more stressed by the minute about missing our ADR. Finally, about 25 minutes later one showed up.
As soon as we unloaded at EPCOT and went through bag check, I was off and flying, pushing our stroller as fast as I could go. (Another reason the stroller was a good thing, you could move from point A to point B much, much quicker).
We checked into Akershus about 10:50. I think they had to look up our ressie but still allowed us to check in. Next lesson learned (that we tested repeatedly), if you beg, they will still allow you to use your much expired ADR. Once we got in, we waited in line for Kylie’s picture with Belle. I was very disappointed in the way our picture turned out. I wished they had taken a couple of more to get a good one. Oh well, Kylie just wasn’t in much of a posing mood (and wouldn’t be until her trip to BBB ).
We really liked this character dining. The building was beautiful and the interaction with the characters was great. Kylie was all about getting those autographs and guarded her autograph book like this prized treasure, not to be touched by anyone besides Disney characters and herself. She busied herself with the task of getting it open to a blank page (not in sequential order as I would have preferred) but any blank page in the book (not looking to see if it was right side up) . We could barely get her to eat anything she was so excited about seeing who was to come next. DH and I didn’t have any trouble with eating except for when we were on camera duty. I loved the hash brown casserole and DH loved the smoked salmon. The food for breakfast was really yummy and this ranked in our top three dining destinations at WDW (that we tried on this trip).

Glad you got the camera. It was worth it I'm sure. 3000 pictures! WOW. I thought I took a lot of pictures. I had 1100 when I came back from our last trip. That is very impressive. I bet you have some great reminders of your trip.
