How our 10 year anniversary trip turned in to DS’s almost 5th birthday celebration PTR – YC April/May 2009 - Page 3 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Just found your preTR! How great that you get to be there for so long! Your ADR's look great! Have fun!
Thanks for reading! We're really happy to be able to make such a long trip. The airfare from AZ is a killer, so we've decided to make longer trips less often. Since we've got some other destinations planned over the next several years, we decided to make this trip even longer and we probably won't take DS back until he's around 9-10. Hiss first trip was in '07 when he was 3 and he's never stopped talking about it since. Hopefully this will be a similar experience and the memories will last.
Also, DS isn't such a fan of flying - so once we get there, we'll need a nice long break before getting back on the plane to fly 5 hours home. Getting the 4/3 deal really worked out for us!

Countdown to April/May 2014 Boardwalk Inn.....3 Generations trip with my mom (first trip) and DS9 (fourth trip). DS's gonna show his Gramma the world!
Mousekeeping envelopes are done. Photopass-CD is pre-ordered. Disney Reward Dollars are transfered. Garden Grocer order is set-up. DS's gummy bear countdown jar is getting pretty sparse. All the 'odds & ends' on our to-buy list have been purchased. Suitcases are out and stacked full of 'odds & ends' as well as some clothes we're ready to pack. I've finally managed to get rid of the 5 lbs. I picked up somewhere around the holidays with the help of 'The Daily Plate' tracking program. So now I don't feel so anxious about all those burgers & fries. I called CRO and put in our request for room location at Y/C - Overlooking wedding gazebo or waterside entrance. Now that the closet remodel is finished (okay, half-finished, but as finished as it's going to get before we leave on vacation) I've started in on cleaning up the house and getting things in order for the house-sitter. I'm also contemplating a new pair of New Balance sneakers. My current NB sneakers are a little smooshed at the toes and have been giving me calluses when I exercise. I'm running out of time to break them in, however, and can't make up my mind. Anyway.....
My plan of attack is to get as much as possible done in the next week so that there will be very little left to do in the week before we leave on the trip. I/We plan on doing a lot of relaxing the week before the trip so that we'll be in good shape for vacation. Since I usually work once a week as a substitute teacher, I've picked up two assignments for next week so that I can have the whole week before we leave off. Unfortunately, a few things have crept into our schedule including tickets to the Diamondbacks/Giants game and two birthday parties. I was also planning on keeping the week we get back nice and open (my mother's day gift to myself) only to find out we'll have another couple of birthday parties to attend and I'll have ........Jury Duty!
Well, enough of the boring stuff.....onto our itinerary.
Tuesday 4/28 Fly into MCO, DME to POP. Since we'll be getting in so late, we'll play dinner by ear. If we have the energy and time, we'll swing by Everything POP, if not, I'll have some snacks to hold us over in my carry-on. Since it will be later we'll definately take advantage of on-line check-in for POP. After a quick 'moonlight' tour of POP, it will be off to bed.
Wednesday 4/29 Get checked out nice and early, arrange transfer of luggage to YC, take a bus to DHS, take a boat to YC, Check-In. Since we'll be checking in bright and early, I'm not going to bother with on-line check in for Y/C. We'll drop our carry-on bags will bell-services and head off on a bus to MK and then a boat to Poly for Breakfast at 'Ohana. After breakfast, it's back to MK for a few hours where we'll let DS5 call the shots. Giving him cart blanche on this day will hopefully allow us to follow our touring plan on other days. After a few hours, we'll ride (hopefully up front) on the monorail to Epcot for another couple hours of DS calling the shots. We'll check back with the YC later in the afternoon to see if the room is ready and then head on over to settle into the room and track down our order from Garden Grocer. Then it's off to Spoodle's for our '1st' night tradition. We're paying out of pocket for dinner at Spoodles, so we'll skip dessert there and grab something from the Bakery or Seashore Sweets. Hopefully, we'll be tucked into bed nice and early....or at least not 'too' late.
Thursday 4/30 EMH at MK - Fantasyland, late Breakfast at CRT, early afternoon bus to Y/C for Rest & Relaxation before spending the evening at Epcot.
Friday 5/1 Pre-opening Breakfast at Crystal Palace, Toontown (Pixie Hollow!), Liberty Square, Adventureland, Frontierland (Since DS won't do SM or BTM, these will go fairly quickly). We're guessing we'll still be pretty full from breakfast, if not though, we'll share a CS meal. Again, early afternoon bus to Y/C for R&R before another evening at Epcot.
Saturday 5/2 EMH at DHS - Main priority TSMM. DS also wants to watch the Jedi Training Academy. He's watched this at DLR and is a little to anxious about actually participating, but very eager to at least watch. He's also a big Autograph Collector, so we'll be seeking out lots of new autographs at DHS. DH and I both love RnR and ToT, but we'll play those by ear once get get TSMM done a couple of times and work them in if we can. Lunch today is at Sci-Fi and then we'll be heading back to the Y/C for more R&R. After that, we'll be heading over to MK for a CS dinner and Spectromagic....hopefully it won't be crazy busy and we'll be able to grab a decent spot in Frontierland/Liberty Square.
Sunday 5/3 It's back to DHS again where we'll try to fit in Playhouse Disney, Indiana Jones Stunt Show and LMA along with some CS lunch and some more Meet & Greet opportunities. We'll stick around a little longer and check out DHS's version of the Block Party Bash which we've previously enjoyed at DLR. Post parade, we'll be back at Y/C for more R&R, a resort evening and dinner at Cape May Cafe.
Monday 5/4 EMH at AK (Contrary to popular opinion), but since we'll only be spending the one day at AK and like to finish up mid afternoon, we'll need the extra hour to get a head start. Priorities for us here are the Safari, EE, Nemo, FOTLK, Maharaja Trek. Back to Y/C for more R&R and an evening exploring/enjoying the resorts around Crescent Lake.
Tuesday 5/5 EMH at Epcot to enjoy FW and the Flowe & Garden Festivities, Lunch at Chef's de France before heading back to Y/C for R&R. Evening at MK for CS dinner and Tomorrowland.
Wednesday 5/6 Resort morning (we'll need a break after all these early mornings afterall) followed by Epcot for the afternoon and evening. Late lunch at Le Cellier, CS in WS for dinner.
Thursday 5/7 EMH (again) at MK. We've got lots of time planned to enjoy Main Street and the areas around the Castle. On our last trip we zipped up and down Main Street and scurried around the castle without so much as a breath to really appreciate the differences between MK and DL. For that matter, on our last one day trip to DLR, we managed to go the entire day without hardly setting foot on Main Street (Train to Toontown in the morning, Train from Toontown in the evening). So TIME on Main Street in officially in the plan so we can't miss it! Lunch at Plaza Inn followed by hunting down some decadent sweets (DH's umteenth Dole Whip/DS & myself will go for something or somethings chocolatey!) Then, of course, it's back to Y/C for R&R and then off to Epcot for the evening. Dinner: Tutto Italia. We loved Tutto on our 12/07 trip and are really looking forward to returning again.
Friday 5/8 Our last day in the parks. We'll start off in MK, eat CS lunch and then head over to either Contemporary or Fort Wilderness for some resort hopping. Then it's over to Epcot for the afternoon and evening. CS dinner. Sadly, we'll spend the later part of this evening packing for our departure. Where did the time go?
Saturday 5/9 Last minute packing, explore around at Y/C, B/C, Swan, Dolphin, check-out, late breakfast at Cape May, DME, Airport, Fly Home, start planning next trip for Dec. 2012? Can we possibly go so long?
So what am I forgetting to do? Other than make up my mind about the sneakers!
