As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I was planning a trip for June 2009 for DS graduation gift, but it will probably be moved to 2010. I just don't have enough money saved up yet.
Hopefully, DH will get overtime this winter. He works for our street dept, and winter is their busy time. I dislike snow, but it brings in money!
This trip is to close to back out of. Who knows what the new year will bring. If it gets so bad that everyone starts to get laid off ~ then you'll see a drastic reduction in vacations.
As a side note, we're staying at Shades of Green in a week and they're booked solid.

We can only afford to go to DW every few years. We had the cruise in 2006, but not since 2004 have we been to DW. So, the extended family (DSisters and their families) all plan on going in August. Unless something horrible happens (like DH or myself lose our jobs) the plan is still on.
Well as new DVC owners, we have some freebies at SSR that we have to use this summer, so I can get a 12 night stay on our purchase of 160 and borrowing 2010 points. I booked AKV and already borrowed so making triip is a have to. Have it in the budget so shouldnt complain....However as my parents are 70 and time is ticking for them to really enjoy a trip and I really want to add BW to see if I like it I want to buy 100 more points. I am waiting on the election before I decide. I cant book SSR or BW till Dec anyway and I dont want to be taxed to death and try to pay extra on DVC. I am throwing money at debt whereever possible but I do see DVC as an investment for our family for the next 49 years.
I had wanted to sneak in a 2010 trip, but that looks out of the question. If I slam this thing, I can get us out of CC debt in 28 months. Which is good because of my work contract I only have about 4 to 5 months out of the year to slam debt, then I have to save for taxes and save for summer living money. DH and I figured a freak out plan where we soent virtually nothing at WDW and didn't do a couple other tax related things and it only made a 4 month difference.
It all hinges on the election. I cant help but start to agree with another passporters husband who believes this was planned to fall apart 30 days out from an election.
We haven't cancelled anything official, but we don't have any trips in the works until our WDW trip in Dec 2009, and that's strange for us. Usually we have at least a smaller trip or two in the works, and this year we don't.

Looking forward to another Christmas with The Mouse!!
We booked a cruise for August 2009 (our 10th wedding anniversary) so that I had time to pay it off. But since it's that far off, I know I have lots of time to deal with a possible cancellation. I plan on making monthly payments, which won't break the bank. Was thinking about adding some extras (Romance at Seas pkg, couples massages) and staying the night at WDW prior to the cruise, but I'm going to pass on that stuff for now. The cruise is a wonderful gift in itself.
We're going over to EPCOT in Nov. for one night to enjoy the Food & Wine Fest. We let our APs expire this year, but we each have a 1-day ticket from our free dining package from Sept. We were able to get a FL resident rate on our room and paid in cash, so I don't feel too bad.
PassPorter's Free-Book to Walt Disney World It’s hard to believe anything is free at Walt Disney World; but there are actually a number of things you can get or do for little to no cost. This e-book documents over 200 free or cheap tips to do before you go and after you arrive. You could save a considerable amount of money following these tips. Perhaps more importantly; you can discover overlooked attractions and little-known details most people whiz by on their way to spend money. Click here to see free sample pages from the e-book! Get this popular e-book free of extra charges when you join the PassPorter's Club for as little as $4.95. A club pass includes access to all our other e-books; e-worksheets; super-size photos; and more! This e-book is also available for separate purchase in the PassPorter Online Store for just $5.95.
We only travel once a year so we'll not be cancelling. We keep a vacation club account just for this purpose and I'm pretty sure Stefanie would have a breakdown if we didn't make it for over a year.
Our trips for December are still on. We're all paid up and ready to go.
We are talking about trying to keep next year's vacation cost down though. We've taken WDW trips each year for the last 4 years, I don't think we'll be back next year
I'm hoping that by taking a year off we'll have more money saved for a really nice WDW trip in 2010!

It's in the back of my mind, but I'm really wishing things will get better. I need something positive to look forward to, otherwise I feel like I'm giving up.
We use my job as our "fun" money, but decided to put it in the bank this year (for a slush fund) instead of spending it on a yearly family vacation. In addition, DH and I go to Mexico yearly and stay with relatives who retired there. With airfare currently at 1300.00 for the two of us, we decided not to go this year. Again, just more money going into savings in case we need it. We have a second car payment for the first time in 6 years, so that's an added expense. I'm going through WDW withdrawel though! Maybe WDW will be offering some good deals in the future if travel is down and then we can use some of the slush fund (if it's still there)!
