As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

I too have more vaction time than my DH so use it to do my own thing. A sit has been said before they usually go and do fishing or golfing without us women so why not us go off and do our own thing too.

Yes, it's perfectly normal! Just because you're a wife and mother doesn't mean you stop being an individual! Hasn't he ever gone golfing or fishing with just the guys? I think it may even be healthy to step back, take a break from your family. They will appreciate you more when they see what happens when you're not around to take care of them, and you have a chance to miss them and learn to appreciate what a great family you have.
Don't worry, you are perfectly normal. ( or at the very least, just as crazy as the rest of us!)
I really appreciate the feedback! It is wonderful to know I am normal. He really loves Disney too and I do feel bad not taking my daughter, but I don't think anyone will go mad without mommy/wife for one week out of the year. I never went to Disney as a child, so as an adult I am hooked! I really want to see it all, (all I can in a week right?) I am sure by the time we go in August, he will be fine. I think we all need a break from the everyday routine of family life. Thanks!!

I've never been on a girls only Disney trip, but I take girls only trips at least once a year and sometimes more often. DH loves Disney as much as I do so I just can't go there without him but he'd probably be OK with it if I wanted to go.
I'm taking dd to WDW in July for her 7th birthday...just the two of us. Dh and ds (2yo) will hang at home.
We all spent 8 nights at POR in December (and ds turned 2yo while there) so this is all for dd.
Dh is threatening to take ds to WDW for HIS 7th birthday in 2012... but I told him that "I" am the Disney freak in the family so I need to take him! LOL

This annoys me. My husband has had two golf trips (4 days each) almost every year for the past 7 years (without my kids or I). My dad took hunting or fishing trips all of the time. Why is that considered normal, but when the woman takes a trip it's questioned?? I haven't personally taken trips without DH-- we have gone on trips without the kids together (but I also don't work, so I sort of feel funny about it), however, now that I'm in nursing school, one of my nursing school friends and I have planned a trip to vegas before we graduate--- and, to my surprise, my husband thought it was a great idea! He's such a keeper. And, I've also told him that I've found a matchbox twenty friend, and the next time they tour (since I if all goes well, I'll be working), I will be taking a trip or two to see them in more cities, and he said ok. So, add me to your list!!! I probably wouldn't go to Disney (only because we go there every year, and I'm up for different destinations), although I have done Disney with DH and no kids (twice), and didn't feel bad at all about it (My 4yo is getting ready for his 6th trip to Disney, so I really dont' feel bad going on a trip alone)

It would seem more reasonable for society to believe that people should do what they are best at. Which ever parent is best at child rearing or share equally to care for the kids.
Ok, maybe a little off point here, but from a guy's point of view we do it all of the time. I go on a fishing trip with friends of mine every year. We are ususally only gone for 4 days though, not a whole week, and my wife loves the time that I am gone. My dd calls several times a day, and wants to know why she can't go? Back to the question, I don't think that is unusual.
WDW is such a special place for our family. We have made Disney our dream vacation spot and since the cost is so huge to get there from Australia, I would hope my DH NEVER wanted to go there without all of us - I wouldn't go without him either. He went to Disneyland for 5 days without the rest of us when he went on a trip with some friends but I was pregnant and didn't want to go then. that said my DH and I are planning on visiting Tokyo DL without the kids next year. (Hi Grandma!) If we lived closer and it wasn't a huge expense I'd say "go and have fun solo".
