Disney's Port Orleans French Quarter (Disney Moderate Resort) - Page 3 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

We're staying at POFQ again in April 2010. We love this resort! It's a great size, food court is very good & it's beautiful. The boat ride to DTD is very enjoyable & relaxing. Rooms are a decent size & we love the privacy curtain at the sink area.
Last trip we weren't able to book POFQ & it was very disappointing. Can't wait to go back!!!!
We just returned from our 8 night stay at POFQ. It was wonderful. The CMs at the front desk are extremely helpful. Mousekeeping was great, we were lucky enough to receive towel designs and fun with DD's stuffed friends. The grounds were very well kept. It was quiet and peaceful. The food area was always clean and well stocked. The boat to DTD and POR is very convenient and enjoyable. We will be staying here again (as soon as possible )!!!
We stayed here in August for our honeymoon. We were surprised with a water view upgrade. The resort is very compact so really no room is very far from the food court, pool, or bus stop. CM's were always friendly and helpful. The food court is small but adequate. There is only one pool - the main themed one, no quiet pools. We never felt the pool was crowded - during the day or at night. The boat to Downtown Disney is wonderful, a nice change from the buses, and especially nice at night. The grounds are beautiful and the rooms nicely decorated. Pictures of this resort just don't do it justice. The only negative we found was sharing the bus with Riverside in the afternoons. It took us an hour to get to Hollywood Studios since we had to stop at every Riverside stop first. Lines for the buses back to the resort at park closings could be quite long as well. ALso if you like to rent watercraft or bikes you would need to go to Riverside, so this could be a downside if your family likes to do these things. We would absolutely stay here in the future.

This was our second stay at POFQ - the first was my first Disney visit in 2002. I didn't make any special room requests, and we were put in building 7; however, this resort is so small that even being in the farthest building is no problem. The only real downside was that it was a little bit of a hike in the mornings to fill our mugs.
I had heard reports that the rooms needed rehab, and I will say that our room wasn't perfect. There was a tear in one of the bedspreads, the drawers "magically" kept opening in the dresser, and the tub grouting had seen better days. However, it wasn't anything we couldn't live with. We had a towel Mickey when we arrived but received no other towel art during our stay. However, our room was cleaned adequately every day.
The theming is wonderful. My SIL, who normally stays only at the Poly, came for part of our trip, and she loved POFQ. The pool never felt overly crowded; neither did the food court. We ate at the food court one night; the jambalaya was pretty good. We took the boat to DTD the first night, and that was a great experience. We had very little trouble with buses; most of the time we didn't make the morning stops at POR but went directly to the parks.
I love POFQ; it's my favorite resort and I will continue to stay here. Pros in particular for me are the small size, the nice kid-friendly pool, being the first bus stop; and the theming in general. Cons would be that the rooms in general appear to need some freshening, and I do wish they'd put in queen beds.
After studying every hotel at WDW for our trip in December, we selected POFQ. Traveling with my family of 4, my parents, and brother, sister-in-law, and nephew, I felt that POFQ would fit all our needs and boy was I dead on!!!
POFQ was absolutely beautiful. The southern charm you came to expect from New Orleans, the Mardi-Gras and Princess and the Frog theming were amazing, and don't forget the layout of the resort!!
We had requested building 4 (thanks to my studying!!) and it was perfect. We were very close to refill those coffee mugs, swim, do laundry, catch the bus or the ferry! I think one night I even went and had warm beignets at 11 P.M.!
Our rooms were nice, Mousekeeping kept my kids "freaked" out about the towel animals, but I found it adorable! A tad more more work could have been done in the bathroom, but the way I see it is you are there to sleep and shower!
After our trip was over and the review of everything was done, the overwhelming conclusion that we would come back and request this hotel and building was it! We even had free dining and thought about upgrading to deluxe, but why if you have this! Thanks to all my Passporter friends for helping me make this trip memorable!

Our very first trip to WDW, we stayed at POFQ. It was just amazing. Very nice rooms, atmosphere, and staff. I met several people while staying there, one female from Illinois; but who attended a local college near me, one from Houston (Texas BABY!!!) and another lady who lived roughly 30 minutes away from me....but in Mexico. I highly recommend this hotel.
I have talked to my DGF about where she would like to stay, and she seems to be turned on by POFQ. Guess we will see then.
I have stayed at Port Orleans once and it was an amazing experience. It was with 4 adults (mom, dad, brother, myself) and the room was just fine. My mother was in a wheel chair and everything was perfect for her. The resort is smaller than most which made it sweeter or us. I really recommend this resort for couples. It has beauty everywhere. The transportation to the rest of WDW was great. Since it is a smaller resort the bus waiting time was a bit longer but the bus didn't full up as bad as bigger resorts tend to. You have boat access to DTD was great.

Reason: Score was not right
I love this resort. Depending on the time of year it can be quite reasonable. It feel's (and is) so much more upscale than the Value resorts. I love the boat service to Downtown Disney. The bus service was very good. Much better than some of the other Resorts. It does make a stop at the other Hotel but still it was better than some resorts. The pool was ok and crowded but the hot tub (Spa) was nice, I only wish they didn't allow kids. My only complaint was the Food. There were nice touches such as Beniet, but most of the food was typical Cafeteria style that you would expect at a Value Resort and not inexpensive. We ended up eating our meals at the parks and using this for quick snacks and the Free Refill Beverages. On a longer stay the refrigerator was a nice bonus. We made a run to the grocery store. Overall I liked the style of this resort and it was definitely worth the upgrade for a longer trip. For a quick (2-3 day) trip I would go with Pop Century. We enjoyed going to the Polynesian for drinks by the "Beach" but I do not feel the accommodations are that much better for the money at Deluxe Resorts.

Reason: Forgot to mention Bus service
I decided to try POFQ since it was one of the last moderate resorts we haven't tried. (Ft. Wilderness is the very last but I don't see us staying there).
- We liked the small size of the resort from a bus standpoint (We used the bus for MK, EP and AK) and walking around it. We had our car so we chose to drive to DTD instead of using the boat because the weather was iffy. It turned out to be a good choice since a storm came up and the boats were stopped for awhile.
- My DH and DD10 weren't fond of the theming and DD10 didn't like the masks in the food court.
- The pool seemed tiny. We decided not to use it because it was overly crowded and there was no available seating. The kids decided they'd rather relax in our room instead.
- The food court was ok but I like more variety. The service was quick. We tried the beignets but they were not very good. We've had the real thing in New Orleans so that may be why we thought that.
- The store had the basics but for more choices, I prefer a bigger store. The gift with purchase was not offered to me even though I was spent enough money for it (a beach towel or a duffle bag depending on amount spent). It's a small thing and I did get a beach towel later but the resort could have had the sale instead.
- The laundry room was neat and large. Since I had to do laundry, at least I had plenty of space. The laundry detergent dispensors did not work (I had brought my own but another person came in and tried to use them).
Overall it was a nice resort, just not our favorite. I may stay there for a solo trip sometime but my family would rather we stay somewhere else next time.
I have only stayed on property twice but this is my favorite resort and we will definately stay here again. While the masks decorating the ceiling in the food court scared my son (age 2 and a half) the food is really good for counter service. My husband tried the ribs and they fell off the bone. I had them the next time we ate at the food court and they were just as yummy. He also tried the pot roast adn said it was one of the best pot roasts he has had. My favorite was the beignets though. Yummy heaven!
We went in May 2009 and the resort was very quiet. We stayed in building 6 which I had requested. I did not want to be right near the pool knowing it could betoo noisy. It was still a very short walk over to the pool and main building. We had a courtyard view overlooking a fountain. (There was even a hidden mickey in the fountain formed by the water!) I may spring for a river view next time. We all loved the pool and it was rarely crowded when we wnet in the evenings after dinner.
Staff was very friendly and mousekeeping kept our room nice and clean. There were a couple towel animals and rearranging of my DS's stuffed animals. The room showed a littel wear but everything was clean and worked fine. Paid for internet one day and that worked well also. Also was given extra towels and toiletries when I asked for them. The first day when we got to the room i called mousekeeping to get bedrails for 1 bed for my son. They brought them up and set them up on the bed within 30 minutes of my call.
Overall very happy with this resort.
