Make a Wish Trip September 17-23, 2007 - Page 3 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I am so happy for your family. This is going to be such a magical experience. Lots of coming your way for your DD's good health! I can't wait to hear all about your experiences.
Bill, your last post was wonderful. I am truly grateful as well for the anticipation I see in my daughter as we talk about our MaW trip, she just came home from the hospital today, and she is such a trooper, but sometimes it's just hard.
She has such a great team at OHSU taking care of her, and they do everything they can to make her stays fun and not a *punishment* for getting sick. The IV nurses putting in her PICC IV line ran the ultrasound around her arm looking for the vein that was saying "pick me, pick ME, I want the PICC line", making her giggly. The respiratory therapist wadded up a paper towel and put it in her nebulizer tube so she could blow it out like a spitwad and do her therapy that way. (making her hysterically giggly) But it still stinks that my baby came home with an IV in her arm and meds to last for two weeks. Sometimes having a *happy place* to go to is another lifeline, something that helps you keep a smile on your face and a strong will for your children to keep fighting.
Thank you for expressing what so many of us feel and cannot find words to express.

How beautiful, I am sitting here crying! That was beautifully said and very inspirational. God Bless you, your wife, daughter and your family. I hope you all have a truely magical trip.
I will look into the gtkw and spread the word to support the foundation.
Again, thank you for sharing, and God Bless
Welcome Bill! You have a beautiful way with words and I am sitting here with tears in my eyes, praying for your darling princess and all of your family. Have a woderful and magical trip.
What a beautiful and heart-warming story! What a darling daughter you have - and how lucky she is to have a dad like you! (And your whole family, for that matter.)
We'll be at WDW the same time as your family and I hope we'll catch a glimpse of each other. If I see a pretty little Princess smiling from ear-to-ear because her wish has been granted, I'll know it's you all!!
You will have a great trip. We stayed at Give kids the World in 1996(my older son had AML & a bone marrow transplant..my younger son was a match) They are wonderful people there. They have things for the kids to do there & try to help you as much as they can. God Bless & have a magical time!!

We have 19 Days left ! It is hard to believe that the trip is approaching so rapidly, although it must seem to the kids like time is going VERY slowly . We have done most of the planning that will need to be done. We will have to start getting everything together Labor Day Weekend. That sounds kind of early, but I work 10 1/2 hours shifts plus an hours RT commute and will be gone to my niece's wedding the next weekend. We will have the Friday and Saturday before we leave home to pack. The day before we leave, we will drive to my inlaws to spend the night. They will drive us to the airport EARLY the day of our departure.
The next event we have is a "Send Off Party" with Make a Wish . My DD chose Chuck e Cheese for that dinner. It is in Spokane, about an hour away. Chuck e Cheese has really poor quality pizza, but lots of arcade games and such for kids. The host is an animatronic (poor quality) mouse. Several other such figures perform on a little stage. It is definitely a kid-friendly place.
At the party we will get our airline tickets and funds for the trip. The date has not been set yet.
Last night, my DD and I watched the travel channel show on Sea World before bed. She got into it a lot more this time that she has so far. She asked me to look up on the internet to see if she was tall enough for Journey to Atlantis. She is by an inch . She was also very interested in the Arctic ride.
Yesterday her grinchy friend told her that all the characters she will meet at Disney World are not real, but are just people dressed up. She is pretty cynical for a 7-year old, but I think there are some sour grapes going on as well . It is hard to know how to approach this. We want the magic to work for her, especially related to Cinderella. My DD is pretty sure that Minnie, Mickey et al, must be people in costumes, but the actors like the Princesses and Peter Pan seem real to her.
Sounds like you have a busy couple of weeks, with a lot of stuff packed in! Glad your daughter is starting to get into it more. I wouldn't worry to much about what her friend is telling her. I am sure once she gets there the magic will take hold and that will be the end of that! Won't be much longer now
