Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

We ended up taking 125-150 everyday and even a couple of movies on the camera. We just downloaded them each night onto the laptop and I was able to see if there were certain pics I wanted that didn't come out and try to retake them later.

My average has been climbing steadily since I went digital in 2003; I'm now averaging 120-150 pics per day at WDW.

I take my laptop with me and download my pics from my memory cards every night. Every couple of nights I will also burn a CD backup (if I remember, which is not all that often!)

kbken brings up an excellent point - make sure you carry enough batteries to last about 200 pics, and take your chargers to recharge your batteries each night. I never wait till the batteries are dead; I recharge the used ones every night so that all the batteries I carry are fully-charged.

One tip I can give you is that if your camera has a viewfinder, turn off the LCD screen. LCD screens are some of the biggest drains on a cameras batteries, and if you turn them off, you can stretch the battery charge more than you would believe.

Billions and billions... well, easily two-three thousand per week between Jennifer and I. When you shoot that many, you don't have the time during the trip to go through them and delete the bad ones, and if you had the time, you'd have to carry an extra set of batteries each day just to do it.

Well, there have been times when I've had to delete some because we'd filled all our memory cards and it wasn't a good time to head to one of the photo shops for a new card (we'd rather buy an additional card than pay for a CD that can only be used once - if we filled 'em all this time, we'll probably fill 'em all again). Try deleting photos in the middle of Kilmanjaro Safaris... "OK, I don't need any shots of the red clay pit or the flamingos, so I've got a few minutes... :::delete::: :::bounce::: :::jounce::: :::delete::: :::sway::: :::bounce::: :::delete::: bounce::: ouch! :::delete:::"

I probably take 100 +/- a day at WDW. I always take my laptop so I can download them every day.

I have always wanted a laptop.......
Maybe now is a good time to get one ;-)
Thanks for all of the responses.
I now have 2 - 2 GB memory cards, as well as my son and daughter's cards/cameras.
Maybe if I see a good deal before we leave (in 8 days!!) I will get another.
THANK YOU!

If your camera takes SD cards, you can get a great deal at Meritline on a 1gb Kingston MicroSD card with an adapter to use it in a regular SD slot, $10.95 with free standard shipping. This allows you to use the card both in your digital camera and in your cell phone or MP3 player that has a MicroSD slot. I bought 3 of them myself; Kingston is a great brand and the deal is too good to pass up.

Kingston 1GB Micro SD Card with SD Card Adapter, Model SDC/1GB, FREE STANDARD SHiPPING

We took close to 2000 between us on our recent honeymoon in Alaska. No amount of pix can do Alaska justice though. Truly God's country

I just got back from my first trip to WDW. We were there 8 days (6 full days in the parks) and I ended up with close to 900 pics. Add those to the 200 my fiancee took and the 120 on the photopass (we are getting the CD since it has all the pics they shot of our engagement at Cinderella's Royal Table) and we ended up with just over 1200. There were also 10 or so short videos on I shot.

This is with me not taking a pic of everything I walked by, I love digital cameras.

I used a laptop to dump the days pics.

Talking in AWE!!!!

I tend to only take about 100 a day...which seems quite a bit to me...but definitely not comparable with others on this post.

Dang...I thought I was taking a lot...turns out that I mustn't be...the Evil Queen takes about double that...but definitely not 5000 photos...that would be pressing the button like the whole day....5000 photos over 6 days...that 2 a minute....nope...I like photos...but I also think its about being with my loved ones and actually enjoying myself.

We tried to podcast when we went in February...but the toddler wouldn't put up with it at all...and I found that it cut in to my fun time...not that I won't try it when he's a little older...and not having to be carried or pushed every where...

darn 2 a minute...that just seems almost like your finger would get sore....my right leg is usually tormented by the drive down there...and the drive back...I can't imagine having a sore right pointer finger...from the constant clicking...

I must say...I am in AWE!!!

Well...we are up there in the thousands catagory. But, I freely admit I take 10 to get 2 good ones...on purpose. I hate missing pictures and with digital I feel like I can just delete the ones I don't like - not that I ever do! LOL

My best advice is to remember if you take a hge memory card with you and on picture number 1,583 something bad happens...they are all gone. If you can buy new and wait to try and have to card checked to see if they can recover your info you might get them back.

This is why I download whenever I get the change to my laptop. We have the advantage of having one...and the 5 minutes is takes to read the card is so worth it to me to keep my memories safe. I need to sit for a few minutes anyway right??

Right now we have a 512, a 1G and a 2G. I like the 2G best because it is high speed and very fast in my camera...but I try and remind myself to empty a lot!

Snap away!
