As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I was 31, and I took my 2 boys 2 and 13, and my mother too all for their first time as well. It was just overwhelming for all of us. We stayed at POP, and we all fell in love with it. We visited a few of the other resorts, and we went to all the parks except the water parks and DD. This year we are going in August and we are again staying at POP. We are planning on going to the water parks and DD.
I cant wait to see the Castle, and eat at Crystal Palace, and Sci Fi, and go on all the rides. I cant wait to see my kids faces when we watch the parades and the fireworks. I also look forward to planning our next trip.

I was 6 and when my parents took my sister and I. It was 1987 and we stayed at the Poly. I remember carrying a Minnie Mouse doll with me EVERYWHERE we went..even days it rained and I had a poncho on. I also threw a fit at the dinner show at the Poly and refused to eat any of the food and embarassed DS (who was older and way too cool to be seen with me) while DM went up and did the hula. I can also recall running around Epcot and loving WS.
It was in the mid 70s. I was in college, and went with a friend and her sister - the first true Disney fanatics I would ever meet. We went for the day (we had a place in Daytona Beach that we were vacationing at). They told me that EVERYONE wears mouse ears at the park. They brought their ears from home. The first thing we did when we got into the MK was go to a shop that sold ears so I could get a pair. It took me a few hours to realize that we were the ONLY people wearing ears ! The two of them had been to DW several times, and so it didn't matter that I had not planned anything - they knew just what to do. BTW, years later, after she married, my friend and her DH moved to Kissimee so her DH could get work for Disney.

I was such a deprived child...always wanted to go to WDW, had a mom who went when she was a kid....but me... :
So, I took matters into my own hands and planned our honeymoon around WDW. It was in Nov. 2003 and I was 23 years old. My DH had been twice before, once only to Epcot with his chorus at school, and once with his family when he was like 7 or 8. He warned me that I really needed to plan things out, meals, parks, times, etc. I thought he was going a little overboard.... boy was I wrong. Once I got into the planning I couldn't stop, and we have learned a little more each trip. I remember feeling like I had to do EVERYTHING b/c I had 23 years to make up for, but now I see that we can take our time and enjoy things b/c I know we'll be back. We started out going once a year for our anniversary, now we've tacked on another annual trip for my birthday. It works out perfectly too because my birthday is in July and our anniversary is the end of Nov. so we go then or the very beginning Dec. That way we have about 6 months between each trip
I was 12 years old - my parents took our family to WDW in December 1971 - two months after it had opened! The bug hit me - hit me hard! I fell in love with WDW from the get go! My parents took us to Florida over Christmas break (my father was an elementary school principal) to see my grandparents who wintered in Bradenton Florida. They introduced me to the beach and my parents introduced me to Disney. I fell in love with both and my desire to live in Florida has never diminished!
My next trip was not until my honeymoon in 1978 - we went to the MK and River Country! My husband didn't get bit by the bug, as I had hoped! So it took me a long time to get back! My dh has finally given up on trying NOT to like WDW!
He really enjoys our time there whenever he goes with me. (which is once a year!) I am just so grateful that he allows me to go as often as I can!
It was December of 1971, and my parents, who were campers took us to FW for the first time. I was nine years old and the world at that time was the MK, CR, Poly and the just opened FW. My dad fell in love with FW and we made many trips there throughtout my childhood.
To this day I credit my love of WDW to two men. Walt Disney for creating it and my father for taking me back to it over and over again.
LOL.. I was 4, it was about 80 + nasty humidity. I got a vicious fever, but after a few 'recovery' hours my parents were all set to give it another try. And I met my first celebrity! Saying "Daddy, can I kiss Mickey?" and I did! Mickey gave me a hug and a kiss right outside the castle just like in the commercials I had seen. Dumbo was my favorite ride, pushing the button, going up, and down. The Snow White ride scared the beejeezies out of me but after we got off, Snow White herself was there to give me a hug and tell me how sorry she was that I got that scared. I remember the magic of Small World and on the 4th go around turning to my father and saying "Daddy, this is our special place." And every time I've gone back since, I make it a point to ride small world and think of him.
And I remember all the "road apples" LOL! Do they still have those horses walking around?
It was 1989 and I was 16, and went with my brother (11) and Mum and Dad. I was heavily into the bratpack at the time so going to America was a big thing for me (and all my friends were jealous ) Unfortunately I only remember a few things about that trip - I remember queuing for Captain EO, what the World of Motion looked like from outside, eating some nasty chili in Mexico and my Dad refusing to buy me anything else, I remember the parade at MK and meeting Mickey Mouse. Oh and I also remember visiting MGM, it had only been open a month or two and had only 2 rides - we were finished in about 3 hours. It was the first time I'd seen a mall and I couldn't get over how big everything was. The next time I went back was 2003 and that was when I introduced DH to the wonders of WDW and we've never looked back.
My first trip was in 1976, I was 8years old. We went with my mom and dad, grandmother, and sister 9 and brother 6. My memories are broken but interesting, and I guess the idea of the magic and the age are important to me because My mother, my sister and I took my oldest sone when he was 8, and now 6 years later I am taking all three boys and the younger ones will now be 8 and 6 just like my brother and I.
Memories, like I said they are disjointed. We stayed for 5 days at the poynesian and had 2 adjoining rooms. I remember we argued every night who was going to sleep in which room grandma was in one room and my parents in the other and 3 kids to argue over 2 beds. I remember my brother had the door slam on his foot as we went out to explore the hotel on the first day and it ripped his tonails off and my mother let him wear my new sandals for the vacation and I was not a happy camper and he didn't want to wear girl shoes (not Disney but what I remember). I remember eating at a retaurant that had trees inside with an all you can eat breakfast buffet. I can remember being dropped off at the Mouseketeer club, so my parents could have an adult night out, and we had a blast. I remember watching fireworks on the beach. I remember waiting 2 hours in line at space mountain to get to the front and find out my brother was too small, my sister freaked out when she found out it was a rollercoaster, dad was too heavy to fit in the car, so mom and I road it. I don't know where grandma fits into this experience with space mountain. I remember being on the cruise at night on the lagoon and I don't remember what happened except somehow the boat was not operating correctly and we all needed to put on our life jackets while another boat came and got us and we had to climb off the one and onto the other. My favorite experience at Disney that I loved was we went on Pirate adventure ( I don't remember what it was called). Us kids went on a pontoon boot to look for buried treasure. We had a map, and finally we landed on a sandy beach, followed the map, dug up a treasure in the sand and roasted marshmallows, when we were done we were instructed to load back up on the boat, lay low and we were pretending to be abducted by pirates and then at the last minute jump out from under the seats and surprise our parents. It was a blast and really my favorite memory.
My first trip ever was just 4 years ago, I was 33 years old, experiencing with my DH (who had only been once when he was 11) and my DD (4 at the time) and friends who had been several times before. I remember as we were driving (we rented a car) down the highway and I started seeing all the billboards - I began getting teary eyed - then we went to MK and I met Mickey and gang - and got teary eyed! Then my DD who was obsessed with Cinderella at that time - dressed like Cinderella sat in her stroller behind the castle and informed us that she was going to sit there until Cinderella came out of her castle to meet her - low and behold, 20 minutes later who came out - Cinderella - not only was DD sooooooo excited - but so was I and my friend was able to capture it all on film - and I cry every time I look at that photo - we both had the exact same expression! Then one day during that trip, myself, DH and DD got up early enough to get to MK before it opened and were able to see the park opening celebration and let me tell you - there was no stopping the tears! Of course they were all happy tears! I have become a DVC member (on that first trip!) and have been fortunate enough to visit Disney a total of 10 times since and am in the process of surprising DD for her 8th bday celebration in Disney - where I am sure there will be lots of happy magical tears! Can you tell I am sap!

Lisa Co-Guide to Sharing the Adventure: Disney World Trip Reports
It was December 2005, I was 28, and went with my DH, DD3, DS5, my sis and her DH, and my mom and dad. (My parents gave us the trip for Christmas). They had never been able to bring us when we were kids due to the cost and were really excited to bring us as grown ups, along with their grandchildren! We went the week before Christmas so the parks were not crowded at all and we had a wonderful time. I was like Melissa and thought I had to see everything that first trip, thinking we would probably never go back. We came home exhausted! Plus we hadn't stayed on property. I am so excited to be going back! And I have gotten my DH to agree to go every other year. Maybe he will change his mind once we're down there, and agree to every year!

My first trip to the world was in 1992. My grandfather and my aunt & her family were going down and my gpa decided I should come and paid for it. My mom was a single parent and in no way could afford the trip. I have scattered memories of the trip, and fortunately most involve my grandfather who has since passed away.

Counting down to....
May 2017 - Poly (Grandma's 1st Trip to WDW)
Sept 2017 - DH's bday celebration
Aug 2018 - DCL Family cruise on the Dream
My first trip was to Disneyland in 1979, I was 12 years old. I'm the youngest and my 2 older sisters went a few years prior and that's all they talked about...Disney this and Disney that. It made me really !! It was just not fair...why did they have to talk about it all the time? Well, I finally talked my parents into taking me (no easy accomplishment). My dad borrowed a station wagon from his company and invited my sister and her family. And then my other sister and her friend wanted to go. So, I was able to invite my BF from school and away we went. All in all, there were 9 of us crammed in that station wagon from Portland. OR to Anaheim, CA. We stayed at the Travel Lodge a few blocks away from Disneyland. The thing I remember most was the Main Street Electrical Parade. It was absolutely amazing...the lights, the music, and the characters were just too !! I will never forget that trip.
In 1996, I tried to talk my sister into going to WDW. She said no..."why would I want to go to a knock off of Disneyland?" I said fine and planned a trip with my DH, DS (8), and DD (3). We stayed offsite, I don't even rememeber the name of the hotel. But we fell in with WDW!! I was soon planning another trip and bragging to my sister how amazing it was. The next thing I know, she has taken a trip (without telling me!!), and she's back saying "OMG, it just as good if not better than Disneyland." Duh, what have I been saying??!! Anyway, we both take yearly (sometimes 2 and 3) trips a year to both Disneyland and WDW. And of course, we always stay at a Disney hotel to take advantage of all the magic.
I went to DLP in March of this year, and I bet you will never guess where my sister is going in August? Yes, DLP! She is such a copycat. What she doesn’t know is that we are going to WDW in August and staying at WL with free dining. I guess, I will just have to tell her when she gets back.
my first trip was july 2006. i was 21 at the time (i'm only 22 now... ) my best friend and i got a great deal on airfare and we just decided to go. it was a great time, and just last month i took my sister for her first time! i had more fun with my sister though.
