As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Wow, can you imagine if that was the view from your backyard? The mansion looks beautiful. It really is a bummer about Mystic Pizza, though!

Great report Amy! The storm doesn't sound fun and am curious about "the" bridge. I don't like the bridges that go up, up, up and then down, down, down. It sounds like you all are having a grand time. Love the picture of the mansion. Pretty snazzy digs!

Great report so far. That was some storm Friday wasn't it. We kept watching the sky get darker and darker and then all of a sudden the skies just opened up. At least I was still at work and driving around in it.

Ooh! It's been a long time, but I forgot about the fudge there! I seem to remember some chocolate chip cookies there, too! Forget the historical significance, I travel for the food!
As for the bridges, Dad still won't let me live down the trip we took to Mystic when I was 10. I was TERRIFIED of the drawbridge there! The fact that the first time I encountered it we were walking across when the bells and lights went off didn't help! I was terribly afraid of loud noises when I was little. I don't know if that was the same bridge that you don't like, but I can relate, as I'm STILL not overly fond of drawbridges!
Great TR, so far; can't wait to read more!

Re: Crystal and Amy\'s Misadventures Report--Not That Bridge, Wicked Good, and Is that Canada eh?
Ok sorry for the Delay but where were we?? Oh yeah we were at the Breakers and I was getting to the Awful Awful’s.
After finishing a tour of the outside of the breakers including the Kid’s play house which is the size of some people’s real houses but it was made just for the kids to play in I forgot to take photo’s of the outside of it
So once we finished we headed back to the car amazed at the size and grander of the mansion we just saw! We had noticed a shopping center on our way to the mansion and I saw they had a Newport Creamery so we headed back over there for lunch. We made are way in and got our ticket that we have to remember to get validated or you pay for parking.
We headed in and waited a few minutes as it was right during the lunch rush and found 3 seats at the counter. I had the quesadillas, Crystal and Doug I think had burgers and sandwiches. But it being so warm today I avoided my favorite drink but Crystal tried it. It’s the awful awful and its basically a lighter version of a milkshake. We ate lunch the food was ok I prefer Friendly’s quesadillas over theirs but it wasn’t horrible.
We paid the bill while Crystal ran next door to CVS to try and find some Easy Cheese we had forgotten to bring it with us and felt like bad little Passporters for not having it with us. Doug and I left and then did an uh oh the parking ticket so Doug ran back in and had the ticket validated . Whew!
We decided we would tour the Elms as our second Mansion and so we remembered passing it on our way to the breakers so out we went and found it and parked the car. This mansion was big but it wasn’t as impressive as breakers as its just there no lead up a long path or anything. Plus not being on the water it seemed less grand to me. But still nicer then my house I’d take it in a second if I could!
This tour was an audio listening device and self guided so we turned our tickets in and got our headset and started on the tour. It was very nice to be able to take our time and not be rushed. Well here is where I ran into trouble Now I have used this kind of machine before on other tours but the elms had the stops numbered along with other recordings about different things in the room. You entered the number of the thing you wanted to hear about and it played. Well I entered the wrong number and couldn’t get back to where I was on the tour. I had to start at the beginning all over again at least 3 times.
It was extremely hot today and there was a nice big fan at the top of the stairs to the 2nd floor and I stood for at least 10 minutes in front of it just so I could cool down enough to continue. I lost Crystal and Doug but caught back up eventually. This one mansion though inside was very nice and very well organized. Everything seemed to flow. I was amazed because the Husband’s room was very much smaller then the wife’s room. Found out that is because he would be up only on weekends and she was there for the whole time.
We ended in the kitchen and tour operators took the audio machines and we headed out and grabbed a soda and walked the grounds to the car. It was very nicely maintained and I’m glad I got to see the two showed me the differences in taste and décor.
It was about 4:15 or so and we had about 40 minutes to our Dinner stop and so as we drove I called Dyan (Dyankj130) to let her know we were done early and would be at Gregg’s for dinner closer to 5:15 or so. She was ok with that and we laughed as we talked about us forgetting Easy Cheese. Not to worry Dyan would get some on her way so we could at least have it for dinner
We found Gregg’s Pretty easily (See Joan I’m getting better with directions) parked the car and waited out front for Dyan to show up. We waited maybe 10 minutes and there was hop along Cassidy with her black boot for her Broken toe! Easy Cheese and All!!!
We said our hellos and headed inside we were seated right away and Doug and Crystal sat on one side while Dyan and I tolerated each other on the other side The things I do for PassPorter just kidding Dyan! Dyan is really Cool so it wasn’t a bad thing!
Doug had the turkey dinner, Crystal had a wrap, Dyan had a sandwich and I had spaghetti and sauce. The food was yummy as always and I was saving room for Dessert! We had a great time talking during dinner and the easy cheese made the rounds (pictures to follow) and then the Dessert came and my that chocolate cake I had was good.
After Dinner we headed outside chatting by Crystal’s car and took group photo’s and had a good laugh with the easy cheese. We finally said our goodbye’s put the top down and drove back to CT. We made it almost home and then the rain started. We pulled over put the top back up and headed to the Casino. I said goodbye until Sunday and Crystal and Doug enjoyed the Casino.
Here are some pictures from the meet up with Dyan!
