As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Remember is a Disneyland fan's dream come true! I'd be one of those people behind you reciting right along with the whole thing. Jack actually acts part of it out. We are complete nerds, but we just it! I love how it's hot as he** in that last part of Mr. Toad! Keep it coming!

Re: Two go wild and go west! - THREAD 5 - UPDATED 6/22!
Monday 24 April – part one: are we finally going to get on Monsters Inc?
Any idea I had of getting into Disneyland for early opening went out of the window when I woke up. It was 7.45 and the latest I had slept in all vacation. Instead by the time we were both up and ready to go, we decided to head for the California Adventure to try and ride Monsters Inc.
First we stopped off at the lounge for a quick snack to keep us going until we got to Goofy’s Kitchen at 11.00 and a cup of tea and then it was off, except it wasn’t, as I left my long sleeved top up there, so Mark went back to get it as soon as we realised and I went to get in line for park opening. When I got there, you couldn’t see where the line for the California Adventure and the line for Disneyland ended, they both merged into one. At that point, I thought that it would be no quieter than the day before.
They let us through the gates at about 9.30 and we were second or third in line for the rope drop for the Hollywood area, so I thought we had a good chance of getting on to Monsters Inc. Sure enough, when the rope went down, we had a staged walk through led by Cast Members and we were in the first 10 people through Monsters Inc. We think we got the fourth car of the day.
This is an excellent ride, very well themed, taking you through Mike and Sulley’s world and representing the movie very well. The scene with the doors is quite impressive. It looks like you’re in a massive cavern and that it just goes on forever. A really cool part is as you get off the ride. The character at the exit (I can’t for the life of me remember her name ) actually talks to you, a bit like Crush does. At first, we didn’t realise that, but it’s a really nice touch. I’m glad we got to do this ride and without a stupidly long wait either. It’s good, but not worth an hour or more wait.
The entrance to the ride
The door scene
On the way out
Having conquered that within minutes, I decided that we’d try and see if we could get on one of the other rides that we had missed yesterday due to the long waits, the Sun Wheel. Sure enough, that was a walk on too. We went for a stationary car, having seen how the other ones swing around. It’s a great ride, but it’s such a shame that they enclose it with wire mesh. It makes it very hard t get any photos and you feel as if you’re locked in. Glass in these cars would be so much better. Despite that, I did still manage to get some good photos.
We walked round and I spotted the Jumpin’ Jellyfish. Mark asked if I wanted to go on it and I had read that it was suitable for kids, so how bad could it be? Well I asked that very question of the Cast Member there and he told me that it was very tame, so I decided to give it a go, but I couldn’t talk Mark into it, so he took photos while I enjoyed it. It was great fun, just a little adrenalin rush, just enough to make my stomach fall away as we went up and down. I don’t think I’ll try Tower of Terror on this trip…
The one ride I did want to go on in Paradise Pier were the Golden Zephyrs and that was my next stop. This was fun, but boy it does get windy up there. If you have a hat, then hold on to it. I had my hand on mine and I’m glad I did, as I nearly lost it and as it was my Beach Club one, I wouldn’t have been happy if that had happened.
Next: a very interesting conversation with Chip and Dale!

Greatp update! My cousins and I went on a ride just like the Jumpin' Jellyfish att Dutch Wonderland in Lancaster when we were younger. It was a lot of fun, but very tame like you said. More please!

Re: Two go wild and go west! - THREAD 5 - UPDATED 6/22!
I'm glad you were some of the first in line for Monster's Inc. We waited almost an hour for that ride and decided that we would never do that again. We really liked the ride but the hour wait wasn't worth it.
I have yet to go on the Sun Wheel, it usually has a very long wait also. Your pictures are wonderful.

Re: Two go wild and go west! - THREAD 5 - UPDATED 6/22!
Monday 24 April – part two: a very interesting conversation with Chip and Dale!
By now, it was 10.45 and we weren’t far off our 11.00 Priority Seating at Goofy’s Kitchen, so we headed that way via our room, as someone didn’t have their autograph book with them! Men!
Now let me say here that I believe there is a lot that Disneyland can learn from Disney World and vice versa. One of the things that Disney World can learn is to take the payment for character meals up front when people get there. Drinks and gratuity are included, so you know exactly what you’re paying and you are asked for the money as soon as you arrive, meaning when you’re done with your meal, that’s it, you’re done and off you go.
As soon as we had paid, we went to see Pluto and had a fun time with him,. That really set the tone for the whole meal.
We were taken to our table and I saw Donald Duck up by the buffet. Mark went to get some food and while he was gone, I noticed that Donald was there on his own, so I went to see him. You can’t leave Donald there alone. Just as I got his autograph and was wondering how to get my photo taken with him, Mark showed up. How about that for timing? He must’ve known that I needed his help!
After that, I headed for the buffet and my, the food was good here. It was a brunch, so I had some fruit and salad items first, then went for the hot items and they were excellent. The vegetables, salmon and sweetcorn tamarines were all winners for me and the desserts were much better than in Orlando. Usually there I leave enough room for them and I’m disappointed with them, but here I really enjoyed the pear cobbler and the rice krispie cakes.
Now the characters, there’s a story. We waited and we waited… and we waited and then we waited a bit more to see them all. First we saw Dale and when he came, he saw that I was writing my trip report at the table (bad habit I know! ) and he saw the shorthand and then something happened that I’ve never seen before. We had paper on our table and Dale started to write on it to communicate with us. He asked me what language I was writing in and what it said and then told me that it was amazing. How great to be able to have a conversation with a chipmunk – now that’s what I call really
In between our “conversation”, we even managed to get some photos with Dale!
We saw Max about half an hour later, but after an hour sitting there, those were the only two characters we had seen.
We were still waiting to see Goofy, Chip and Aladdin and we weren’t happy campers, so we kept complaining to any server we saw. I had heard from other trip reports that this was a problem here, so we made them aware of that and said it was something that they needed to address. Eventually the character handler came to see us and checked our book to see who was missing and he spotted Dale’s writing on the table. I did think he might get into trouble for that, but the guy seemed fine with it. He then set about getting the other characters across to see us. He got us Aladdin and Goofy in quick succession:
Next: my brother’s told me all about you!

Re: Two go wild and go west! - THREAD 5 - UPDATED 6/22!
Sounds like a good meal, but I'm sure my kids and DH would have lost their patience with such a long wait for the characters! Hopefully they'll do something to address that problem.
Looking forward to more!
