What is it about those parades that bring out the absolute WORST in people? Everyone is all pixie dust and Mickey happy, but come parade time, watch out. Last trip, every, and I mean every, time I staked out our position EARLY for the parades, someone would inevitably come and stand right in front of us at the last minute before the parade starts. I wouldn't mind so much usually, but this last trip was my 3 yr.old daughter's first-she loved the parades most of all! I hate to pinpoint, but the Dad's with their camcorders were the worst offenders! I mean C'mon! Always, right in front of my Daughter, standing with their big butts directly in her face. NO "excuse me, do you mind if I stand right here where you have been to cut off yourview?" There was always a "If I don't look you in the eye, maybe You won't notice what a jerk I am" arrogant mentality.

Good for you, Matt! Let's hope that Elijah continues to be blessed with angels.

OK, this reminded me of our scary guest story.

Several years ago my family was visiting AK and we were with the kids in the Boneyard play area. Shortly after entering, a little girl of about 3-4 years old starts to hang around and try to play with our kids. We realize after a bit that there doesn't seem to be a parent with her, so we ask where her parents are. She said her Dad dropped her off in the playyard so he could do ride a ride!!!! [img]/ubb/images/graemlins/shocked.gif[/img] I immediately went and told a CM in the area, who seemed concerned, but didn't really know what to do. She started talking to the little girl, so we continued watching our kids play....while still waiting to see what would happen. About 15 minutes later (she's been in there for more than 30 minutes or more) her Dad appears to pick her up. The CM is obviously telling him something, but he looks entirely unconcerned! We could not believe anyone would leave a cute little girl to fend for herself for any period of time. It still shocks me to this day to think about it.

Glad you were around Matt. I'm not surprised at the parenting....seems like more and more people just let their children go and expect others to watch out for them.

I guess parents like Elijah's would consider me "overprotective", but I don't let DD out of my sight for a second. All it takes is one moment for someone to snatch her up and walk away and she would be gone. How can some of these parents out there not be concerned for their children's safety?? I totally agree with you. When the boys were small and in their strollers, people use to push their kids in front of the stroller to sit down to watch the parade. Needless to say, DH and I would have to pick up the kids so they could see. It still happens. We were waiting for the night time parade to start at MVMCP in December and the boys sat down on the curb. Not two minutes later, a family of 6 pulled out their blanket and almost pushed the boys off the curb. They were not happy and neither was I. It seems like no matter how much room there is around you, people decide to sit in front of you.

I will be polite but I could tell these people were indifferent to the entire world not just at Disney. They are just another group who thinks they are entitled to everything and that basic rules don't apply to him. Oh and that raising your child is obviously optional.

Unbelievable! I'll never understand how a parent can be so stupid. Why have that many children when you aren't capable of raising them?! Glad you were there to watch out for him.

How sad. Poor Elijah. I am so glad that you were there to protect him.

We lost our daughter in Epcot. She was 6. It happened in a second. She was right there with me...then she wasn't. My poor DH took off running (in the wrong direction I might add) I went to a CM. They had her in a matter of minutes...then sent security to stop the crazy man running through the park. My DH was terrified that she had been snatched by someone... NEITHER one of them has fully recovered. My daughter wants one of the leash things for our trip this year.

I can only imagine how frightening life must be for Elijah...he could go missing and nobody would even care. How does a kid cope with THAT???
