10 go to Saratoga Springs October 2016 - Page 3 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

My TR from my most recent trip is now underway. Includes: Universal Studios Florida, Disney World and Sea World Orlando Trifecta TR -Updated December 10th! TR is now COMPLETED!
Got up bright and early for our breakfast at The Crystal Palace at Magic Kingdom. This will be our first meal here as we have never been on previous holidays.
John, boys and I walked straight onto Splash Mountain as it was early and park quiet. I went on twice and the boys three times. I didn't want to be too wet for our breakfast!
Whilst I was waiting for John and the boys, I met my friend Jodie who was visiting Disney for the first time with her family. We were all staying at Saratoga Springs but we only saw each other a couple of times, it was nice to catch up with her.
We then went over to Crystal Palace for our breakfast. We all had a lovely time and loved the great food. Wonderful choice of lovely breakfast items. We ate lots, so yummy!
We loved meeting Winnie the Pooh, Piglet, Eeyore and Tigger. Got some great photos and videos.
Next was our fast pass for Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, was really looking forward to this as it was just being built when we were here in 2013.
Poor Mum went on the ride with me and hated it. Mum doesn't really like fast rides and the photos showed it too. I was laughing but Mum didn't find it funny.
We then went on Prince Charming Regal Carrousel, which kids enjoyed. My horse was so high, I thought I'd need a ladder to get on and off the thing!
Mum, Dad, Joanne, Chris and Katie then went to meet some princesses which they enjoyed and got some lovely photos.
John, Ross, Owen, Cameron and myself then took the boys to go on the teacups.
We watched them as I've never ridden this one, not too keen on spinning! Ha ha
Dumbo was next and I enjoyed this, so did kids.
Goofy's barnstormer ride was next up and it was good. Big queue, quick ride!
We then walked over to Tomorrowland and went on Space Mountain. It was good too, although my head felt it was going to fall off during it!
When we left Space Mountain we met Owen's Primary 3 teacher, Mrs Mitchell and her family. It was funny seeing her there and we spoke for a few minutes.
Monsters, Inc. Laugh Floor was next on our agenda and it was really funny. We met Chris in the queue for this. I love seeing people's reactions when they see themselves on the big screen. John got picked this time which was funny.
We then met back up with everyone else and went on the Jungle Cruise. It was good as always.
Haunted Mansion was next and then I had a look around the Christmas shop. I always love buying new tree decorations each year.
On way out of the park, I got a lovely pink Mickey Mouse T shirt.
All the parks were closing at 5 today as Hurricane Matthew was on its way but we got back to our hotel at 4.
They was a curfew planned in preparation for the hurricane and it seemed like every person in the resort was at the Artists Palette! You had to wait over 2 hours just to get a sandwich!
We all went to Mum and Dad's room for sandwiches and then went back to watch TV in the evening.
Luckily the Hurricane missed Orlando and went up the coast instead and didn't come inland as predicted. There was loud winds during night and some damage to trees etc by morning but weather was ok with some wind and rain during the day of Friday 7th October.
The hotel made the arcade free all day during the curfew and the kids enjoyed this. They even met Chip and Dale!
Pluto was also there
My friend Jodie met him too
The Artists Palette opened with a limited menu at lunchtime so John and I had cheeseburger flatbreads and the boys had chicken nuggets.
Mostly the day was spent relaxing, watching TV and having some wine and beer which was nice.
In the evening John and I went back to Artists Palette and had some chicken nuggets, Ross had macaroni cheese and Owen had a ham and cheese sandwich.
Looked like quite an active and action packed day in the MK! You had so much fun at the CP with so much character interaction. Too bad mom didn't enjoy 7SMT

My TR from my most recent trip is now underway. Includes: Universal Studios Florida, Disney World and Sea World Orlando Trifecta TR -Updated December 10th! TR is now COMPLETED!
John, myself and boys went to Typhoon Lagoon today. It was a beautiful day, lovely and hot. Mum and Dad had a restful day and went to Disney Springs and Joanne, Chris and kids went to the Magic Kingdom.
We arrived at 10am and got good sun beds near the wave pool. Boys loved all the rides. I went on a few too! The family raft one is good. I like the wave pool the best but poor Owen cut his arm and leg when the wave knocked him over. He got plasters at the first aid room. We were 2nd on the list of injured, bet they have several each day.
It was soon time for lunch and we went to Leaning Palms.
John and I had the island burger with pulled pork and pineapple. Fries and a cookie also.
Ross had a hotdog and Owen had a cheese pizza with a fruit cup too.
It was very nice.
John and the boys stayed on in the afternoon but I left at 3.20 as I was going to Boatwrights at Port Orleans Riverside for our evening meal with the rest of the family.
John and boys went to the Magic Kingdom and went to the Liberty Tree Tavern for their meal.
They had
Dinner
Appetizers
Declaration Salad
Tossed Mixed Greens with House-made Dressing
Entrées
Patriot's Platter
Roasted Turkey Breast, Sliced Prime Rib, and Carved Pork Roast with Mashed Potatoes, Seasonal Vegetables, Herb Stuffing, and House-made Mac and Cheese
Desserts
Johnny's Appleseed's Bread Pudding
Warmed Bread Pudding served with an Apple Compote, and topped with a Vanilla Crème Anglaise
This sounds lovely and I'll have to go the next time we go.
We had a lovely boat ride to Riverside via Disney Springs.
Our meal at Boatwrights was lovely.
We had the very tasty cornbread to start
then
I had
General Fulton's Prime Rib
Carefully Seasoned with a hint of Coffee and Slow-roasted served with Mashed Potatoes, Seasonal Vegetables, and Red Wine Demi-glace
$34.00
Joanne and Dad
The Big Easy
10-oz Grilled New York Strip with Peppercorn Cream served with Crawfish Mac and Cheese
$35.00
Mum
Cajun Bayou Catfish
Sustainable Andouille-crusted US Catfish with Louisiana Rice, Cayenne-Butter Sauce, and Chive Aïoli
$22.00
Chris
Turbodog Barbecued Ribs
Barbecued Ribs with Cajun Steak Fries and House-made Coleslaw
$24.99
We also had some nice desserts including
Bourbon Street Pecan Pie
a traditional Southern favorite
$7.00
Crème Brûlée
with Seasonal Berries
$7.00
Sorbet
Seasonal Sorbet served with fresh Fruit
$6.00
We then all got the bus to the Magic Kingdom and everyone else got a bus back to Saratoga Springs and I went to meet John and the boys at Space Mountain.
Love these photos of John, Ross and Owen
We then went on Splash Mountain which was good in the dark.
For the very last time we saw the Main Street Electrical Parade, as its last day was the next day.
We all enjoyed it. We then watched Wishes and got the bus home, standing room only!
We got back at 11pm.
