Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Yes, it was very beautiful! She made a lovely bride!

Day 3....

Day 3 dawned bright, sunny and cool. We got up early and headed over to church. The church is St. James, and like the rest of Cazenovia, it is well kept and beautifully landscaped:

We walked over, and I think it was uphill in both directions! Or maybe I hadn't had enough coffee yet!

After church, we headed down to Emma's Cafe, a local place. Emma's is an old-fashioned diner, with booths and tables and a counter. The staff is friendly, the food good.

Emma's:

The menu:

A few opinions:

I had a veggie frittata, Steve had French toast, scrambled eggs and an English muffin. We both had coffee and juice, too. We started to talk to the chef and the waitress. Emma's is family run, the chef is part owner and the waitress was also related. The chef had spent 15 years in the Lansdale area of PA, so he was familiar with Philadelphia and the Poconos. He told us that he had lived down there with his ex-wife, but when they got divorced, he moved back home (he was originally from this area) and never looked back. We told him how much we liked the area and that we were considering retiring here. He told us it was a great place to live, we would not regret the move. Hmmm....

After breakfast, we headed out for a ride. The plan was to drive up Route 20, back toward the antique show area, and stop at all the garage sales we saw along the way! This is a big garage/yard sale week for the local people, since so many of us tourists are up there!

Ready for a ride:

We stopped at a few sales. We bought a new lamp for Steve's dresser, a few DVD's, an amp for our stereo, a bar stool for Steve's keyboards, some extension cords (I lost about 10 of ours when my DS moved out! ) and I think that was it! It was fun to poke around, though. On the journey, I took some pictures of the beautiful NYS scenery:

We drove about 30 miles, and then turned around and came back again! We were getting a little hungry, so we decided to head back towards the Brae Loch and think about lunch!

Next....lunch, and a walk to Cazenovia Lake!

Day 3, part 2...

We arrived back in Cazenovia, and decided to try Nirchi's Grill, Italian cuisine, pizza, pasta. Cazenovia, NY . Nirchi's is in a little row of stores right across from where the farmer's market was. Up until last year, it was the Cazenovia Grill, which was run as a local co-op type of restaurant. They served sandwiches, salads, and such. It was attached to the Common Grounds Coffee Shop, which is run by the students of Cazenovia College. The grill was also student run, but it was recently bought out and turned into an Italian restaurant.
We didn't realize all this, and tried to enter the old way, through the coffee shop. The archway between the two stores was no longer there! So we went out and tried again, realizing that the Grill now had it's own entrance. We were seated quickly, and I took a few shots of the interior:

Neat light fixture:

I had a grilled chicken salad and an iced tea. Steve had veal parm and spaghetti, and lemonade.

After lunch, I went into the Cazenovia Artisans co-op.

It's a collection of the work of local artisans. They had some beautiful pieces, including a portrait in glass of the Twin Towers that was absolutely stunning. It was a bit out of my price range, though, but I bought a hand painted bowl of with a portrait of Cazenovia Lake, and a photo of the Brae Loch Inn.

Purchases in hand, I headed back to the car where Steve was waiting, and we headed back to the Inn.

Of course, he wanted to nap , but my tooth, mouth and throat were still pretty sore and laying down was very painful. (So strange...as long as I was sitting or standing, it was fine and not painful at all, just uncomfortable from the swollen gland. But lay flat and Wham! Pain!) I tried to nap, but gave up after awhile. I grabbed my camera, and headed out. He snoozed, and I walked! This time, I headed over to Cazenovia Lake for another photo op!

The lake is a good size, with a small beach and dock on the east side. There are alot of houses along the banks, including the one directly across from the Brae Loch, which belongs to the owners, Jim and Valerie Barr, and has been used as a bed and breakfast when the Brae Loch is full! There is a little fountain as well as a few streams that feed it. It is really beautiful and peaceful!

I came back from my walk and headed over to the Common Grounds Coffee Shop. Oh, no! They were closed! It was back to the Inn, where I got regular coffee from the coffee urn, and brought it up to our room. Steve was awake, and we had our coffee.

We each took a shower, and headed down for dinner.

Next...dinner and the fireplace!

Day 3, part three...

The night was clear, cool and not a bit windy! We decided to take our chances eating outdoors. I took these pictures before we sat down:

Tomatoes:

Yes, they are tomato plants right on the Inn's property. It doesn't get any fresher than that!

We just sort of wandered outside and sat for a few minutes before the waitress came over. She asked "Did the hostess seat you?" Uh, no...we just assumed it was seat yourself... Well, she didn't even realize we were there! No big deal, she took our drink orders and brought us menus. Steve had a Coors light, and I had a glass of Merlot!

We ordered dinner. I had the onion soup (not au gratin, it has a large crouton in it sprinkled with cheese, really good ) and a summer strawberry salad. It was so good! I can't remember what Steve had for an appetizer, but he had a Delmonico steak for dinner!

It got dark and colder while we were eating, and Steve asked the busboy if we could have a fire in the outdoor fireplace. He told us "Sure!" and gathered some kindling and wood:

He got it going!

It was nice to dine by firelight, especially since we were outside! The fire started to die down a little, and there were only two tables left outside, so Steve took matters into his own hands with the fireplace.

Before:

After:

He also noticed that the other outdoor fireplace was winding down, so he went over and stoked that one, too:

Before:

After:

Night falls:

We wandered down to the other fireplace, which was next to the other occupied table. We ended up sitting and talking to the other guests, a grandmother and grandfather who were raising their young grandson. They had just come back from a trip that included Hershey, Lancaster, Washington DC and Annapolis. They lived only 30 minutes from the Brae Loch and were only there for dinner. We talked to them for almost an hour while the fire (and their grandson ) wound down. We said our goodnights and wandered back inside.

Steve challenged me to a game of pool in the pub, and I am sad to say that I lost.
This is taken in the mirror (notice Steve lining up for the shot!):

A few pictures of the pub area:

I tried darts but didn't know the rules:

Even the "Lassies" room is nice:

Well, the bad part was the loser of the pool game had to buy the winner a drink. We headed to the bar. Steve had another beer, and I had a Diet Coke.

After our drink, we decided to call it a night. Tomorrow was our farewell, and our drive home.

Next...the trip home.
