A Disney PhotoPass/Memory Maker Primer - Page 3 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I have a question about the memory maker card they sent me. Do we have to show that card to all the Photopass photographers or just the MB? What about at the restaurants the have photopass options? Thanks.
All you'll need is your MagicBand. In fact, since Memory Maker is linked to your MyDisneyExperience account, anyone in your party can scan their MagicBands at a PhotoPass photographer to have the pics added to your account.
I haven't tried one of the restaurants myself yet (though I have an ADR at Akershus tomorrow), but as I understand it, all you have to do is tell the photographer that you've purchased Memory Maker and they'll take your pic and scan your MagicBand.

That is what I thought, thanks. Have fun at Akershus.

Akershus was fantastic.
As e entered, the cast asked us whether we had any photo package, and since we had Memory Maker, we were ushered to an alcove near the entrance where Belle awaited to pose for photos with us.

That is great!! We are eating there on our upcoming trip!
Ok, here's another Memory Maker question concerning multiple families. We traveled with 3 families this year - we're all linked through F&F. I purchased MM and all 3 families were able to save their PP pics, ride photos, dining, etc. to my MM. I've downloaded all of our photos without a problem.
I thought the other 2 families would also be able to download their pictures too? They're adding borders, stickers, etc. to their pics. I could swear that last year my cousin was able to download all of our pics when we did the same thing last year (I bought MM and we were linked with her family).
My sister just sent me a screenshot and there's no "Download Photos" button on her screen.
I'm wondering if we're not as linked as I thought we were?
So I just checked with my cousin - yes, she was able to view AND download our Memory Maker photos last year. And no, she cannot download them this year. She and my sister can see everyone's photos but cannot download them. So perhaps a change was made to MM on Disney's side? And while we were able to save all of our pics, regardless of whether I was with any of them or not, it seems that only I can download them. So I can make copies for them. But they won't be able to add borders, etc. I guess.

No, the way it works is, only the person who bought the Memory Maker product is entitled to download the photos.
The other families' photos are in your account because you're in each others' F&F list. But only you paid for Memory Maker, so only you can download.
After you've downloaded all of the photos, you can burn them to CD/DVD, or share them online, so the other families can get theirs.
Now, if the other 2 families are still making changes to their photos, you need to let them know when your Memory Maker entitlement expires (which is 30 days after you made your first download), and coordinate so they'll have all of their changes done, and do a final download of the whole account at that time. That way, you get all of the photos for everybody before your entitlement expires.

Thanks so much, Will - once again you put it in plain English so that we can follow
Still, my cousin and I remember that she was able to download our pics last year (I bought MM then too) so not sure if that's changed...? Anywho, doesn't matter - I'm downloading them and sharing the whole bunch with the gang.

Thanks again!
Well, if you're in each others' F&F lists, then she could see your photos, and she could download, but not with your Memory Maker entitlement. If she downloaded your photos, it was either with her own Memory Maker, or she paid for them individually.

Yeah, I'm still not sure but it's all good. Thanks again for your help!
Is there a difference in price in what? PhotoPass is the photo-taking service; it sounds like you're talking about the PhotoPass CD, which is still available. It doesn't include the ride and dining photos, and it costs $119 if you pre-order it, which you can do here:
Is the $119 product described above still available? I'd prefer that as we aren't interested in ride photos and don't plan to dine anywhere that I think dining photos will be important. I'm not seeing it on the PhotoPass website.

Nope, it's been discontinued at WDW since, I think, mid to late 2013, when Memory Maker was put into the pipe.
But even if the Photo Archive CD was still available, I'm betting it would have increased in price by now to about $140(pre-order)/$180. But Disney just decided to simplify things; instead of saving $30 or $50 by purchasing the Archive CD, you just have to bite the bullet and buy Memory Maker if you want all of your photos in one shot.
I have gone in and edited my photos and I am ready to download. I did the download all, stored it in a zip file. Found the file, and tried to open it, I am getting some type of gibberish on Word Pad. I went in and changed how to open the file to Windows Photo Viewer. This doesn't let me save or make any corrections to the photos. I am not seeing individual named files of each picture, I can only view.
will I have to download these one at a time? I tried that and it works, but just such a tedious process.
You can try right clicking on the .zip file to see if you have an option on the menu called Extract All... You have to extract all of the photos from the .zip file before you can open them. If the Extract All option is not there you may have to download a program that will open the .zip file before you can access the pictures. There are different programs that you can get including WinZip and Zipeg.
After a little research, I was finally able to "unzip" the file without having to download anything.
I am running Windows 7. When I downloaded from Disney Photopass site, it put the file in my Downloads as a zip file. I right clicked on it and told it to open with Windows Explorer. It then shows each individual photo file that I could copy and paste in the folder that I wanted it.
Also, after logging into the Disney site, it asked me to set up security questions. Would not let me go any further. After doing that, all my photos disappeared. I called the help line and there are IT issues going on. If you have this problem, you may want to add your name to the list.
Hi Willcad! Trying to wrap my head around Memory Maker. I haven't had any photo products except the old Photopass where they sent you a disc.
My daughter & I both have APs. I renewed mine first, Before they changed it and price. A week later daughter renewed and got caught in price hike. And she has Memory Maker on her AP. We are connected with Family & Friends.
Am I right that I can see our photos, but can't download them? So I can only view? Can't email them to myself?
Bear with me, what does daughter download them to? She doesn't have a laptop, only a Samsung small tablet. Can she email the photos to me from MDE? I guess that's where you view them? Or do they have to be downloaded to a computer?
Does she edit photos on MDE or ?
What code? Is that something Guest Relations gives us when we turn in our vouchers for APs?
Is it possible to have my daughter log in to her MDE acct on my (Apple) laptop (or iPad) to download our pics to iPhoto? I would hate to loose all the pics. And we could also save them on a USB stick?
We are there (Wdw) 14 days. Does Memory Maker photos expire 30 or 45 days? So we would have only 2 weeks after returning home to get photos downloaded?
Thanks. I've read this thread but I still have prob wrapping my head around it!
