Southern Fried in Mickey's World Updated 12/31 - Page 3 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

That was a nice birthday dinner for Luke and very nice that Felicia didn't charge you for the dessert! Luke must have an iron stomach when it comes to spicy food! Some nice purchases at the Opryland Mall!
Glad all went well with the flight and arrival. Too bad you had a long wait for DME and that you were the last two to get off! That is not good with the room situation! First the dirty towels and now the painting and without a savanna view! I hope they do more for you besides the housekeeping service. I know you want to get to the parks, but perhaps you can have your room changed tomorrow! You are paying for the view even though you are DVC members with the points for this room than a standard one, which would be less.
We really didn't mind being the last two dropped off as it was cool to have the bus all to ourselves. We'll take of the room in our own way, eventually. But we won't be moving.

The heat/humidity did tire us out. We were very disappointed at the lack of information about the painting. When Alex told us we would have been told at the front desk. I let him know that would have been too late still.
Oh no! Sorry for your terrible daytime view! That's a shame.
And the towels left in your room is just gross!
As the trip goes on our room location actually gives us some views of animals we hadn't seen before. That long hallway had some little treats along the way.
I was thankful that Alex did a full inspection of the room to make sure nothing else was amiss.

Well that was not a good start to your stay. Did you get any points refunded? Doesn’t seem fair to charge Savannah views with the construction keeping the animals away.
Oh, dear! That room assignment doesn't sound promising. If you book savannah view you expect animals, not just the savannah! Not good, Disney!
I have a question about downloading the boarding pass to your phone. I've done it often when traveling alone, but didn't know it could be done to 2 different phones. Is this new? I've just never even considered it when DH and I are both flying on a single reservation.
I, too, have downloaded movies to watch to my iPad and then couldn't get the volume high enough to understand over the noise of the plane. Interesting that you could listen to an audio book though without issues. I've never thought of audio books on flights. I might have to check that out for future flights. I usually just read my kindle, but for longer flights audio might be preferable. I do listen to books when I have long drives alone. It really helps the time go by faster.

We are supposed to get points refunded, but Luke realized that he meant to call today as these have not been posted. I've made a note for us to contact them Monday. That was my point when I talked with concierge. No or limited animals doesn't qualify as a savanna view.

I guess after 26 trips we were due for a less than spectacular start.

This trip had some ups and downs but we still enjoy our stay.

I know that refurbishing has to go on. I like them keeping my home away from home looking as new as possible. But don't expect me to use extra points for something that will be non-existent or very limited.
We both have Samsung Galaxy S8 cell phones. Once we checked in, Luke had us both save the passes Google Pay. When we got to the airport, we could each pull up the passes from that section on the Google Pay app. It was so easy.
I listen to audiobooks when I clean and scrapbook, so I already had a book saved to my hoopla app. I thought it was weird, too, but I seemed to focus better on the audio than I do trying to read it myself.
Sorry about the view out your window! That stinks!
It definitely messed with the whole idea of a savanna view.

And towels on the floor? I've been hearing a lot of missteps with Mousekeeping and wonder what the heck is going on? I hope things get better!
We are supposed to get the points back for a savanna view. Luke noticed yesterday that these had not been returned to our DVC account yet, but he forgot to call today. He'll be calling Monday.
I have heard of others having a few issues with housekeeping, but this was a first for us.
Cam, I just checked Touring Plans room locator, and see that your room at Kidani was down one floor and directly across the hall from where Jeff and I were!
We saw crews painting when we were there as well, but they were very close to the lobby.

I had wondered if our room was anywhere near yours. The painters were outside our room every day except Saturday and Sunday. We just kept the curtains shut.
Cam, you are so tricky in changing these trip report titles that it always takes me a minute to catch on! My word!! It certainly does not sound like a very magical start to your trip!!
Your stay at the airport at least sounds like it was nice. I Opry Mills!!
Gosh I am so sorry for the rotten heat and humidity!! Your view at AKL is definitely less than magical and I sure hope the evening hours make up for it!!
