The Two Week "Mini" Disney Vacation - Page 3 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Saturday Nov 5:
We are going to sleep a bit this am. We have an ADR for breakfast at Kouzzina at 10 am. We went there last year for dinner and it was yummy! But after coming home last year, DH said how he wished we had more breakfast ADR's. And this year we are doing the DxDP so we have the TS credits available. I also looked at the menus on AllEars.net and saw that they have a sweet potato hash which DH would love.
After breakfast, we will probably take a boat over to DHS and play at that park for a bit. I really want to explore the Magic of Disney Animation and One Man's Dream. I have never seen these two things. (and DH is quite an artist himself - he draws well. Me - not so much. I can draw a bath ).
Later on, back to the hotel to freshen up for our next ADR - California Grill at 7:30 pm. Hopefully we can get a window seat - we did last year but we were celebrating our honeymoon. This year we are just celebrating us.
Funny story about CG last year - like I said, we had a window seat for Wishes and had a great dinner. So the next day, DH and I were on a bus from AKL and it was standing room only but DH and I were talking and I said something like "where else can you have sushi, a glass of wine and watch fireworks?". Two guys from the front of the bus heard and shouted back "Sushi! Wine? Where?" and then started a conversation over the entire length of the bus. We all had a joint conversation and talked all the way to the park!
Anyhow, there are EMH this day at MK from 10p-1 am. We plan on walking over and checking that out for a bit.
That's about it for Saturday.
Up next: New ADR's and lazy days - it's vacation!
“If you can dream it, you can do it. Always remember that this whole thing was started with a dream and a mouse.”- Walt Disney
Sounds good Coop! for getting your window seats. I love regular hash! Not so much a fan of sweet potatos unless they are pan fried so they get almost carmalized. Yum!
One of the nights we are there, MK is open till 1 am too. So we are planning a more leisurely day on that day as well. HAHAHA, as leisurely as I can do at WDW!
I just love when you talk to all the people on the buses, or anywhere at WDW. I always talk to so many people. It's just so different than striking up conversations with people at home.
PassPorter's Free-Book to Walt Disney World It’s hard to believe anything is free at Walt Disney World; but there are actually a number of things you can get or do for little to no cost. This e-book documents over 200 free or cheap tips to do before you go and after you arrive. You could save a considerable amount of money following these tips. Perhaps more importantly; you can discover overlooked attractions and little-known details most people whiz by on their way to spend money. Click here to see free sample pages from the e-book! Get this popular e-book free of extra charges when you join the PassPorter's Club for as little as $4.95. A club pass includes access to all our other e-books; e-worksheets; super-size photos; and more! This e-book is also available for separate purchase in the PassPorter Online Store for just $5.95.
Sounds like a plan for CG--You can actually ask for a window table at the check in desk, but you might have to wait awhile. I try to check in WAY before my reservation time and make that request. I got lucky on the last trip. I checked in early and ended up with the perfect view of the castle.
I highly recommend visiting the Animation Academy after viewing the Magic of Disney Animation. Even those of us who can't draw, like me, manage to turn out pretty decent Disney characters. I've learned to draw Tigger, Pooh, and Mickey so far--I did the last two by myself and Brandon and I learned to draw Tigger together. His looked like an animation drawing, mine looked like I followed step by step instructions (which I did), but we had a great time doing it.
One Man's Dream was recently updated and now includes the Mr. Lincoln audio-animatronic The movie always brings me to tears!
Love the magnets!! I have a white Tahoe, maybe I should get some. I'd be one BIG cow.
Your plans sound awesome. Good luck with the WAT. I went back in February (second week they offered the Trek) and it's the coolest thing I've done at Disney. I did the 9am tour (wish I'd done the 8am) and it wasn't until the last hour that it really started heating up out there. Couldn't imagine doing an afternoon trek. I am not afraid of heights but the bridges surprised me with the amount of movement when someone else is crossing the bridge behind you. The "boards" are spaced unevenly and some are quite far apart - I don't see how an 8 year old would manage. They do have a small version of the bridge for you to take a trial run on prior to officially beginning the tour, it is not very high up however. My suggestion, concentrate on your steps rather than what's under the bridge - with the uneven steps, this should not be hard to do. I tried to video my crossing the bridge with my Flip camera and it was a debacle, way to much movement and I was hanging on rather than filming properly. Definitely made for a funny video.

More please....
DH loves hash and sweet potatoes so this was a no-brainer. I love how most everyone is courteous and friendly at Disney. It's like we are all strangers but we are all in this together. More coming up.

That was a surprise from DH. He drove it home one day with them on and told me he got a new paint job! But then he was surprised when I said "Cool! "

Last year we asked for a window seat too and got it. Can't hurt to ask again, right? I can't draw a thing. Where is Animation Academy? Is it in the Magic of Disney Animation?

You are right - that would be one big cow! Wow, I don't think I would be trying to take video during the bridge crossing. I will just be trying to focus straight ahead or on my feet and holding on for dear life! I think I can, I think I can, I think . .. .
Sunday Nov 6: Today we don't really have much planned. Either Magic Kingdom, or Hollywood Studios would be our park choices. Or we will be resort hopping or just staying at BLT and using the pool. Like I said before - downtime.
We could do Epcot but DH wants to avoid weekends at F&WF, maybe I can persuade him though. There are some things that really sound great and we don't have an ADR until 9:30 pm at HDDR! (first for us!)
Monday Nov 7: Today will be Epcot. DH wants to make rope drop there. I just don't know if they have a "rope drop" ceremony or is it just park opening? - Either way - we want to be there first thing. We will meander through FW and then head toward WS for our 12:30 ADR at LeCellier!
Every time, at LeCellier, I get the filet but this year I am toying with the idea of getting the burger. I heard good reviews and since it's lunch and we are going to have a lot of great steaks during this trip at other places (oops -just gave away some more of my plans) maybe I can change this one up. Any thoughts on this?
This day is pretty much turning out to be the same as our last full day last trip. Right down to the reservation time! But I think since we bought into the DVC last year, we can omit the meeting and tour this time.
Later on, we head over to DHS for our 7 pm ADR at 50's PTD. This is also new for us. I have forewarned DH of the antics. But he loves this kind of cooking. Meatloaf, pot roast - down home comfort food. That's what I cook and that's why we are the size we are. (we are working on rectifying that - the size not the cooking!)
I probably should have called this thread - "eating our way through the world" Can you tell we have done a lot of planning around our stomachs? . F&WF, ADR's on DxDP. We made a list of where we wanted to eat, then at 180 days we made our rezzies, then we worried about parks and crowds, etc.
Anyhow, time for me to get ready for work. DH says "hi" to all and said he's making his packing lists. (See Sparks - He does the list thing too! I trained him well! hahahaha) 3 months from tomorrow!
All the adversity I've had in my life, all my troubles and obstacles, have strengthened me... You may not realize it when it happens, but a kick in the teeth may be the best thing in the world for you.”- Walt Disney

Great update Coop! Tell Chuck Hi! for me and that I can't wait to see his lists!
Le Cellier....I have that ressie on my schedule and it is for lunch. Bc they don't offer the burger on the dinner menu. I the burger! It's so much more than your average plain jane burger, it's like a steak burger. Best burger I have ever had in my life hands down! Definately recommend it, in fact very highly!
Your down days sound great. I think it's good to have a plan in case you decide to go out. I haven't done PTC, mostly bc I can't get away from Sci Fi and we don't spend a whole lot of time in DHS. But it sure sounds yummy!
