Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I am actually looking forward to DD15 being able to drive !! How's that for embracing fear?!?!

Yes, it is freaky how much we have in common. And guess what? I went to school in NYC too! But my first job was just north of the City at Helen Hayes Hospital in Rockland County. Almost worked at Columbia, though.

When you come from a very homogeneous community like I did, I think it can be a good experience to know what it's like to feel different. When we moved to Malaysia, we made a conscious decision to immerse ourselves in the community. Since we lived in a small ocean side town, we didn't have much of a choice! My oldest DD (and later my son) went to a local "Tadika" - kindergarten - where English was the primary language, but the kids still had Malay and Mandarin classes several times per week. For much of time we were there, my kids were the only Caucasians at the school. They still talk about what a good experience it was for them to learn what it's like to be the different one. It also helped them to learn to look at people as individuals rather than focusing on the color of their skin or their ethnicity.

As for me, I'm a peace loving wimp who tries to avoid fearful situations! Seriously though, when a situation arises that makes me fearful on any level, I think the best thing to do is confront it with confidence, try to deal with it as best as I can, and move past it (as much as I might want to avoid it!). Usually I find that the thing that I'm fearing isn't nearly as bad as I imagined.

I went through a phase where I lived by FDR's quote : The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

I'd love to truly embrace that concept.

I think about Jenny's situation in the book. She is basically homeless and without posessions. I have to say, I wonder if I could manage that as well as she seems to be managing!

So far, all the characters in this author's books started out with some sort of bog loss. I'm just so impressed with how they waste no time getting on with it.

That is something I REALLY want to master!

Good night, book club!

That was actually the condensed version. The whole story is too long to put on here but very touching. The answer to your question is probably because DH was 3 he was able to retain some of the memories of him and they look amazingly alike. When I see them out in the fields together, working, I honestly have a hard time distinguishing between the two of them. Even after that long separation and no contact it is amazing to see some of the same mannerisms and habits that they both share.

I guess that is similar to when Olivia looked at Jenny and knew she must be a relative, back in the old book! WHat an story! WIth people like us, we don't need to read fiction! We can just sit around and discuss each other's stories!!
I love hearing this stuff!

Good morning, book club!!

Did anyone find the Disney reference ?????????

I did not think much of Roarke when I first met him, but I have to say, now that I'm learning about his childhood, I feel bad for him. He is a nice guy!

I just finished a 3 day training with a bunch of fireman/police types. At first they were probably the most intimidating group I'd ever seen! I almost walked out of the room! BY the end of the training, I felt like I had 3-plus stations full of new big brothers. I actually felt sad to say good-bye.

Something about this makes me think of the people who jump in and save you in your hour of need. The ones who might even surprise you with their kindness, especially when you are in transition.

Another thought provoking pearl!

I was reading while having my lunch, and I really like a comment Roarke made on p. 132.

He was discussing the situation with his father. Jenny assumed that he gave up trying and walked away. Roarke corrected her and said "WHat makes you think I walked away from anything? Maybe I was walking TOWARD something."

THat is a really powerful statement! I've often tried to reframe my thinking in that way. It is so hard to give up on one of those no-win situations like a job, relationship, or a project that has run its course. I like the approach that it might not be giving up at all, just choosing something different!

I think it's like we talked about before, with Olivia in the last book. Rourke reinvented himself from what his parents expected into what he believed was right for him not the plans they had for him. Isn't growing up that way, not always so intense, controversial or earth shattering but the time you come to know what you want for yourself. The person you want to become may not be what you thought while growing up or even while raising a young family. Looking forward and stepping toward is always more productive than wallowing in what might have been. Rourke was thankful for what he had at the present but still had a vision for the future, hopes and dreams. Whew, that was a little too deep, but this book changed my mindset about Rourke. I liked him better as the book progressed and explained alot of things about him.

On page 122, Rourke is talking about his inability to forgive himself for Joey. Jenny then reflects that it's like spending the rest of your life doing penance, which reminds her of the violent, French version of Beauty and the Beast "not the squeaky-clean Disney version."

If I recall, though, Roarke is still a player when we fast forward to Fireside.
