PTR - Cruising with the Perry's on the Fantasy updated 12/04/2013 - Page 3 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I had one major item I needed to check off my 'To Do' list: Passport for DD Lydia.
Since we cruised last year and DD was only 3 months old I only brought along her birth certificate. This year I thought she should have a passport because it's a longer cruise and I know I would never forgive myself if something happened and she or one of us needed to fly home. At first I thought it was crazy, buying a passport for a 1 year old, but it is more convenient than bringing her birth certificate and big sis had one also. Last year I was more prepared because I had heard stories of people submitting for their passport and it took them months to receive, so we did ours in April. The passports came 2 weeks later! Sheesh that was easy!
Last week I took DD Lydia to have her picture taken at Walgreens. She hated it. I found out we now have to make an appointment at the post office for passports, which is crazy because the hours are horrible (11:15 - 12:15 or 2:15 - 3:15) and do not work well if you work during the day. So, we show up at our appointment only to find out the Walgreens associate had taken an incorrect photo. I was furious. Luckily I visit our post office frequently and the worker knew me and kindly offered to take us by 4pm if we could be back by then. We hauled to Walgreen's, showed them the messed up picture, got an associate who knew what she was doing and fought Lydia as she was so over this. A stranger with a camera in her face, not cool to her. After 15 min we got a good picture, printed and were back at the post office by 4pm on the dot! Since I waited so long to have Lydia's done I figured I'd have to pay for express shipping, but the kind postal worker insured me I should have this before our trip in 5 weeks.
This past weekend DH and I had a date. Usually it's wine and dinner. This one was to Mens Warehouse. Oh joy! DH has lost weight since he was in the hospital last year with pneumonia. His sports coat was a nice one from Gap and it's now too big. Mens Warehouse had a deal, buy 1 get 1 for $100. Well I like to shop on a bargain and I thought the black coat was too much. I asked the sales associate if he had anything cheaper. He laughed at me and said no. But then said he liked my name and he'd see what he could do for me. He came back and had knocked $100 off the price Ladies and gentlemen, it never hurts to ask! We walked out with a brown and black suit coat which were needed for formal night, Remy's and work.
I also needed a nice dress for formal night, but did not want to spend a lot of money on something I won't wear often. I thought about a short cocktail dress, but then my mom told me her dress is long. After doing research I found Vintage Clothing, Cute Dresses, Indie & Retro Women's Clothing | ModCloth. Love that site! I found a beautiful dress on there at a great price and free shipping. . It should be in tomorrow.
DD Lydia needed a nice dress for formal night. I know it's not required but since DD Haleigh will be dressed up from BBB as Princess Minnie I wanted DD Lydia to feel included. I found a dress at Macy's but couldn't bring myself to pay $50 for a dress she'll wear 1-2 times. Just my luck, the girls and I were at a garage sale last week and I found two beautiful dresses for Lydia!
My total was $5!! They are both going to be a little big on her, but that's alright it was a good deal I couldn't pass up! Not sure which dress she'll wear on Formal night but we'll figure that out later!

Why are dress suits and dresses so expensive? LOL I will definitely be shopping at Modcloth again! We still haven't received DD's passport but it will be 3 weeks this Friday so I'm not worried yet.
Just caught up now. Sounds like you are getting everything done. Can't wait to read about the actual trip. What IMO does DCl actually send you in that spiral bound book? J

The book includes your luggage tags for DME, vacation checklist, reservation details, vacation overview, cruise documents, and important extras. Definitely fun to read through a few times

DD received her passport last week . Last week we all had a bad stomach virus. I'm glad the kids are feeling better and I pray it stays that way for the next few weeks!
Well with less than 2 weeks till take off I have begun packing! My friend let me borrow their garment bag so that saved me money from having to buy one! Yesterday I packed up our medicine bags. One for DH and myself and one for the girls. I know there is a higher risk of getting sick on a cruise just because there are so many people on one giant boat! That was my fear last year that one of the girls was going to catch something. My oldest DD has allergy problems so I made sure that medicine was packed along with Tylenol, cold/flu meds, diarrhea meds, thermometer, bandaids, etc. Last year we didn't need anything from our medicine bags. Woo hoo! Hoping we repeat that again this year.
I have begun setting out the girls outfits for dinner. I ordered pirate tank tops for them from Etsy. I wasn't completely happy with the final products that were sent, but when I went back to her shop she was 'on an extended vacation'. Whatever that means. I know that I can still leave feedback even though her shop isn't active right now. I'm disappointed. Oh well, time to pack for a cruise!
Since my oldest DD wears a school uniform every day it's easier to pack for her right now setting out shorts, swim suits, and shirts. I have their dresses set out for dinner. They will be wearing 1 or 2 outfits more than once to save on packing space. After all, you never know how many souvenirs Mickey is going to send us home with. Or should I say mom will buy.
I think we will only be bringing 2 suitcases, 1 garment bag, and DD will have her rolling Brave suitcase we'll bring on the plane that will include diapers for the trip. I do this because if our suitcase gets lost, I need the essentials for the baby! Also, after the trip I'll have that extra room for souvenirs. We did this for our trip in May and it worked perfect. I have my carry on set out which is a large Thirty One backpack with many pockets. It will hold my DD homework from school, my Kindle for DD to read on, headphones, lots of snacks, extra change of clothes for the baby, and coloring books. Since DD is only 14 months old and can't sit still I'm trying to find things and ways to entertain her on the plane. If you have any suggestions please let me know. She's not into watching shows, playing games on the iPad or just sitting still in general. Love her to pieces. We did just discover she enjoys coloring in her big sisters coloring books and she loves to eat (which we've known all along). But that won't last 2 hours (duration of flight). Our oldest DD was and still is a fantastic traveler, but you know what they say 'No two kids are alike.'
This weekend I'm going to finish up most of the packing since we'll have a 3 day weekend. I've already contacted DD's teacher and she will be sending before we leave her workbook and a few work sheets for us to work on during our trip.
