As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I usually sit out with dd6 while dh rides with dds 4 & 8. What kills me is right as we are leaving dd says oh I wish I had tried that. Maybe since we're there a couple of days she might try a few things. I am so afraid of picking the wrong ride and setting her back though.
My kids don't like big rides either. My daughter has tried ToT and splash. she hated ToT and liked Splash at first, but our next trip didn't like it. I just let the kids go at their own pace and don't push them. No one is happy when a kids scared and crying.
My DD was 11 when we last went to WDW. She and I were both very afraid of roller coasters, but made a pact to at least try all the rides that scared us. (Our only exceptions to this rule were ToT and RnR.) We started out by going on the tamer thrill rides first. We did Goofy's Barnstormer, then BTMRR, then Splash Mountain. I will not ride SpM again since the drop terrifies me too much, but I can say that I tried it at least once.
I did eventually ride RnR when my brother talked me into it. And I ended up loving it. DD stayed behind with her cousin and my DParents.
Now DD LOVES to ride thrill rides. She truly conquered her fears and credits our trip to WDW for this accomplishment. Her most recent thrill ride is the Steel Eel at Sea World in San Antonio. Just watching the train go down the first drop made my stomach queasy. It dropped 6 stories (I think) at a very steep angle. It was steep enough and fast enough that her and DBF experienced freefall for a few seconds. I bought the pic of the two of them on the ride to commemorate the event. I have a feeling that when we go in November she will take a stab at ToT with DBF while I hang out in the gift shop. (I really don't think I could stand to watch her on that ride.)
My DD was a big chicken for a long while. I tried the bribing-her thing once to get her to ride Kiliminjaro Safaris, and it was a disaster. Even though it was really frustrating to me, I just had to remind myself that it is her vacation, too, and I don't want her to be miserable. So I just would suck it up, and go on rides that were within her comfort level.
Now that she has gotten older, she is much more comfortable with going on new things. I just explain to her what the ride entails, and let her make the decision. There are still things she isn't willing to try - Dinosaur - and some things that she tried that she still wants no part of - ITTBAB - but overall she is more adventurous and willing to go on things I don't think she otherwise would have if I had forced her when she was younger.

I have never made Lilly go on a ride she did not want to go on. I would never ever do that to her. She is suposed to trust me and I would never make her doubt me like that. I was just wondering if any other parents had any ideas that help thier own kids try new things. Last night we watch some video rides and she is going to try Splash Mount. We will see how it goes. That is the think she loves when her stomache drops going down the hill in the car.......she will out grow it is just the fear of trying new things.....thanks for all of the advice.
My son has been totally afraid of the thrill rides (he's 10). We have tried to talk him into riding a few things but generally don't make a big deal of it or try to make him ride. This past trip in March, he braved Big Thunder and loved it! He ended up riding it 6 times during the trip. Now for our May trip he has decided he wants to try Splash Mountain and Test Track. I think just letting them go at their own pace is the best way to handle it. Eventually, she will probably decide to do them on her own.
I would try the youtube videos! If that does not work then maybe it was not ment to be! I would try BTMRR 1st! that seems to be the tamest of all the bigger rides!
