Did anyone else see this re: stroller rental fee increase?? - Page 3 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I'm bringing my dd stroller from home and I purchased a double umbrella stroller for my ds's (5) from Walmart for $89. I mean we will use it in the mall and our local six flags and on walks to the park, ect. They actually walk very well but I'm surely not expecting them to walk around the Disney Parks all day. They'll want someone to pick them up. Uh...No. They can just sit in their side by side stroller and relax. I love it. I do feel for those who doesn't want to lug their strollers though and have to pay the hefty price of the rental. That's crazy.

Darn!! I guess my DB and DSIL will have to bring their own this summer. I thought the prior rates were reasonable. At $27/day, for a typical 7 day stay - its more than purchasing - maybe Disney is trying to make the strollers it sells more appealing by making the rental ridiculous!

That's a pretty big increase. I'm wondering if they are going to offer more money back upon return.... I've noticed more and more that there are lots of abandoned strollers strewn all about the park at night....it costs money to send someone around to wrangle them up....... One night at MK, we were pretty much the only ones in ToonTown during an EMH, and noticed about a half-dozen strollers by Goofy's Barnstormer.....we told the boys to hop in a few and we pushed them to the front of the park.
Wow what an increase! I'm glad we have outgrown strollers a looonngg time ago. Our mode of travel now is the ECV and we will be bringing them from home.
They are soooooooo expensive!!!! I think we're just going to bring out umbrella and the older two (10,8) we'll have to suck it up!!1
Is that mean?????? I mean I don't get a stroller!??!?!?
No, it isn't mean at all, Kim. it's actually been speculated quite a bit that this is one of the resons for the extreme hike in prices; discouraging parents with older children from renting them.
I have two younger ones but also a 9 & 10 yr old. it would have never crossed my mind to rent one for the oler ones, but Ibet if we had a double for the little ones, the two oldies would eventually take a sit down in one.
I emailed Disney Friday afternoon got this response. Upset at the price increase..it's crazy! We are now looking at $190 for the week...CRAZY!
Dear Kimberly,
Thank you for contacting the Walt Disney World Resort.
Although guests are welcome to bring their own, strollers may be rented
in each of our four theme parks (at the designated stroller/wheelchair
rental location). Double strollers are also available at the Magic
Kingdom Park, Epcot, Disney's Hollywood Studios and at Disney's Animal
Kingdom Theme Park. All of our strollers feature canopies (sun shades),
as well as a small basket for the storage of personal items: however,
they do not recline. Stroller reservations are not accepted, they are
available on a first-come, first-served basis only. Should you wish to
visit more than one park in a given day, simply retain your stroller
receipt and present it at the second park to obtain another stroller at
no additional cost.
For guests who require a stroller rental for multiple days, we offer a
Length of Stay rental ticket where you make a one-time payment
transaction for as many days of rental that you will need. Upon visiting
a Theme Park, simply show your receipt at the stroller rental location
and you will be directed through the queue with little or no wait.
Stroller Prices:
Single: $15 per day rental (no deposit); $13 per day Length of Stay
rental
Double: $31 per day rental (no deposit); $27 per day Length of Stay
rental
Rental strollers are available at the Magic Kingdom Park, Epcot,
Disney-MGM Studios, Disney's Animal Kingdom, and Transportation and
Ticket Center.
The official WDW site lists the new higher prices as well. thanks for bringing this to my attention. I was planning on renting a double for when we go in december and it'll be $135 for 5 days... I wrote them a note on the website to let them know how I felt about it. I know it won't help, but it made me feel a little better:
"I wanted to express my sincere disappointment and surprise at the huge price increase to rent strollers at the Disney World parks. We are going in December with two children and were planning to rent a double stroller for 5 days, but that's $135 just for the stroller. It's cost prohibitive for some families that have to stretch every dollar and cent just to come to Disney, it seems that everything is so expensive already, to increase something like this is insulting.
Thanks for listening,
Jennifer"
I realize they can't leave prices stagnant forever, that would be bad business, but it seems to be a bad choice for a price hike.

Yep, I sent an email too. Maybe with enough show for concern, they might lower it...... yeah, right!

Thank you Emtpej!! It't the first time in ages we've had a lengthy trip to enjoy(in a slow and lovely way) all of the World. My kiddies are 8,7, and 3--bring on the magic! I'll give Mickey a kiss for you!
And back to the strollers...give it 6 months when no one rents a stroller due to gas prices and the economy. I'll bet they change their tune.
