Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Thumbs up Very nice

Wow, Bruce, I love your trip report! You have a very refreshing sense of humor

Can't wait to hear how you like the Mediterranean Sea. I just looked at the ports of call and I haven't been to ANY of them . Oh wait, I see you're going to Monte Carlo, Cannes and Nice. I especially like Monte Carlo - can't beat that grand casino

Keep us updated!

hey Bruce - do they still have computer stations on the ship or do you HAVE to bring a laptop now? I have no intention of bringing mine to Europe but i want on-ship internet.

Music from the Rocky Horror Picture Show. On a Disney Cruise! Yeah that is a bit strange!

Can't wait to hear about the "spa" haircut! My husband would never have agreed to that - no way, no how, never!!!

Day 5 - At Sea (yet again)

The days are beginning to run together, with a similar pattern to each. Up at 8, brunch at Lumiere's at 9, food demo with Epcot Executive Chef Christine Weissman at 10, lecture at 11, nap at 12, etc. It's a hard life, but *somebody* has to live it!

Christine is German and it shows. Her first three demos all included potatos. "I *like* potatos," she says. So do we once she's done with them. Potato Pancakes, Potato and Leek Consume, Potato Gnocchi... tomorrow it's apple strudel, and we can't wait to see how she manages to get potatos into that!

The lecture series has been most interesting. Dean Papavassiliou has lived and worked in 50 countries for the State Department or World Bank, and has a historian's appreciation for the changes of the past few decades. In addition to his lectures, he hosts a current events discussion group each day. Only a handful tend to show up for these, but always interesting people with something to say. We've had chats about education with a official for a state department of education, oil futures with an oil company economist, health care with a hospital manager, and the Iraq problem with everybody. It's a nice change from the pure hedonism that's most cruising activities.

The seas have calmed enough that wifi is working again and only the drunks are walking crooked. Not so the wind, which has been hitting near gale force and making the Deck 4 promenade too soggy for exercise. (I'm *so* disappointed!) The Tropicalifragilisticexpialidocious Deck Party was postponed by a day, which put me in diner wearing the wrong loud shirt.

Tonights dinner was a new, "Farewell to the Caribbean" menu, which we were allowed to keep. There are some keepers on it, such as Caribbean Spiced Pot Stickers with Creole Dip or Pink Salmon and Jalepeño Dumpling appetizers, and entrees like Polynesian Seafood Rissoto with grilled lobster or Cajun Baked Bahamian Snapper. I do have to go do some research on which of the polynesian islands has lobsters though.

Day 6 - At Sea (more of the same)

Today we concentrated on *not* doing things. We did not go to Ducky Williams' character drawing lesson; we did not go to the Tourist Spanish lesson; we did not go see "Bridge to Tarabithia"; we did not watch "The Art of the Story"; and we *way* didn't take part in "Krazy Karioke"!!!

We still had a full day. We did take in Christine's cooking demo (she didn't find a way to put potatos in the strudel, thank goodness); we did attend a lecture on the history of the Iberian peninsula (now Spain, Portugal, and Gibraltar); we did enjoy the afternoon current events discussion and would have attended towel folding if it hadn't conflicted; and as ever, we ate and drank too much. I also sat close enough to the "Disney Tune Trivia" to overhear the music -- got all but one right, and that one was an instrumental piece from "Cars". Gotta go see that again, I suppose.

Another one-off dinner menu tonight, "Transatlantic". Double Baked Guyère Cheese Souffle, Crown of Scallops and Caviar Macedoine; Duck and Armangnac Consumme with Black Trumpet Mushrooms and Chestnuts Quenelles; Grilled "Cote de Boeuf" Madeira and Black Truffle Gravy, Grilled Salmon with Creamy Risotto and a Barolo Wine Sauce, Blueberry Souffle.... Is it just me, or is my cabin actually getting smaller?

I haven't mentioned our dinner companions yet because we weren't sure who they were yet. The first night we and a friend shared an 8-top with a family of five. Two kids who were suffering badly from jet-lag (we have the 8:30 seating), their parents (dad was a bit daft), and grandmother, who was sharp as a whip and most interesting. Alas, the kids made friends with kids on the first seating and they transferred away. The next few nights the head server told us that other families were asking for changes and we'd soon have another family join us. Apparently, this cruise has had more requests for table changes than any six normal cruises, and he seemed a bit harried by it all. The transfer to our table never did happen, so it's just the three of us at the big table. We've decided to start inviting others to join us just so it won't seem so lonely.

Big event this evening: other ships were spotted! A small cargo ship, perhaps 2/3 the size of the Magic, we passed at perhaps half a mile distance. Later a very small sailboat blew past going west at about the same distance. The captain blew our whistle for them and nearly blew them off course!

The strangest thing is that I've actually caught up on my email and have started in on the books and magazines I brought. Some cruises I never get that far, so I consider that a very good sign.

Much better to think it good than to think I'm going daft from too many consecutive days at sea!
