Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

Re: Your BEST WDW theme park secret!

Welcome to the boards Paul and Tara!

What about the soundtracks that are played from the shops above Main St. USA? On the right and left of Main St. about half way down there are little side streets on either side of the road. In the upstairs window of one of the building you can hear a dance class being conducted.

I loved this topic and thought I would bump it up as a great reminder for all the travelers during the upcoming spring break. I have made a list of them in my Passporter and plan to find as many as possible!

Re: Your BEST WDW theme park secret!

There is an exit arrow after you leave MK that points to the turn stills. It is on the red concrete and is the shape of the castle with one of the towers as an arrow. I have apic of it but no way to scan it onto my or I would have posted it. The path JenS mentioned is a great quite spot.

keep them coming. I am taking notes for my next trip in 178 days.

Don't keep secrets, Bobºoº

Re: Your BEST WDW theme park secret!

Okay, okay...this doesn't count as a secret just a feeling. I get teary eyed walking down Main Street and hearing the song from Hello Dolly...it goes, "put on Sunday clothes when you feel down and out". Got me every time we walked on Main Street.

I was chosen for the Indiana Jones Show. We sat maybe 3 rows up from the bottom, dead center. I wasn't listening and screamed when she asked the guys to scream. So basically embarassment and a huge scream got me down there. Nobody told me how "very attractive" I would look in the garb. Those photos are soooo blackmail!

54 days and I can hardly stand it!!

Re: Your BEST WDW theme park secret!

Hey guys,

Here's what we did, unintentionally, to get picked for Indiana Jones show.

First, we were on our honeymoon and we bought Bride and Groom Mickey and Minnie ears. We were noticed by many CM's congratulated by all that noticed.

Second, when the CM in charge of the warm up to Indy show asks if they are people on their Honeymoon, stand up and remain standing longer than the rest of the couples. This will add attention to you and you may get a better chance to be selected. You have to remember, it doesn't matter which couple gets chosen, their job is to find the extras within a timely manner. They have a time frame that they need to accomplish this task, get them into costume, make sure all of them have signed waiver, and instruct them of what they will do. He or she just wants someone who is excited and will do their best in the extra role.

I hope this helps.

Re: Your BEST WDW theme park secret!

Don't forget to get your hair-cut at MK

The barbers are great and will 'Ham you up' for a great photo op!

And, they will ask "if it's your first hair-cut at Disney ?"

Re: Your BEST WDW theme park secret!

Other neat things:
Pull the "well" rope by Indiana Jones--you know, the rope that says, "Don't pull!".

Check out the beautiful murals and shops inside Cinderella's castle. Also, if you're dining at Cindy's, ask to view the hereldic crest guide for the lobby--the crests all correspond to an Imagineer or Disney himself. And don't forget to look for Jacques and Gus.

At the Cinderella fountian, if you angle yourself right, the crown that is in the background of the fountian will "fit" over her head--very cool.

Look for the skeletons playing chess in the queue at Pirates.

There's a wildlife footprint guide at Wilderness Lodge, so you can identify the footprints in the cement on the walkways.

Look for the lawnmower tree at Ft. Wilderness. It was actually there before Disney bought the property--someone really had left a lawnmower out and a sapling grew up around it!

Re: Your BEST WDW theme park secret!

Once, when my youngest was small, we went on Haunted Mansion. The ride stopped when we were at the ballroom scene. Being only something like 3, she was scared. I had the camera bag with me and thought by turning on the camcorder light for a moment, she would be able to see she was ok (her dad and siblings were in the doombuggy in front of us and she couldn't see them anymore) As I turned the light on, I got a real surprise. The "ghosts" are all behind what looks to be a plexiglass wall! You could see all the scratches on the plexiglass. It is also much closer to the car than you would imagine...not even a couple feet!!

There are several different variations of what will happen, so pull it more than once too!

When you are in that same general area, you can also see Dinosaur Gertie's giant footsteps on the ground leading to where she is standing in the lake.

Not really a secret, but I always like to look for the giant cookies (meteor rocks) floating through the sky in Space Mountain.
Yes they are back, for those of you who saw my trip report! I was so relieved to see them hurtling through space last week

I saw the tree. I didn't know it was there before Disney brought the property. I always thought that most of the land that became WDW was just vacant swamp land. How did you get that little piece of trivia?

Re: Your BEST WDW theme park secret!

I read it in Birmbaum's guide many moons ago (ok, when I was 7, and I'm 28 now... )

Also, check out "Since the World Began", a very nice coffee table book. Apparently, Discovery Island was the site of (I think) a vacation home, and it was also the site of the first radio station in Florida, or something like that.

I am pretty sure that this is in the Epcot Rose. That is located past the Fountain of Nations on the way to WS. It is very easy to never even notice it but look for the pinkish red tiles as you walk toward WS, it is in the very center.

This is a cool topic, I was amazed at how many things I didn't know!
