Is this real life - or is this just Fantasy? updated 05/19/2016 - Page 3 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Everyone of your plates at the Palo brunch looked divine. for the alert, but thankfully tonight I'm so stuffed from dinner at Outback that I didn't feel the least bit tempted. Dinner looked very good, too. I hate when I buy new clothes and they shrink the first time they are washed. I can't believe how horrible the dress shrunk.
The food was awesome! I couldn't believe it either - we washed as directed. Cold water, hung to dry. I should've tried it on again after washing but who'd of thunk?

I didn't bother contacting them. The place was in India and took 6 weeks to get here anyway. I chalked it up as a loss.

The Palo food all looks delicious. A buffet, chef samples and menu items? I would have been rolled out of there with a handbag full of desserts.
The Captain's dinner looked yummy but not as nicely presented as Palo.
I was chuckling aloud at your selfy competition. I can't manage one with the picture right in front of me.
Palo was amazing! I was doing selfies during the entire trip - got each one too!
I was up at the 7 am alarm today but Chuck slept until 7:45.
We got up and ready for the day and headed to Royal Court for breakfast. I ordered poorly today. French toast and pineapple stack wasn't very tasty.
Chuck's plate
I barely touched it. So Chuck and I left and went out on deck 4 to fool around. We played some shuffleboard and took in some sights.
Then we headed up to check out Cabanas. Chuck was worried that I hadn't eaten very much.
After a (second) bite of breakfast - which was much much better btw - we headed back to the room for some sunscreen before heading out to our excursion. We left for O'Gills Pub to meet up with our group. We walked through the port and they took us to our minivan taxis.
The taxi ride was only about 5 mins down the road and we arrived at a hotel for our Salsa & Salsa excursion. We walked up the stairs (noting that the bathroom was on the first floor and also noting how slippery the tile floors were) and were immediately handed a margarita (frozen).
Chef selfies!
There were a bunch of tables all set up for us and we chose one with a bunch of other people from our cruise. We also had people from Norwegian Cruise Line with our group. They had one person who was drunk off their rocker upon arrival! Apparently it was a girls trip with a birthday celebration and she was celebrating HARD! She thought she could run the show and a couple times tried to take the microphone away from the hosts. I'm surprised that they served her at all! My notes for the day said "Drunky McDrunkerton". And boy was she!
She needed THIS sign
Even without the drunk show, we did learn how to make a few salsas. They kept coming around and refilling our margaritas. Even though I may have had quite a few margaritas - I was not feeling the effects so I think they were very weak. We learned to make the salsas and during one of the mixing times, I had to run to the bathroom - so Chuck took it upon himself to add ALL OF THE HOT PEPPER! I came back and tried the salsa - thinking it was mild - and nearly choked! They also instructed us on a couple of margaritas and a sweet salsa that they paired with some ice cream. It was very nice.
Salsa
Guacamole and salsa verde
Pico de Gallo
Sweet Pineapple salsa - great on ice cream!
They also had a fundraiser for third world countries effected by natural disasters. They had a "piggy bank" decorated and named. Lela the pig. So I took some time to donate there and got my picture holding the pig. (this particular donation was going to the tsunami in Manilla)
We also saw the yacht race excursion that we had originally thought of taking.
After the "cooking" portion was done - they had us push the tables to the side and took a group picture.
Drunky McDrunkerton thought that this was her opportunity again. . Then they started teaching us the steps to the Salsa. One, Two, Three - Four, Five, Six, hips in a figure eight and hands like "wax on - wax off" from Karate Kid. It was fun but I did NOT feel coordinated. After a bit - Chuck and I ditched the rest of the dance lesson and went down to the water. We found a cute gazebo at the end of the pier and there was a Mother/Daughter there. We offered to take their pic and they were so grateful. Then they returned the favor. Then they wanted a picture taken WITH us! LOL! So sweet! They gave us hugs and smiles as we left.
Cozumel selfie!
We then hopped back on the minivan taxi back to the port - we took the first ones as some people stayed behind to utilize some of the hotels amenities. We checked in some of the shops around the port. One shop had prescription drugs available over the counter! If we had forgotten anything for our blood sugar or Chuck's blood pressure - we could've gotten it here! Lipitor and Glucophage were very cheap! I was surprised. While I had wanted to get SOMETHING that would say "I was in Cozumel" - I didn't find anything I really wanted. Most of the things that said "Cozumel" on them were just tacky touristy stuff.
Once we got back on the ship, we headed to our stateroom and got into our suits. Then we headed up to the pool/hot tub. After a bit in the pool, we headed back to the stateroom and ordered some room service for a little snack. We just chilled out before dinner. Dinner tonight was at Animator's Palette. I found it to be just ok. I really like the black truffle purses but everything else is just meh. It's just not my favorite menu.
black truffle purses
Salmon
beef tenderloin
Swordfish - i think
lemon cheesecake
chocolate Mousse type bar
After dinner, we took a walk around the deck but then headed back to the room and conked out!
Football on FunnelVision
Up Next - Grand Caymen - do we want to get off the boat or not?
Seems like the two of you had a good time at the salsa excursion! Too bad that girl was quite drunk at so early in the day! Your salsa creations looked good. Nice photos from your day of the Fantasy, excursion and Cozumel! I almost took this excursion in Cozumel, but went with something else.
If you've been following my cruise TR, I'm about to begin Cozumel. Might not have an update till next weekend!
Too bad your dinner wasn't that great! Although, some of it does look good and love those pasta purses!

Checking in for this part of the trip! We were on the Fantasy this past October and I LOVE looking at your photos and remembering (Cause right now in Michigan it's too cold for my Spanish blood!!)
The Salsa & Salsa excursion was one I considered, but when I told Luke it included salsa dance lessons he said, "No!" I didn't think about our leaving when it got to that part because we both love salsa. Sorry dinner was just blah, but I do love how you two enjoy your days. Very much like Luke and me with a more laid back feel.
Too bad you didn't have video of Miss Drunkard as it would be entertaining, according to your reports of during your salsa class! I'm sure she wouldn't want others seeing her this way,,,but then again...
The salsa class was one of my choices but like Cam said about Luke regarding this one, I wasn't interested in the salsa dance and went with as Cam and Luke did in Cozumel and the Mexican cuisine class. You will have to see my experience in my cruise TR! I will have one update (arrival in Cozumel) before this excursion!

Drunky didn't really take away from the experience. It was fun laughing at her antics. We had fun anyway. And dinner was fine - just not my favorite (except for those pasta purses!)

It was fun. She sat out some but it was quite the show. During the group photo, one of Drunky's friends came up next to Chuck and put her arms around him. She backed off quickly and I didn't have to go all alpha on her! Mexican prisons *shudder*

Thanks. It was very nice and serene. Animator's Palette is good - but I've just had better at other restaurants. I think my favorite is Enchanted Garden.

She really didn't detract. It was funny watching and wondering what she would do next. Chuck was bad pulling one over on me. But he got that salsa all to himself - I think that was his motive!

Welcome! I know that! We're in Michigan too and it's only recently gotten "warmer" - meaning open windows spring-like.

We had thought about doing the cooking one that you and Luke had done (after reading your TR) but it was a lot of seafood which I'm not very fond of. I really wish we could have done the Regatta (sailing ship race) like we had originally planned but I think with Chuck's health, things are going to change up even more. Laid back it is! Nothing wrong with that.

I didn't even THINK of doing a video! That would've been hilarious! We thought about the Mexican cuisine class but it sounded like a lot of seafood and I don't really care for a lot of seafood.
Sorry for the delay. I don't know why I haven't just been whipping this out. Life has started to "settle" a bit. Chuck is back at work but still taking it easy with shorter days and lighter duty. He's also back at the theater. While I feel he is burning the candle at both ends, he assures me that he is doing ok. He says "I don't do anything at the theater - I'm just the assistant director. I do less than I would at home" While this may be true, I'm still concerned about the demand on his time and stress. But so far, he's doing well.
My health is doing ok as well. My blood sugars have been consistently below 200 mg/dl (which is good - my doctor wanted me between 130-180). We are eating better and I'm trying to lose some weight. I did break a crown and unfortunately can't have it fixed (under insurance) until December! But good thing is - it's already a root canal and it doesn't hurt. I need to go in for a cleaning soon so we will see what my dentist says.
Ok - so I'm getting ready for a new post here. For whoever is still hanging in there.
Thanks!
