Girls' Work and Play Getaway (or "Two Moms Play in Disney World") - COMPLETED! - Page 3 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Great update! I think all the meat-eaters on this board are salivating about those sliders and the HBD lounge will soon have a line out the door. I'm so glad you finally got to One Man's Dream. It's a wonderful tribute and a must-do for me every trip.
Actually, I thought about you when I wrote it - I didn't have anything for my veggie friends
I really enjoyed One Man's Dream. I had just seen Saving Mr. Banks, so it was pretty neat.

I really enjoyed my meal there (if you can't tell, lol). It was something I wouldn't have been able to do with the kids. Kids can eat there, but it would be a different experience

It was a great trip, made even better by being with my good friend!

***************
Ahem. It was MY idea to sign up for the 6:30 am breakfast. At the time it sounded like a great idea! It was an extra $35, but the hospital was paying for it and the program title "Headlines in Healthcare" sounded intriguing. Katie did not sign up for it and laughed a little when I showed it to her on my schedule. What a pal... Actually that morning it wasn't as hard to get up as I thought, as I was looking forward to it. I quietly got ready so I wouldn't wake Katie up and headed over to the convention hall.
Crazy people were always out jogging, no matter what time of day
They served a very nice, if mildly Tex-Mex plated breakfast and some excellent coffee that I'm sure must have been reserved for events, lol. (If you know anything about Disney coffee, you know what I mean.) It turned out to be an excellent presentation and I'm glad I went. I met up with my buddy afterwards for the last sessions of the convention, then we were done with work!
We stopped to grab a celebratory drink on the way back to the room. I had a yummy pina colada and I think Katie had another craft beer. I think we must have had a snack in the room before heading out to Epcot.
It's kind of hazy now, but I think we wanted to spend some quality time in the World Showcase. I had scheduled some fast passes, but we ended up really just moseying around. I was looking forward to just hanging out in the pavilions without having to run off somewhere or do something for someone. I had never been to a Disney Park without riding anything, but as you'll see, we had blast anyway! (hashtag lol) We started with a late lunch at Sunshine Seasons. I had the Togarashi Seared Tuna Noodle Salad and key lime pie for dessert (I had my own water). I paid $16.38 and I have to really think about it if it was a good value to me. (No photo of the tuna, I tucked right into it before I thought about it! ) I got a huge portion of tuna, which I'm sure was a mistake - the CM behind the counter was clearly just starting out on the job. I thought it tasted good and I couldn't finish it. The pie was a standard QS dessert size, but it was yummy. Overall, I think I got a good value, but it would have been too expensive for me if my family was with me.
Off to Canada!
It was pretty warm. I think the ducks were trying to get some shade!
I wish you could hear this...
Waiting for "O Canada". Possibly my most favorite timer ever.
I really wished these were shops or museums to browse...
I had no idea what this was. I found out later that this was "Hotel du Canada". It would have been nice to go inside and maybe see some more that Canada has to offer.
Then to the United Kingdom...
I've always caught the end of this show. I finally got to watch the whole thing. Katie had never seen it either - it was a lot of fun!
Can you believe I've never been to America? (The pavilion .)
Proud to be an American
I thought it was hilarious that these children were pledging allegiance to our flag. I heard a lot of Portuguese accents
I am so happy I finally got to see and hear these wonderful singers! (Thanks Princess Sharon!)
The ceiling of the American pavilion
THIS was good. "Frozen Red Stag Lemonade with Jim Beam Bourbon"
After all the world traveling, we needed a sit down! We found the perfect place - a bench in the America Gardens Theater. (Seeing the rest of the American Adventure will have to wait for another visit.) The Journey tribute band "DSB" was about to start. I had just seen Journey in concert two weeks before the trip, so I thought it was ironic - I'd been waiting to see Journey for 35 years and now I'm seeing them twice in one month! They were pretty good, but we wanted to see more of the World.

You are having so much fun! I love just walking around WS! The show in the United Kingdom is hilarious, isn't it? We make a point of catching it several times each trip. Once I was chosen to be the fair Roxanne in their rendition of Cyranose de Bergerac.
So glad you were able to see the Voices of Liberty as well! Their harmonies are just so beautiful! The only down side is they only sing a few songs!
And now, my "most favored Epcot country" is officially Morocco. I had visited Spain a long time ago when my dad was stationed in Germany. The Morocco pavilion feels so authentic, it really reminded me of being in a Mediterranean country. I apologize for the blitz, but I really felt like a tourist for a while, instead of a Disney vacationer.
I bought some beautiful earrings here and some Jasmine oil for my hair.
We then went into the exhibit "Moroccan Style: The Art of Personal Adornment". It showcased some wonderful art and jewelry. As I've said 50 times before, I love museums and exhibits from other cultures. This was time well spent - I wouldn't have been able to enjoy this with my boys!
The detail is even in the ceiling.
Lovely stained glass
Amazing.
At this point, I almost felt like we were really in Morocco.
Touched and stared at this for a while.
Where am I??
Oh yeah - in Disney World
I zoomed in here so you can really see the amazing detail. Just beautiful.
It really feels like you're there!
I wanted all of this!
Dinner time at the Tangierine Cafe...
Even at the counter service!
Chicken Shawarma Platter - served with side of Hummus, Tabouleh and a Tangierine Couscous Salad with fresh Moroccan bread
So good and a great value! I got 2 glasses of Spanish wine I had asked for the white, but the Moroccan cast member must not have understood and poured the red. The other cast member told him his mistake, but with the international sign language of shrugged shoulders ("Whatevs") he poured me the white. Yay me! Katie got the same plate and said this was her favorite meal of the trip - it was very good.
Next, a oui bit of time in France. (See what I did there? lol)
This tres chic lady let me take her picture.
We browsed the wine shop and got this:
Champagne cocktail with blueberry liqueur
Oh yeah, feeling fancy now!
A little shopping in Japan...
My favorite store in Disney World.
My sons are into Japanese Manga and Anime. Like a lot. I sent them these pics to see if they wanted anything.
Too "girly"
Not what they're looking for, but they like Bleach.
They wanted this of course.
...they got these playing cards instead.
Nothing washes down Moroccan food and French champagne better than sake
Kouki was so cute! He was very patient with us and answered all 57 questions we had about sake, as neither one of us had ever had any. He explained each sake in detail as we tried them. The gold one was sweet and kind of a thicker consistency. Katie thought it was like cough syrup, lol, but I liked it. I said it must be for after dinner and he said I was right The middle cloudy one was very nice, not harsh with a good flavor. Kouki said it was special because it was unfiltered and had rice in it (hence the cloudiness) and you can taste it very subtly. The last one was for the big boys and looked like moonshine. I sipped thinking it was going to burn and sprout some hair on my chest. It wasn't like that at all! It was like a very smooth rum, without the burn. He said this was a good one for eating bar foods with friends. I bought the cloudy one and some sweet rice snacks for the kids. Let's just say that Katie wasn't a fan of sake
We had a FP+ for Illuminations, but we had enjoyed ourselves too much in Japan. Initially we were going to try to run for it, but the beer, bourbon, wine, champagne and sake changed our minds. We valiantly made it all the way to Germany and stopped there. We found a little place on the path that kind of wound back on itself and asked a family there that had staked out a great spot if we could sit next to them. I had my Glow With Show ears and put them on, making sure I wasn't going to distract anyone. I was sitting in front of some bushes, so I was okay. Of course I couldn't see them during the show, but Katie says they were doing their thing along with the music.
Ahhh... What a fabulous night! We took our time and strolled out of the park, even stopping to do some shopping.
I saw this along the path.
I picked up a FIFA keychain for a friend's son on the way out. There was FIFA soccer stuff everywhere! My family is probably the only one on the east coast not involved in soccer in anyway, but I snapped these pics for my friend at home who is a Disney fan and soccer mom.
I saw something on Facebook that I wanted to try. Fail big time! These ears are a little heavy because of the battery pack and I just couldn't do it right. I'm sure the security guards behind us at the gate were getting a good laugh - I must have tried 12 times!
We were hungry when we got back (I don't know how) so we ordered a pizza 10 minutes before room service closed. It was delivered hot with a smile and was pretty tasty!
American veggie pizza to finish out our international escapades.
Next: Katie's last day and Animal Kingdom (or doing Disney solo after your friend leaves)
Great (and early) start to your morning! Looked like you got to see a lot of Epcot that you hadn't before!!
Great pics!
it was just taking our time seeing everything.

The CMs interacting with guests is hysterical!

I had just responded to your first Epcot post when this one popped up! You really did have a fantastic day. Morocco is my favorite pavilion as well, and it's even better now, with the area along the lagoon built up. I love the glow-with-the-show ears on SE.
