Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

I am so sorry for bringing up an old thread. Really, I am. You gotta understand, this is the only forum/source of information where good advice surrounding this topic has been given and someone is actually going through the process of redeeming 15,000 points. I have been Googling "Disney Movie Rewards Studio Tour" "DMR Proof of Purchase", etc. for months and only came across speculation and people that only dreamed of it. Today for the first time I changed my search to something different (can't even remember) and I am so glad I found this post by TuffyCO. THANK YOU! I put you in as my sign-up referral, whatever that does.

Like you, I will be taking this tour. I am near 11,000 points and have been eyeing the tour from the very beginning. My question:

What about the free DMR points? These are the points that account for birthdays, anniversaries, monthly emails, "guess the word" puzzles, etc. I have nearly 2,000 of them. I currently assume that these are easily approved. Was that your experience?

By the way, when I do finally go through this process (I am estimating 1.5 - 2 years max) you better believe I'm going to photo blog everything for other folks hunting the internet for such a process. Thank you TuffyCO for the updates, your post is Google famous. Sorry again for bringing it back up!

EDIT: Also, how about movie tickets? Did you ever submit those for points? If so, did they want you to send them in? (Please no...)
No worries from me about bringing up the old thread. I figure I will update it as I continue on in this process. I did finalize my redemption and we currently have our tour scheduled for early December this year.

When I sent my proof of purchase to Disney I created a spreadsheet and that had 5 columns.

Title/Description
Points
Date Entered
Code
Proof of Purchase/Explanation

I printed out my code history from the DMR website and used that to enter the information in the first 4 columns.

For the Proof of Purchase/Explanation column I did the following:

- Had the original proof of purchase (which is the small square off the back of the DVD case, not the code sheet).
Cut off the proof of purchase and attached it to the printed spreadsheet

- Bonus Points, Online Surveys, Movie Tickets
I just typed an explanation in the proof of purchase/explanation column such as "Bonus Points", "Movie Tickets Submitted" etc. For the movie tickets as long as you had submitted them and received confirmation they were already approved.

- Did not have DVD proof of purchase but had the original code sheet (I have the Toy Story Toy Box Set and did not want to destroy the box to get the proof of purchase off)
They allowed me to send the original magic code sheets for those. They would not accept the code sheets as the main proof but in a case of a few sheets they were okay with it.

- Did not have any proof due to the DVD's having been lost/stolen (I had about 6 DVD's that were stolen from my van in 2007 and a couple just went missing).
I just listed in the proof "lost" or "stolen". They told me that as long as we had more than about 80-85% of the proof of purchase that we were fine. They do understand that stuff happens, but they expect you to have most of them.

Also, just as a side note. I was a little worried about the time frame from when I submitted them and when I had to do the tour. We submitted in the summer of 2013, but weren't planning a trip to CA until 2015. This was no problem and we have even changed the dates from January 2015 to December 2014, although I don't have our exact date as I am waiting to book our room before setting a set date.

Feel free to send me any additional questions. I also had a hard time finding any information on the process and had a lot of questions and I had to pretty much figure them out for myself.

It seems like extra hoops to jump through. When I started I inadvertently had two accounts and they merged my accounts and deleted the points I had prior to that (they had given me a limited amount of time to log in and claim them, but we were in a crazy time of life and I didn't get to do it). There's no reason they couldn't have just combined my points and saved them. To me it's just trying to avoid actually giving away prizes. At least I have all of the cases so I have all of the POPs
The proof that they would want is the proof of purchase from the DVD case, not the code sheets. They will use the code sheets in a rare instance if you do not have the DVD, but they prefer the DVD POP. So, if you have the DVD's you should be okay if you get to where you want to redeem a larger award.

They only require proof for the larger awards to make sure you actually have the DVD and didn't get code sheets from somewhere else (like ebay) The process wasn't too bad, but I was sad because I'm a little OCD and hated having to cut the small POP off the back of all my DVD's, but I'm over it now.

Thank you so much for the reply. It is extremely helpful and answered my concerns. It is funny that you used the same exact method of organizing (Excel/spreadsheet) that I am going to do. I guess with something this big, you just can't risk putting them all in a plastic bag and sending them off.

I may even purchase mailing insurance on this one.

You're going to have such an excellent time on your trip. Touring the studios is a once-in-a-lifetime experience and I know you're excited. Can't wait for your update!

I'm a little on the OCD side, so I can't imagine doing anything but a spreadsheet. The lady I talked to said they did have some people just mail them in baggies. That scares me.

I don't think I purchased insurance, because I figured there was a second POP on each DVD just in case. I did photocopy all of the sheets though before sending them.

It is a once-in-a-lifetime experience and we are so excited. I'm a little sad we had to move the dates from January to December because we had the tour scheduled on my DS's 12th birthday, but we booked a cruise for Aug 2015 and my DH thinks the time of situation would be dicey.

I wanted to update this thread for those that have been following along on how this redemption process works. We were unable to book the Grand Californian for the dates of the tour we had set in December. Thankfully, I had booked the week before Thanksgiving at the 7 month mark as a back up. We were able to get the tour moved and our tour is officially booked for November 19th, 2014. :the wave:

As soon as I finish up my TR from our recent WDW trip, I will start a PTR for this trip!!

I have around 13,000 points now and I'm looking to do the Studios tour as well.

I'm really excited for you. Also thankful for the information. I'll have to start cutting proof of purchases now if I ever want to get it done.

Awesome! When I was that close I started getting excited and nervous that they would stop having the tour.

I would recommend starting a spreadsheet now. What I did to make it easier for me was went to my Disney Movie Rewards account and you can actually pull up all the rewards you have entered. I used that to list all of the titles I entered and that made it easier for me to track down all of the PoP's from the DVD's.

You're welcome! I originally posted, hoping to find some information, but clearly those that have done this tour, have not posted on the internet. Everything has gone really smoothly and the folks working to set the tour date have been very helpful. I can't wait to share about the tour itself!
