Somebody turns 50 Celebration! The TR! 5/23-6/9/15 - UPDATED 1/13 - Page 3 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

What a great start to the trip so far. It has been a long time since I have eaten at Boatwright's but your meal looked delicious. I think the first time we ate there was when entrée and dessert was included in the regular dining plan and it was so much food...but so good. We are staying there next September so I am hoping we make it back for a meal.
And meeting Princess Sharon was the perfect way to start off your dinner
The first time we experience the dining plan ( it was not called that then) was on our honeymoon in 2000. You got appetizer, entree and dessert and the tip was included as well. It was a ton of food but we totally miss that! You really should make it back there for a meal, it was really good.
It was wonderful meeting Princess Sharon!

I am pretty sure that Starbucks/Main Street Bakery does serve some breakfast items however Jonathon can not eat those items due to a severe peanut/tree nut allergy. MK used to have counter service breakfast and they really need to bring it back.

I kinda figured that the front might be a better ride. Maybe next time we ride it.

Maybe we should start a petition to bring CS breakfast back to MK!
So I was finally able to get a DAS return time for POTC and we decided to catch the train around the park. So we headed over to the Frontierland station and got on the train after a wait. We always like the train ride. Once we circled the park it was close enough to our return time for pirates that we headed that way.
We got in line and when we went to use our DAS they had some trouble at first but then it finally worked. So we headed on in. We love this ride but after riding it this time we understood why it was being closed for refurbishment. We were seated at the very front of the boat and when we went down the little waterfall we got very very wet. We have never gotten that wet ever on this ride. We also got wet a few times from the canon fire shots as well. Just crazy.
We got off POTC and decided to do some shopping in the gift shop. I found some really cute sunglasses and decided to get two pairs as I need to replace mine. My last pair of Disney sunglasses had broke a month earlier.
It was getting close to our next FP which was BTMRR. So we headed over that way. This was kinda of confusing because the signage here is not clear. There is a FP line but there is no signage for handicap access. Finally someone helped us out with that and we found our way to the handicap access. We had to wait a few minutes but finally a CM showed up and scanned our MBs for our FP. Then lead us in to where we would enter the ride. It had been a long time since I had road on BTMRR and I did not remember it being extremely rough. But this was not an easy ride. I think it was more because of Jonathon. The lap bar comes across both riders and Jonathon is a skinny little guy. So needless to say he kept coming up out of the seat and Mike had to really hold on to him. I was so worried about him that I did not really enjoy the ride at all. This will not be a ride we will take him on any time soon again. After it was over and we got off and were standing off to the side of the exit a little ways down to figure out what to do next, I realized that he was shaking a little. So I was trying to sooth him and felt bad that the ride had upset him. I think he did much better on SDMT than this ride. It was here that I decided that coasters were not his thing and that we would wait until he was much older to take him on another one, if we did at all. He calmed down fairly quickly.
I think after this we headed back over towards Fantasyland again. I think we caught the end of the parade at this point and we made our way along the side of it going towards HM. I think we decided to stop and ride the Liberty Belle. It was rather hot this day and the breeze on the boat was nice. Jonathon however did not like the ride at all, it was too warm in the sun and the shade was near the machinery and it did not like the noise of that. So it was a rather stressful ride for him. Once we finally got off there we headed over to IASW and rode it again in hopes to relax Jonathon. It did help.
We decided to head out of the park at this point. We did do some shopping in the Emporium though before we headed out. I wanted to go back to POP and change before we headed to dinner at Kona Cafe.
We went back to POP and changed. Our dining reservation was for 6:30. We drove over to the Poly and valet parked. We got our first look at the new lobby for the Poly.
It is very nice but I still miss the original lobby and the waterfall.
We checked in and we were seated very shortly afterwards. We ordered drinks. Now this is where it was rather strange. The server told us that because Jonathon had a allergy that they could not even get him a drink until the Chef said it was ok. That is a first for us in all the years we had been coming to WDW with him. They would not even let him have some water. That was just crazy. Plus we have had breakfast here before several times and never had that happen before. Perhaps it was just this server, I am not sure. But fortunately we did not have to wait long before the Chef came by. With that done we ordered our meals.
I ordered a Pomegranate Lemonade to start, Mike got tea and we ordered Jonathon Diet Coke. Although he decided that he liked my lemonade much better. I decided to order a drink and ordered the Island Sunset. It is pictured here on the left. The Pomegranate Lemonade is on the right.
For dinner we had: Pan-Asian Noodles - Yakisoba Noodles, Wok-seared with Vegetables and your choice of Chicken or Tofu in a Ginger-Garlic Sauce; can be made vegetarian upon request; (Mike and I both got this with shrimp as it was recommended by a friend) - So so very delicious!!
Kids hotdog with french fries.
Dinner was very very good. We enjoyed it a lot. After dinner we checked out the gift shop but did not see anything that we wanted and we headed out and got the van from valet. We headed out and decided to head over to Target to pick up a few things. Mike wanted some donuts or danish for breakfast and we checked out the Disney souveniers. We ended up buying a few shirts of course and found some donuts too. With that done we headed back to POP. We called it a night at this point, it was somewhere near 10 and we had had a full day. I do not recall Jonathon having any trouble getting to sleep this night. I think we all crashed early.

Beautiful tree skirt! Sorry Jonathon didn't like the coasters, but then I'm only willing to do the small ones myself, and I'm pretty much once and done. Dinner at Kona looked very delicious.
Great start, Kim! It was really great to meet you, Mike and Jonathon (loved his Goofy t-shirt! ). Sounds like the trip is going well for you guys so far. It seems like Jonathon doesn't like the coasters much, but there's always IASW! And I'm so glad you guys finally got to meet talking Mickey! I feel your pain with the lack of counter service breakfast options at the MK. Sadly, it's the same story at all the parks. If you don't want pastries, you'll have a hard time finding breakfast, so I've started getting something at the resort before heading out.

It was so great to me you! Yes IASW is one of his favs! Yes the counter service breakfast thing is a real pain. We have decided to just bring some cereal, a bowl and a spoon for him with us. I am sure we can find milk somewhere. Then Mike and I can grab the pastries or waffles or whatever. Jonathon seems to have an aversion to eating breakfast at the resort when we go to Disney. LOL I think he wants to get to the parks first.
