Make your choice Adventurous Stranger...A Goin Solo PTR - Page 29 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Your PTR plans for Dec look great! Great idea to eat at the resorts so you can explore the decorations! November/December is a great time to visit WDW (next to the F&WF of course).
Gotta love that gift card wrist thing! I am glad I got one on my first F&WF trip. Keeping up with it after a few AB's was easier that way!
Thanks! My only gripe with the wrist card thingy was you had to remove it for them to scan. I know, I'm nit picking but a scanner or that technology where you can pass it over something so it registers would also help with fuzzy AB brain. Besides, I usually have only one hand free (prob holding previous ab) and it becomes difficult to remove the wrist thingy without spillage.
Oh, that reminds me. I was in the wine store the other day (shock and awe) and spotted one of those gadgets that clips on your plate and has a curly thing that holds your glass. I wonder if that would work with the little plate and itty bitty glasses for the F&WF. Hmmm.... Now that would be a cool souvie! Disney, you listening???

I agree, it would be way cooler if they could just scan it on your wrist... less chance of me losing it. I get tipsy from one AB so I drop more things, LOL

I saw some of those not too long ago. I think that would be a perfect souvie. Or bring one with you to see if it works.

I do agree with that... especially after a few AB's and your still holding one. Its like, can't ya just scan the thing while its still on my arm?? Cheese and Rice!!
That clip thingy sounds awesome! Maybe you should try it out and give Disney the idea! If it works, everyone will want to know where you got it!!
I'll be doing an update soon but wanted to send out love and a big hug to all PPers in the path of Irene. I'm not sure how bad it's going to be, maybe she'll make a hard turn to the East. Either way, don't fool with Mother Nature, be prepared and if you're evacuating, please take your animals.
A special hug to my Jersey Shore peeps (and I don't mean Snooki). Talked with folks in Seaside and evacuation starts tonite. The Garden State Parkway is being closed from exit 98 down - that's about 100 miles of road (also my old exit).
Happy to report this Jersey PP made it fine - didn't even kill my son when we were holed up together for 24 hours.
I am very excited to hear from you. My GF in Long Branch kept me updated hourly and made it ok too. I cannot say the same for friends and family further North. Massive flooding has cost one his home, several to rebuild and most still without power.
Okay...so I'm joining in on this shindig!!! Let the party begin! Anyway, it looks like you are going to have a blast on your solo trip, and I'm sad that I'll be missing your Jolly Holiday trip by like 4 days. Bummer.
I realized I have not posted in a while, definitely have some Disney items to post about but I would rather take this opportunity to say I HATE MY JOB!!!! Let me clarify that - my full time job. Not only is it slow but the office situation has become unbearable.
I'll try to keep it short and sweet. Basically, there are four of us in my department with only enough work for two. We really only need three people - two full time and one p/t to close at night and work Saturdays. There was a slacker in our dept. and he had trouble doing his job at night so my boss decided (after repeated attempts by myself and Jennie #1 and then the boss to get him to do his job) to give him an opportunity AKA a promotion. I voiced to my boss how I felt kicked around and crapped on by this.
Fast forward a few weeks later and HR had gone to my boss and reminded him to reward his people for doing a good job - oh yeah, and they've been working for two years without a pay increase. At first, I thought this was my boss' idea "I want you to know how much I appreciate you" bs. I later came to find out it was HR putting the idea in his head.
FF another two weeks. Star Slacker and his new promotion decide to leave work early without telling anyone and this ticked off the big boss ALOT. Big boss called our dept last Wed morning looking for him, when he found out that Slacker didn't arrive until 11am he asked for his digits. That's never good. Next thing we know, Slacker called out for the day. Ok, we still have Slacker Jr. (Slacker Sr.'s roomate and best friend) but 11am comes and goes, no sign. Jr. stolls in 20 minutes late blaming his tardiness on Sr. because he called out and DIDN'T WAKE HIM UP!!! Are you serious???? You don't set an alarm?? Are you Five??? So he has a talk with our boss.
FF one hour. Slacker Jr. gets a phone call on his cell and runs outta the room - phone calls and cig breaks happen routinely with the Slackers so no big news there. Wrong! Seems Slacker Sr. was fired!! For repeat tardiness (he's been written up before) and then leaving early the night before. In a "it's not my fault" trend, Sr. immediately blames Jr. for getting him fired. You see, Sr. got a DUI (usually grounds for dismissal when you work at a CAR DEALERSHIP) back in October and has been hitching rides with Jr. Maybe that's the trade off, Jr. drives Sr. to work / Sr. wakes Jr. up. Either way, no one takes any responsibility for their actions.
Our boss is in a prickly mood due to the big boss going over his head (um, that's why he is the big boss) and firing Sr. He tells me that all personal items, pictures and anything that brings joy to the office needs to be taken down and/or removed. This means my WDW Countdown and Ear Hat ornament!! To say I was PO'd was a gross understatement.
Wait, it gets better. sometime on Wed afternoon Slacker Sr. sneaks in the back door, enters the office and proceeds to remove everything from his desk. He slams things around and has the look of death on his face. These items included about 40+ toys (yes, like happy meal toys) off the top of his desk. "We don't want to let our work areas become like that" is what my boss says. Hence, no joy.
Being my usual polite self, I say hello as I walk past (it was already awkward) and he turned around to spew words of hate towards Jennie #1 and myself. He blamed us for getting him fired (wait thought Jr. did) and that we talked about him behind his back (true) and then he says he knows we are jealous of his promotion - our boss told him I went to him and said this. HOLD UP!!! Two things: 1. I am nor was I jealous of his promotion. Hurt and upset that someone who could not do the job he was hired for getting a promotion because (as my boss said) has a road block in his brain and wasn't able to complete the tasks, yes. Jealous, no. 2. If he knew about my meeting with my boss about my feelings towards his promotion, that means my boss said screw confidentiality and told Slacker about it. DISS!!!!
I must tell you folks. I have a BAD temper. I can keep it in check most of the time and with the help of therapy and time, I can control it. However, there are a few things that really flip my switch. One is confrontation. I love it, relish it but know I need to step away when presented with it. My instant reaction to being blamed for his dismissal - or being verbally attacked (does a wagging index finger count as a physical attack?) was "I am gonna rip you a new one with one hand tied behind my back and not even break a nail." Fortunately, the skills I have learned kicked in and I shut my trap and walked out.
The other thing that gets my goat is lying. My boss lied to me that the meeting was between us and confidential. WRong! He also lied that I was jealous. No, he didn't listen, upset, hurt and frustrated. NOT jealous. Besides, what was I to be jealous about now, Slacker up and got himself fired.
After I calmed down, I returned to find Jennie #1 in tears. HR had come in and told everyone Slacker Sr. was not to be allowed on property. His rant, however continued on Facebook - love that delete button.
So the wrap up occured on Friday during a meeting with my boss, Jennie #1, Slacker Jr. and me. At which time Jr. said he doesn't blame Sr. for believing it was ME that got him fired. REALLY??? Then my boss started babbling something about how he felt a connection with Slacker Sr. and had to help guide him and present opportunities to someone who had a horrible childhood. Then he really starts spitting out crap, saying there are no victims. The following is no lie: he states that rapists hide in bushes so women shouldn't walk near bushes at night. Women that are raped usually hand out with unsavory people. Drunk drivers - they only drive late at night, so if you are on the road late, you are looking to get hit. After that all I heard was "blah, blah, blah" you see, my brother in law's sister was riding in a car two years ago with her husband and 12 year old daughter - at lunch time. Explain why he is no longer on this earth and Sherri is disabled and explaining to her children why there are only three of them now. I was livid.
Now you know why I have been unable to post, my happiness level is at 0. I haven't uttered more that 20 words at work the past 2 days. It's horrible. I am very sorry to unload this dirt on you but it actually feels good to get it out. I also apologize for it being so long but I am normally long winded and being quiet for the past two days is killing me. I'll probably start talking to myself soon.
Wow, that is all super-cruddy (trying to keep my language family-board appropriate). Sounds like your boss also deserves the boot! Hope things get better for you soon. Would it help to have a talk with HR? Seems like some lines were crossed that HR should be aware of.
Just started reading your TR (or PTR, or PTR x2), lol.
So sorry that work sucks, I have been in situations where the bosses were no good and to feel unsupported by the higher-ups is never a fun situation.
Hope you get it all worked out. Go home and hug Mushu.
That just SUCKS! I don't blame you for being livid. Jr and Sr are jerks (insert worse name calling here) and your boss is an ignorant fool. Can't you go to HR or Employee Assistance (or a lawyer) for harassment? Can't they be flogged for stupidity? Now I'M livid! You sound so much like me - I HATE LIARS! (and drunks. I was assaulted by a drunk - who only got a $250 fine and 6 weeks probation for assaulting a health care worker yet I got a permanent and recurring pain in the back!) Sorry I just got into a rant. I hope it gets better Jennie!

I appreciate your comments, Thank you! I did think about going to HR but it is so political in this company, I'd wonder if it would backfire and make the situation worse. I had this happen when I was 19 and harrassed by my boss (who was married to the President's daughter - same situation as now) and not only was nothing done about it but a few months later I was let go. It was the ONLY time I ever lost a job.
Ok, unless things get worse, I'll leave my rant behind.
