As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

I completely agree with all your comments/suggestions. Although I didn't know the Navigator was down to 2 pages. It was still 4 last time we sailed, although in fairness that was July 2015.
I was surprised to not see some design changes on the Dream category ships, as from the first time we sailed on the Magic in 2000, we thought it was crazy having the basketball court over the spa area.
I completely agree with all your comments/suggestions. Although I didn't know the Navigator was down to 2 pages. It was still 4 last time we sailed, although in fairness that was July 2015.
I don't know if it's bigger on longer itineraries maybe, but it definitely still down to just two pages on our recent four night cruise.

Well, I guess they shunted it down to being above Remy's, which is something. I just wish they could find some way of not having noisy things above adult areas.

Every other cruise line seems to do that except Disney. I just don't get why they don't change.
You have some very valid points in your comments to DCL, but too bad you didn't get a response from them!

Thursday 29 September – part five: the “human tank” all seem to be from Georgia…
Now, I had been looking forward to dinner at Animator’s Palate so much. The couple we’d met on the first night were there, but apparently the other couple, who had been there the last couple of nights, wouldn’t be joining us tonight, as they were at Palo, so we never got to meet them at all. I got some photos when we arrived:
For appetiser, I went for the black truffle pasta purseittes, as I knew I’d enjoyed them before. They were nearly as good, but tasted a little heavy tonight, but that could be because I’d eaten so much for brunch at Palo.
Mark had the smoked salmon tartar with dill, capers, onions, pickles and a horseradish cream, and again I knew he’d enjoyed that before. Funny how we keep sticking to what we know and like. In truth, I don’t like the fact that we remember so much of the menu from our previous cruises. I wish they’d start to change it around a bit to provide a bit of excitement for repeat cruisers.
For soup or salad, I really didn’t want the creamy butternut squash soup (I tried it last time and wasn’t overly impressed with it ) or the baked potato and cheddar cheese soup, as it came with bacon bits and chives, and it felt too heavy. I could hardly have the arugula leaves, as they don’t agree with me, and the final option, which we’ll get to in a minute, had meat, so I told Leo there was nothing I fancied. Like a good server, he didn’t take that for an answer, and asked if I wanted the cream of mushroom soup from the children’s menu, so I agreed to that, and it wasn’t bad.
Mark had the final option on this part of the menu, the chicken and walnut salad with craisins, red onions and a cranberry dressing, although he also told me this had apples in it, so even if it was without chicken, I’d still have been unable to eat it.
Finally, the show started, and I did think it was a bit late into the meal, as I was wondering when it would get underway. I decided to use the sports setting on my camera, as photos of Crush always seem to come out as blurred. I got some mixed results, as you’ll see:
We discovered from Crush’s inquisition of those in the “human tank” that apparently our table was about the only one not from Georgia… and then we were told the other couple on the table were from Georgia! We asked our table mates if they had a school holiday in Georgia around this time of the year, and apparently they do. Ah well, that explains it then..
I also got a few photos of some of Crush’s friends, as they floated around…
We loved Animators Palate!. Crush is just too funny!! I wish Royal Caribbean would rotate restaurants like Disney does. Fun!! Your pictures came out wonderful!!

That's pretty funny that so many people were from Georgia! And the pictures did turn out pretty well - I"m sure that's hard to try and capture. Need a good camera for that!

That is one of the things I do love about Disney Cruise Line. I know the food menu doesn't change that often for repeat cruisers and I complain about that plenty, but I love the restaurant rotation.

I have only cruised on DCL once but I can tell you that RCCL switched over to the number of nights system and everyone seems pretty happy with that!
