As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

Unless you work in education you really don't "get it". Teachers have to differentiate instructions for a huge percentage of their class. Adhere to their IEP's or 504 Plans while trying to provide higher level instruction to those students that need it. All of this under the guise that it is supposed to be seamlessly done. Not to mention teaching before and after school each day to those students that need extra help or were absent from school. Then there is their professional development to keep up with. Preparing students for state testing, answering parent emails and last but not least - oh yea they have to prepare their curriculm and TEACH! don't even get me started...ok, done venting. oh and you looked marvelous in your dress

DH is a teacher and I'm not sure he would have kept his cool as well as Luke did. Even though I work for Social Services, he still works so much harder and longer than I do.
It occurs to me after seeing your pics that I didn't get to draw a character on the Dream in AP. Is that only on the Magic?

I'm not sure about the character drawings at AP. We were on a 7 night cruise so that might have made a difference as the first time we ate at AP, we had the regular show.

You have summed up the rigors of the profess quite well. I really don't miss the piles essays for grading I was always swamped with because those consumed a lot of my at home time. But I did love my job.
I love the black dress & Luke's tie is so fun! :-) Sorry about the women at the show! I'm surprised they weren't escorted out but I do think the one had Luke's comments on her mind the entire show. If she didn't, I doubt she would have approached you to apologize.
I awoke just minutes before the alarm was set to go off at 9:00. I peeked out the door to the verandah, and noticed that we were already docked at Castaway Cay. I started getting ready for a day at the beach, and eventually, Luke got up and ready, too! I took a few pictures from the verandah of the crew at work and the Christmas decorations on the island.
We ate breakfast at Cabana’s, and then returned to the room to pack our beach bag for the day. We walked to the aft elevators and then we down to Deck 1 and it’s gangway. We stopped shortly afterwards for a photo at the Christmas tree and a little later for one with the ship in the background.
We kept walking toward the Family Beach as it was somewhat sheltered from the chilly morning sea breezes. We did stop at She Sells Seashells where we both got t-shirts (Luke – short sleeve; Cam – long sleeve), as well as some postcards and a Castaway Cay pin. We found two lounge chairs with an umbrella and set ourselves up. Luke tested the water first, telling me that I’d probably be frozen if I went in. Eventually, I got hot lying in the chair and ventured to the water. It was sooooo COLD! I didn’t get passed my ankles. So back to the lounge chair for me. At some point, Luke went back in with the goal of making it far enough in to cover his shoulders. He met his goal, but didn’t linger long.
Ahhhh, Castaway Cay, paradise.....

The Dream doesn't have the animation option in Animators Palate. It began on the Fantasy and was added to the Magic during its major renovation (when they added the Aquadunk).
Oh wow, Luke is brave to venture out into the cold water! I'm used to cold New England water, but at a tropical island you want water that is a comfortable temperature!
That island is so beautiful. Can't get enough of that clear, blue water. I've never been there when the water was cold, though! I've only been in early October and in late May and it was warm both times.

I wasn't expecting the water to be that cold, especially since at Cozumel it had been only cool when I stepped in the water.

Luke and I have been able to walk a few days in the past couple of weeks as the weather here has been a roller coaster ride with a couple of warms days followed by 4 or 5 frigid days. Each time we've walked the wind has been gusting as it was on our Castaway Cay day. We've been wondering where those breezes are when we walk on hot days. Too bad we can't save them up for then. A little bit later this day, we'll be glad of the breeze.
What a gorgeous day!!!! Shame the water was too cold though. In October 2013 I found it chilly and didn't get in past my waist, but that didn't stop the kids (Mike & Dylan ) from the slide!
