Happy 10 Years - The Anniversary of our "Dreams" TR - Page 28 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

What a nice Epcot day. I hope to do Rose and Crown for dinner on my next visit and of course hope to be able to sit on the patio but nice to know you can still get VIP viewing just eating there. and love the idea of the cab from Beach club
Dinner at R&C sounded delicious! I have that one in my plans for June. I read in another tr that they no longer accept seating requests. So I'll just cross my fingers and hope for the best.
I'll keep my fingers crossed that you get a patio seat too! If not, the viewing area they had was great, so at least you know you'll get a great spot even if they seat you inside.

This was our first time at R&C, but we really liked it so I'm sure it will be going on our list for future trips!

It was a great night, and getting back to POR so quick in a nice, quiet cab was a perfect ending

It was so strange because the phones still had a dial tone when you picked up the receiver, but when I tried dialing the numbers listed I got a recording saying that I had reached a disconnected number I'm hoping that it was just a temporary thing.

Other than the ash and smoke, it was a great view of Illuminations.

The time you save not waiting with the crowds makes the high price of the cabs so worth it! From now on we are going to add some "cab fare" to our spending money budget for our trips, just in case.

Great idea about the cab! Closing is always too much for me!
The crowds at closing get to be a bit much for me too, so I'm glad I had the idea about the cab!

I enjoyed R&C when I went with Dana, though I wish I had gone with the fish and chips instead of the cottage pie.
Sounds like it was a nice afternoon wandering the WS. Great idea about the cab. Sometimes standing in line for the bus is the absolute worst thing ever.
The fish and chips were delicious, try them the next time you are at R&C!
I agree, after a long and tiring day, seeing a huge line at the bus stop is just the worst thing ever.

The same thing happened to us. We sat inside but ended up watching Illuminations from the VIP section on the patio. Good idea getting a cab from BC!
I'm glad that they have that viewing area, it makes up for not being a lucky one to get a patio seat!

We really enjoyed the R&C, we will definitely be back one day. I hope you like it too!

Sounds like a nice time at Epcot. I've always wanted to try R&C. Maybe someday it will make the list...
This was our first time at R&C, and we really liked it. I've been wanting to try it for a while now, but it never seemed to make the cut. I'm so glad we gave it a try this time!

We were up bright and early at 6:30 today, we had an early breakfast ADR at the Crystal Palace to get to. We showered and dressed, heading out to the bus stop around 7:15. As we got closer to the stop I could hear a bus pulling up, but couldn’t see it. When it finally came into view I realized it was a MK bus, so we hauled butt and ran a little to catch it. Just how I like to start off my early morning, with a nice jog. Not!
I’m glad we made it on to that bus, we arrived at the MK nice and early around 7:40. That would give us plenty of time to stroll around an empty Main Street since our ADR was not until 8:15.
We were surprised to see that all of the fall decorations had been put up since our last visit to the MK on Sunday night.
Sorry, some of them are blurry. My lens kept fogging up from the humidity!
We stopped for a few Photopass pics before checking in for breakfast.
It was still before 8 at this point, but we headed over to the CP to get checked in. The restaurant wasn’t even open yet, and there were lots of people sitting on the benches waiting. I got in line behind 4 or 5 people to wait to check in, thinking we would have a wait ahead of us. Check in went smoothly and I joined the rest of my family to wait to be seated. I figured we’d have a wait since our ADR wasn’t until 8:15, and surely all of these other people waiting had checked in before us and would be seated first, right?
Well, a couple of minutes after I sat down the restaurant was officially opened, all of the servers came out clapping and cheering, and they may have sang a little song too. It was really cute. One gentleman announced that he was happy to welcome the first family of the day to CP. I’m sure I had a huge look of surprise on my face when he announced, “The Knott Family”. I’m not sure if it had to do with our anniversary celebration that we had noted on our reservation or not, but we were led into the restaurant first and seated at a nice table on the right hand side of the buffet. There was Mickey confetti strewn about our table, and our server wished Chris and I Happy Anniversary. It was a nice surprise to start off the day!
The chef came out to speak with us, and then took Chris and I on a walk along the buffet. There were only a few things off limits for Kaeli, the usual suspects like the baked goods and granola. All in all, it was a great meal! We’ve only done dinner at the CP before, so breakfast was a nice change of pace. Mostly everything was good, I was just a little disappointed in my omelet. It was more like an egg burrito, with the eggs being scrambled and folded around the veggies I chose for the filling. The eggs were just ok, and I’m used to the cheese and filling being cooked inside of the eggs, not just placed in the middle. I had heard a lot about the breakfast lasagna too, but none of us tried it. I'm not really sure what I was expecting it to be, but it was a peculiar looking dish, just a mish mash of different breakfast foods. Not really my taste at all. :
We finished up and settled the bill, stopping for a quick bathroom break before heading out to Frontierland for some morning rides.
How neat to experience an undecorated and a decorated park all in one trip! Sounds like a nice little breakfast. And how special that you got to be the first ones in the restaurant.
I am guessing all the people around you guys in the photos also had CP reservations? That is alot of people strolling around before opening.
Love the pics! The girls look so happy! Which, who wouldn't be? Right?
Glad you enjoyed breakfast. It is my #1 on my list for next year. We have never eaten there.
So sweet being Family of the Day at CP. That was a nice surprise. We are early birds like you guys and I have started to notice most of the restaurants do a little something before they opened..........we saw them sing Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride at Ohana with all the servers once, and the opening of Casey's they choose a kid to throw the first ball and then hand out Cracker Jacks. Those little things are really nice.
Sorry your meal was just eh. We have decided no more breakfasts buffet's for us. I always leave feeling eh too. I would much rather have a dinner buffet since we are good with coffee, yogurt and a banana in the AM.
So much for strolling up an empty Main St. There were quite some people there. Guess everyone had the same idea. Anyways, sounds like a pretty good breakfast. Sorry your omelet wasn't what you hoped for. Did you eat the chocolate Mickey waffles? I think CP is the only place to find them.
Nice to start the day with two surprises-- the newly-decorated park and being "family of the day" at CP. I didn't know they did that! I've only had breakfast at CP (and I'm one who likes the very odd breakfast lasagna!) but will try dinner on my next trip. I agree with you about the omelets there. The plain scrambled eggs are better, I think. Nice photopass and character pics!
