Southern Fried in Mickey's World Updated 12/31 - Page 28 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Mexican food and no Margaritas! Pretty much sacrilegious! But still a great meal as I know how much you and Luke enjoy your Mexican food as you frequent a Mexican eatery each week in Owensboro that you love so much!
Our servers at Real Hacienda here in Owensboro would agree with you.

My TR from my most recent trip is now underway. Includes: Universal Studios Florida, Disney World and Sea World Orlando Trifecta TR -Updated December 10th! TR is now COMPLETED!
I preface this update and all the updates to follow the remainder of the trip with the warning that I quit taking profuse notes and just jotted down some highlights each night in my planner. I will be piecing the rest of the trip together with those brief notes, my photos, the saved receipts and whatever is left of my memory now going on two months later.
Based on the time data for my first photo as we entered Animal Kingdom, I’m guessing we got up around 7:30 again and followed with our usual morning routine. I do remember entering the temporary bag check area set up to the left as we entered Animal Kingdom because someone else noticed an open table and began herding folks that way only to discover that it was for cast members only. I was thankful I was skirting around these folks and headed to a security officer who could actually clear me to enter the park.
We had a little time before we needed to enter a FastPass queue, so that gave me a few moments to explore the Oasis as we made our way into the park. I love finding the animals tucked away here. First was the Muntjac who was hiding beneath a plant, but I was not to be deterred. I got down on his level.
Then we discovered a pair of macaws perched where they could observe us.
We now made our way straight to our first FastPass of the day -- Kilimanjaro Safaris. The photo data from my camera shows that we were on the ride shortly after our FastPass time of 9:35. Good going! As we waited in the queue right before heading down to the trucks, I looked to the right and noticed some of the theming I’ve usually missed.
Within a few minutes we were aboard our truck and heading off for animal sighting adventures. We immediately saw a black rhino, though he had his head tucked behind a tree.
As our truck moved forward, we noticed a couple of Eastern Bongos. One of them was stoically standing right on the truck path. Eventually, this one tired of the road and headed up into the trees.
When we entered the area where I knew the hippos would be, I began craning my neck for a good shot. Our truck driver saw the hippo first and directed all of us to look to the right as one of the hippos was partially out of the water resting his head on the little island. He was so cute, but you’ll have to believe me because the gentleman on the other side of the truck moved right into my shot as I took it, and there were no second chances as our truck was already accelerating away. Just imagine as you look at my photo that the hippo’s head is out of the water resting sweetly on the rock.
From the hippos we arrived at the Nile crocodile habitat where several were sunning themselves this morning.
At this point, my excitement builds as I know the savanna is just ahead, and the savanna means GIRAFFES. Soon enough I was seeing an adult giraffe with a baby sitting nearby in the grass. Cool!
Then on my left were the Painted Dogs, up and moving around their habitat. They were moving toward the back, but I did get a few good photos before they were again hidden.
Next in our travels were the Sable Antelope, grazing not far from the Painted Dogs.
From here we were momentarily back near the giraffes. This time they were on my side of the truck! Woo Hoo!
We got very lucky when our driver announced that one of the mandrills was out and moving around. He was a big, beautiful monkey.
Our truck brought us around into elephant country where a number were out, having breakfast. Yummy hay!
Lately, when we enter the white rhino area, they are all lazing off to the right of the truck, too far away for me to get a decent photo. But today they were gathered on the left side close enough for a couple of good photos.
Another normally elusive animal is the Cheetah. They usually lounge far back in the shade of their habitat blending in very well with their surroundings. I find myself squinting into the far recesses in hopes of just a glimpse. Luke found one very quickly this morning moving up by the fence at the back. I twisted around and aimed the camera, hoping in the end I’d have a halfway decent photo. I clicked twice and managed a great one with the first photo. The second is a little blurry. But I got to watch a cheetah walk around. Cool!
The same was not true when we reached the lions who both appeared to be taking a morning siesta. They are still such regal creatures even in sleep. I wonder if they look like angelic lions when they sleep. Ha Ha!
Our safari adventures were drawing to a close when we saw a wart hog.
Having enjoyed our safari and all its many animals, we headed back into Africa, ready to have some breakfast ourselves.
Looks like you scored again on KS with some great photos! Love the one of the lioness taking a snooze as they spend quite a bit of their day doing this!

We really enjoy the Macaw show that they present in front of the Tree of Life in the mornings! Your safari had some nice action and how nice that you got to see the baby giraffe with its mama! We had one of the best safari rides that we've ever experienced last week.

Thanks! I love getting the lions awake or asleep.

The macaw show is done several times during the day as we got to see it late morning on this particular day of our trip. Love to hear that you had such an awesome safari.
As we passed through Africa on our way to Creature Comforts, I stopped for a photo of one of my favorite Animal Kingdom views. The view from the bridge over to the newest part of Africa and Festival of the Lion King seems so calm and peaceful to me.
On our approach to Creature Comforts aka Starbucks, Luke pointed up to the sign on the side of the building and asked me if I had ever noted the monkey holding a mug of coffee. Yeah! Another new detail just waiting for us to discover it.
Luke ordered a Bacon, Gouda, and Egg on Ciabatta with a Venti Mocha Frappuccino while I selected something different all the way around – a Mickey Head cinnamon bun with Tall Berry Hibiscus. Both turned out to be very delicious. We found a rock in the shade and sat to enjoy our meal, and then, as I usually do, I checked out the Tamarin monkeys. The two that were out today were fairly inactive, tucked up in crook of the tree.
We had some time before our second FastPass and decided to use that time exploring around the Tree of Life before traveling to Asia. Somehow we never manage to see every creature tucked away here on every trip, and I think, that is part of the fun of exploring Animal Kingdom. First up were the African Crested Porcupines, snoozing in their little cave.
Our next discovery was the Giant Galapagos Tortoise, and for the first time every there were lots of them in the habitat. We counted six, but thought there might have been one more.
As we passed this river, Luke pointed out the purple flowers on the lily pads. Those sunglasses are a blessing.
The trail brought us around to the Tree of Life, which I love to photograph as much as the castle and Spaceship Earth. The light here was interesting, especially when Luke pointed out that I could capture the sun through some of the branches. I took a couple with my cell phone, too, and this is now my lock screen.
One final shot of a yellow flowering bush that captured my eye.
