A Magical voyage across the pond LIVE UPDATE 9/30 - Page 27 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

You’re knocking things off your checklist left and right.
What you received in the mail does seem a little off, but as you say if there’s an issue, they can sort it out on the ship. I wonder how many other passengers are staying on for the Canada cruise?!

PassPorter's Free-Book to Walt Disney World It’s hard to believe anything is free at Walt Disney World; but there are actually a number of things you can get or do for little to no cost. This e-book documents over 200 free or cheap tips to do before you go and after you arrive. You could save a considerable amount of money following these tips. Perhaps more importantly; you can discover overlooked attractions and little-known details most people whiz by on their way to spend money. Click here to see free sample pages from the e-book! Get this popular e-book free of extra charges when you join the PassPorter's Club for as little as $4.95. A club pass includes access to all our other e-books; e-worksheets; super-size photos; and more! This e-book is also available for separate purchase in the PassPorter Online Store for just $5.95.
Quite odd with the cruise documents and seems like they sent two of the same by accident! I'd contact them to get the other one in your hands before your cruise as better than trying to sort it out on board as I don't think you really want to deal with this on board as time to enjoy the cruise! Considering all the beverage seminars and activities you'll be attending on the Magic and depending when you try to get this sorted out it may be just after one of these seminars!
I'm sure you'll get it done. Perhaps, your "Evil" Travel Agent Sara could help you with this as well!

You’re knocking things off your checklist left and right.

I know there are a couple on the Facebook group who are. It will be interesting to find out!
Hmmmm, that is strange with the cruise documentation. Maybe worth a phone call to check on it?
Well they haven't charged us two lots of Disney Vacation Club points for this cruise and that would be about my only concern, having received two lots of documentation.
As for the documents for our second cruise, don't go there about those... that's all I'm going to say.

Honestly? I'm not bothered at all. All you really need the cruise documents for are the luggage tags and, as we're back to back cruising and our luggage is staying on board, that's not an issue.
Pre-trip report – part twenty eight: some good things, some not so good…
We’re now less than a month out from the Transatlantic cruise and it’s all starting to happen… some of it good, some of it not so good.
The not so good is that there have been cancellations of some shore excursions. That showed up on the Facebook group and that poor woman had a cancellation for both Cobh, Ireland and Halifax, Canada, apparently on the grounds of “quality control”. However, someone in the Facebook group rang Disney Cruise Line and they were told that the real reason is that the vendor cancelled, which sounds more like it to me. It turns out Mari and Raleigh are also impacted, as they were due to be on the same tour – the Historical Pub Tour.
I must admit when I finally got into my emails (my provider had been having one or two issues, shall we say? ), I was dreading finding a message about one of our excursions, but thankfully we were in the clear. Phew!
No definite news on the open bars for the Transatlantic as of yet, but we are all set for New York City to Quebec City – well set enough to have paid for them anyway. We’re still waiting on dates, but hopefully whatever date it is will be fine, as it will be on an at sea day and the only thing we currently have planned for those is one Palo brunch. I’m sure they won’t schedule an open bar at the same time as they do brunch. Famous last words… hopefully not!
And good news on the Palo group brunch on the Transatlantic cruise as well. Our Facebook group was able to get the private dining room for each of the sea days – five in total (four crossing the Atlantic and one the day before we get off) and we’re now on the final day of the Transatlantic crossing, so please keep those fingers crossed that the weather is kind to us! I do not want to miss this.
We’ll be in the private dining room, which we were in before on the inaugural Med cruise when Deb Wills invited us to join her group for dinner. Back then, I don’t think we even knew there was a private dining room! It would have been a superb night, but for the weather. I don’t think Mark even made it to the dining room and I lasted through appetiser and that was it. The movement of the ship was too much for me. Sadly, because Palo is on one of the top decks and at the back, you really do feel it there. That’s why I’m hoping for calm seas that day….
One rather nice thing that they’re doing for the Transatlantic cruise is that someone’s created a button for all the members of the Facebook group who want one. We’ve signed up, as they were very reasonably priced – only 50c each, although I had to add another 30c to cover the cost of the fact I’m paying in pounds, as PayPal charge foreign transaction fees. Even so, I think that’s really reasonable. We’ll be picking them up from the Promenade Lounge on the afternoon of disembarkation day, so we can hopefully meet a few people from the group, which will be really nice. Honestly, I am so grateful to all the people who’ve taken things like this on and organised things.
Elsewhere, I’ve been talking to Mari about the time we’ll be spending together before we head down to the Magic. She was asking what we’d be doing during their very short stay with us, so I explained and told her not to forget her Royal Oak (National Trust) membership. She’s promised me it’s already with the passports, so will be coming with them. She was saying that there are so many places in England she wants to visit (they have already visited Scotland and Ireland recently) that it may take a few trips. We told her she might be better off coming over for six months to get it all in!
The latest post in the New York City to Quebec City cruise Facebook group is that there are apparently about 100 staterooms still empty. Now we’re talking just over a month before that cruise is about to set sail, so at this stage, it’s certainly not full. Obviously, between now and then, they may fill up, but frankly with that many empty now, I’m not sure that Disney will be heading out of the Big Apple with a full sailing, but I have been known to be wrong before…
Next: Disney continue to amaze and astound… and not in a good way!
Being in those FB groups has really paid off, with the open bar events and the private dining room at Palo. Hopefully the seas will be calm enough that you will be able to enjoy your brunch!
Wow, that’s a lot of empty rooms. Ah, if only I had unlimited vacation days....
Well, unlimited funds or DVC points would also be needed I guess.
Glad your excursions weren’t impacted.
Oh no, cancelled excursions! I'm glad you guys weren't affected, but that really stinks for Mari and Raleigh, and others! Maybe they can just re-create their own historical pub tour.....
Awesome news on the private dining room, assuming it's great weather!
And I don't know, an extra 30c for the button may just break the bank. Per person!

Glad to hear that none of your excursions were cancelled. How wonderful that your Facebook group organized the Palo brunches in the private dining room! The Facebook buttons are a great way to organize the group for people to know who is actually part of the group on the ship! Your cruise is right around the corner now!
