The Promise of Spring: F&GF 4.0 UPDATED: 5/11 - Page 27 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Quite a few upcoming rumored changes in WDW on the attraction front and hope these are improvements we will be happy with! I know a lot of people who don't like Ellen's Adventure at UOE but I've always enjoyed this attraction. As DL has already added GOTG via replacing there TOT, I won't be surprised if GOTG finds a home in WDW as well but I think it would fit better in Studios! Just don't replace TOT here as I will be quite irked if this happens as one of my favorite WDW attractions and one I must ride every trip! Just so many changes!
I've always like Ellen's Energy Adventure, too. But the fat that it hasn't been refurbished in years has made me wonder how much longer it would last. I'm with you -- "Do NOT mess with my Tower of Terror!"

Luke read this about the same time that he read about ToT at DL changing to Guardians of the Galaxy, but he also said they would be moving more slowly at WDW. So maybe you'll get a chance in 2018 before the changes are made.

The Speedway isn't going away according to what Luke read, but it will be updated. Autopia at DL as undergone and upgrade, but no idea if Tomorrowland Speedway will get the same changes.

I'm sad about Universe of Energy. I love Ellen and always enjoyed this ride.
I am, too. When we used to go the first couple of weeks of June, we enjoyed the 40 minute ride in the air conditioning. But we also just loved the ride.

Hopefully, the weather will cooperate (in words not be too hot and humid) and crowds will be medium level as predicted and then maybe we can make all of these. That is a lot of what ifs, I know.

Definitely keeps us going back! I do miss some of the old stuff. SpectroMagic comes to mind. But then I also love so much of the new.
I hadn't heard some of those rumors! It will be interesting to see what becomes of them all. This may not be a popular opinion, but I would love to see them get rid of the Tomorrowland Motor Speedway. I can ride something like this at my local amusement park, and Disney could make much better use of that space with something much more magical and innovative!
The websites Luke visits most frequently cover all the new construction plus rumors of what is up ahead with attractions. He keeps me up-to-date. The only problem is doesn't usually remember where he read which rumors.

I wouldn't have known either, but this is the Disney stuff that Luke is most into learning about.
I had intended to look at Disney Food Blogs this afternoon and create a list of the top 10 food and drink items that I wanted to try at the Flower & Garden Festival. BUT, I got distracted. One day last week Luke talked with a guy who does lawn work for a neighbor, checking to see how much he would charge to remove two dwarf Alberta spruces from our front landscaping. Actually, one of these was not very dwarf anymore. Yesterday afternoon, he came back to remove and haul away both of these.
The weather here was so nice today, sunny with a high of 72 degrees. So we went to a section of our local Green Belt for a walk. We got there around 11:15 and walked 3.54 miles. Afterwards, we went to McDonald's, planning to go through the drive-thru. But we both needed the restrooms, so we ended up eating inside. While eating we discussed two things that would determine the rest of our afternoon.
First, we keep a McD's gift card for our little jaunts to get drinks or a quick lunch. Right now we can get 4X fuel points with gift card purchases at Kroger. We were just there yesterday afternoon, but one of the sale items we wanted was out of stock. So we decided to check to see if these had been restocked. After lunch, we drove a block to Korger, got the gift card, and 4 12-packs of cans of Dr. Peppers, and then headed home.
Second, we talked about what to do with the empty spots where the trees had been. We thought rather than dwarf trees that we'd like two more holly bushes. Back at home we went outside to see what we imagined it would look like with the new bushes. We couldn't go earlier to Home Depot when we were out for our walk because we were in Luke's car, which couldn't hold all the drinks plus landscaping stuff we'd need to get. Once at home, we found ourselves cleaning out the landscaping so it would be ready to mulch. Our weeping willow sheds a mess of leaves and branches over the winter that pack down in our landscaping. Yucky, yucky mess, trust me. Luke even had to get the ladder out to remove some from the guttering above the front porch. I'm not sure what time it was at this point as neither of us checked. We wondered about going back out, but decided we had the energy to at least check out Home Depot.
At Home Depot, we found a couple of holly bushes, but we ended up liking the azalea bushes better and purchased two of these. They have dark green leaves and red blooms. We also got a cute red bird solar light. Without the taller tree, we now have a place for a solar light there where it can get some sunlight. Remember the weeping willow tree. Well, it shades pretty much the entire front yard, which is what we want it to do to keep the front two bedrooms cooler. We also purchased a new hummingbird feeder. Our old one froze when we got an early, surprise freeze before we'd thought to bring it in. And 10 bags of black mulch.
By now it was after 3:30. We pondered whether to start the yard work. Who knows why, but we decided to go ahead. At one point I looked over at Luke and told him my thighs and knees were going to hate me tomorrow. And they very well may.
When we got back inside, Luke asked about the time and I looked at my Fitbit-- it was 5:06 PM. My next words were, "Do I still have to cook dinner?" That earned me some laughter, but also a "No." Luke had a coupon for Donato's pizza if we placed our order online. So he went online, purchased a pizza and breadsticks for dine in, and then we were out the door. Over dinner, we made a list of a few things we'd meant to look at while at Home Depot, but forgot. Luke will pick these up tomorrow while I'm volunteering at Care Net. He doesn't know it yet, but I added an item to the list, which means another stop. This means a trip to Target to purchase Rogue One. I'm pretty sure, he'll smile and get it.
NEXT: I probably will not get to check out Disney Food Blogs before I do an update tomorrow, so who knows what you'll learn about tomorrow.
Wow ... that was a lot you both accomplished. I forget what those days were like now it is small accomplishments amongst play with me requests from a certain toddler.

What do you mean about starting yard work? With all the new plants and bushes purchased and planted that definitely counts! I guess just referring to the usual Spring stuff with the raking that needs to be done! Living in a condo, I don't miss the raking one bit!
That was funny with the Fitbit and reference to cooking tonight! Nice weather you had today as we had the same in CT with the addition of clouds, two inches of rain and a deduction of 20 degrees!

My TR from my most recent trip is now underway. Includes: Universal Studios Florida, Disney World and Sea World Orlando Trifecta TR -Updated December 10th! TR is now COMPLETED!
Sounds like it was a very productive day for you both. Hope your body isn't aching too badly today! We're suppose to have a nice day here in the mid 60's with sun, so I will be doing some clean up landscaping myself, along with a 3.5 miles walk. I've been getting out every other day for the last week so that I'll be ready for all the walking that comes with a Disney trip! Looking forward to hearing some of your food and drink choices for the F&G Festival.
