A Promise Kept: A Cam and Fam PTR Updated 10/9 - Page 27 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Glad to know you have experienced all those Kentucky specialties. Sounds like you have some great bbq in your town, but I'm sure those from North Carolina, Texas, Kansas City and Memphis would disagree. Always, on going wars with bbq in particular areas on who has the best. I've had bbq in Austin, Texas and Memphis and both were great. Especially in Memphis for ribs at Rendezvous and has been featured on various food and travel programs and many say have the best rib in the USA. They are the best I've ever had.

I have been smiling so wide at all the cool dancing giraffes! Thanks for joining in the dance.
I love those giraffes and where did you get those emoticons from as I'd like to use those and others that show, I guess the dramatic in TRs?

I just google them and then insert them using the "insert image" button in the reply post. I love how these animated emoticons add some fun to the TRs and other posts.

Thanks. You're definitely right about that!

We meet June's crew and my Daddy in Bowling Green to celebrate Dad's 88th birthday. He won't actually be 88 until Wednesday, but this is when we could all be together, and it was wonderful. Daddy always jokes that his is the last rose of summer since the 22nd is the first day of autumn.
I used the time to also get their Magic Bands to them with a caution NOT to forget to pack them. June wanted me to bring them back home so Luke and I would be responsible for them. But John was so excited that he wanted to start wearing his today. So they have kept them, and I plan to call and remind them a couple of times to pack them.
I also asked Morgan and John Paul if there were any characters that they really wanted to meet. I know they are now more into the rides, but I wanted to factor in character time if they wanted it. Morgan immediately said Rapunzel, so we may head straight there first thing in the morning or make that a FP+ after we finish our original three. Both JP and Morgan want to meet Peter Pan and talking Mickey. Morgan then mentioned Pocahontas, and that was it. When they were done, June asked if she could meet Tinker Bell -- well of course, you can. Tinker Bell is still a favorite as she always reminds our family of Stefanie.
We also discussed what clothing would be appropriate for our trip as well as their travel plans. June was comforted to know that I hadn't started packing yet. We also decided that we really need to make a little pool time, even if it is in the evening. Bathing suits will be packed. In addition, they will now be leaving on Friday, September 30, pulling a U-Haul full of stuff that Pam wanted from Dad's house when he held the auction two years ago. She and her DH have promised to come up the past two summers to get the stuff, but haven't. So June and John our ready to have the space back that it is taking up. They will drive down in one day, but haven't decided where to spend Friday night yet as Pam's house only has space for Dad. The plan Saturday is for them to unload the U-Haul and return it before heading to OKW. We'll keep in touch with texts. I'm excited because they should be there around 4:00 - 5:00, which means we can head to Disney Springs to eat at one of the new counter service restaurants.
Interesting tidbit, as we were headed to Rafferty's where we were meeting, we passed a Blaze Pizza, one of the newest DS counter service restaurants, which Luke and I had thought would be a good option. Now we know there is one also only an hour and half from us.
For the Vaughns, today marks two weeks until Disney Time. When we went our separate ways, JP was going to get a haircut before they headed home. He wants to look good in PP photos.
When Luke and I got back home, I was feeling very achy. It has rained most of the day and that aggravates my arthritis. So all I wanted was a nap. Revived an hour later, I checked the Disney website and added all the characters except Pocahontas to our itinerary. She is currently not showing up on the calendar after October 1, but I'll keep checking to see if she is just moving to a new location.
Sounds like a lot of good things were discussed and decided on. It sounds like all is going well for plans. It sounded like you had a nice birthday celebration for your Daddy's birthday. Almost time
Your plans all sound wonderful. I think the excitement of thinking about the trip and planning everything is just as much fun as the trip itself.
I am sure the Vaughn 's are appreciative of everything you have organized. I agree with everyone about some of the crazy pricing Disney has instituted. I guess as long as people will pay, it will work for the corporate office.
I loved your souvenir list. I have e done the same thing. Kitchen items are some of my favorite.
Everything is coming together and it won't be much longer! Can't wait to see you and Luke and see some grim grinning ghosts! Sure hope the photopass photographer is there! There WILL be photographic proof this time!
Sounds like you had a great time for your daddy's 88th birthday! The plans are looking good and not much longer now!

Dad's only request for his birthday was for all of us to be together, and due to Luke's surgeries, we hadn't seen them for several months. So we were all very glad to be together for any reason.

The Vaughns have been very grateful that Luke and I have done so much planning for this trip. For them it means they have been able to relax before the trip and will during it, too.

Can't wait to see you as well! June asked me if she'd get to meet any PassPorters this trip. She now thinks that is a must, too. I told her we were meeting you at HM, but it was before she would be there. Then she was like this .
