Solo-on-a-Scooter takes the A-Train. LIVE TR, 8/29 - 9/11/2015 - Page 27 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I am def going to try to get to the window when I visit AK... do they do procedures on weekends??
As you'll see in my upcoming update, anything can happen, but the vet schedule is usually from 9:30 or 10am to noon every single day except Wednesdays. Now, because of emergencies and quirks in the schedule there are rare days that they do not do any procedures in the window and on occasion if something comes up they'll be in there on a Wednesday. Usually, though, it's reliably 6 days a week. If you don't want to take the trip out to Rafiki's to find that the vets aren't there, ask at Guest Relations or the tip board CM when you enter the park.

Thank you! The tour was a wonderful bonus.

I think I've had a lot of magic! The vets are such wonderful and caring people.

Lidia has been a great friend over the years. I'm so sorry I didn't get to see her on this trip.
Day 12. Tuesday, Sept 8. Sunny but not quite as hot as it’s been.
I set off for AK hoping to be able to see the surgery on the Pelican chick from yesterday, but I was out of luck. The vets were out making house calls and there would be nothing happening in the vet window this morning. This doesn’t happen often, but now I’ll only have one morning left at the window on Thursday. I had been wondering how I’d be able to find the time and strength to do the Jungle Trek, though, so here was my chance. I headed to Asia and had a wonderful time watching the gibbons and siamangs and then going down the trail to see the bats, tigers and birds.
Both the new male and female Sumatran tigers were out. The female was having a great time splashing around in the water. They’re gorgeous! So far they’re being kept in separate enclosures, but they will eventually be introduced and, maybe, mate. Wouldn’t tiger cubs be wonderful?!
I took a short video of the gibbons swinging around, but Photobucket won't upload it.
I’d been lamenting the fact that I’ve had not one snack on this trip because I’m always in the room, but finally I had a chance to try the pineapple soft serve from Tamu Tamu. I can now confirm that this is NOT the same as Dole Whip. They’re both made from a powder, but the real Dole Whip that you get at MK and the Polynesian tastes like fresh pineapple. The other does not. It’s a softer, less acidic taste, but doesn’t taste like real fruit. I ate a couple of spoonfuls and then threw it away. Icky.
So this was a very short morning at AK. I was back at BW by 11:45. I made an ADR for dinner tonight at FF. Getting tired of take-out food! No difficulties at all making a last-minute ADR.
After a nice long afternoon nap I got up and dressed for dinner at Flying Fish. This time I asked for my favorite waiter, Jay M. He’s amazing and remembers my preferences from trip to trip. I contemplated getting a salad before the entree, but knew it would be way too much food. The FF salads are fantastic. I ordered the veggie sampler platter again, but got different items than my meal last week. Jay first brought me out a tasting portion of two different salads, the caprese (heirloom tomatoes with mozzarella and aged balsamic vinegar, and a lavender goat cheese with pistachio and red bell pepper. YUM!! For my entree the four dishes were grilled asparagus, risotto with Nicoise olives and summer squash, potato au gratin and sautéed mushrooms. It was all perfect. The mushrooms especially were incredibly tasty. Once again, I couldn’t eat it all so I have about half all packed up and there’s my dinner for tomorrow! To end, I had sorbet: coconut, white peach and blueberry.
What a great surprise this morning! It sounds like it was a wonderful experience! Fascinating about the turtles. We currently have a box turtle at home but think he'll go back to the wild before our trip so he can hibernate like he's supposed to. Dylan wants a hamster for his birthday though so we might lose one pet and gain another.

You posted just as I posted today's update! It was a wonderful morning with the vets yesterday. Gopher tortoises are endangered, so they do everything they can to save them and return them to the wild. Do schools still have pets in the classrooms?
You snuck today's post in on me! So glad you got to see the tigers, bats and birds; even if meant not seeing anything at the window. Happy to hear you had a fantastic meal and your server sounded wonderful as well.

All's well that ends well, I always say. Sorry nothing was going on at the vet window, but that gave you the time you needed to follow the trail. Beautiful pictures as usual. Your dinner looks delicious. I hope you are able to visit Epcot as you wish tomorrow, including Illuminations. With a good nap in the afternoon, I'll bet you will be good to go.

Dylan says there are a few teachers that have pets in their classes. He knows of two teachers in 2nd grade (there are 7-8 2nd grade classes) that have pets - one has a hamster and one a lizard.
Lukas has a pet bunny named Lola at daycare.
Too bad there were no procedures at the window today, but it's nice that you got a chance to go through the jungle trek. Your pictures of the tigers and birds are great! The color of the Hooded Pitta is just beautiful! So glad you were able to take a good nap and have dinner at Flying Fish. Your selections looked delicious! Very nice to have tastes of so many different things!
What a wonderful two days you have had! We have never eaten at Flying Fish and I'd really like to try it. How kid friendly is the restaurant? I'm always a bit leery about taking kids into signature restaurants, especially the ones outside of the actual parks. I feel like the adults are probably hoping to get away from small children.
Those tigers are so beautiful! You can see the power in their bodies even in a picture. Glad you were able to do the trail. Too bad about the pineapple whip.
But dinner made up for it! The goat cheese salad sounds yummy. I just slow roasted a bunch of golden cherry tomatoes, and was serving it with goat cheese.
Keeping my fingers crossed that you're able to see Illuminations tomorrow night!
Another good day you had, but sorry to hear that you couldn't go to the vet window today! Although, you should be thankful as you've experienced so much there already! But, as you only have one more possible opportunity there, I'm sure it was a bit disappointing for you today! Good that you had some time on the Jungle Trek as it's a lot of fun and you never know what you'll see! I always love it!
With your experiences on this trip I know the Vet Window is now a "Must"for me on my next trip as it is so amazing and you don't know what you'll see and at the same time learn so much about our unique and beautiful creatures! Is there any kind of reservation required for the Vet Window as I'm a bit puzzled as the staff knows you so well and may be different as you may get priority? Will just have to remember it opens at 9:30 am or just check this thread out for reference!
