Halloween, Hawaii and holiday celebrations - THIS SECTION COMPLETED 12/27 - Page 27 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Thursday 31 October – part seven: lots of laughter in France!
When we got to France, we had to make a pit stop for some drinks, with Mark and I both getting the Grand Marnier Slush.
We stood in a shady area in France, just chatting away and doing a lot of laughing…
In these shots, Angie’s managed to spill some of her drink on her arm, and Sir Larry is gallantly coming to her rescue. It had already been mentioned earlier that whenever you needed anything, Larry and Bob were always around to help out, and so it proved to be here.
We made our way towards the United Kingdom, and found a Photopass photographer to take some shots of our “small” group…
… then we said our goodbyes, with ourselves, Bob and Larry heading back to the Beach Club Villas, and everyone else carrying on around World Showcase.
On the way out, we saw what I’d class as another “family unfriendly” outfit or two… honestly, none of us knew where to look when it came to the girl on the left!
It was so nice to wander back with the Beach Club Villas with Bob and Larry, and I took the opportunity to chat to Bob about retirement and the wonderful travels he’s been enjoying over the last few months.
We were room number 172, which was pretty much at the end of the building and here’s what it looked like…
.. and the view we had outside – see I told you it was pretty much at the end of the building!
Once bell had delivered our luggage to us, I just had to enjoy the whirlpool bath, which was much better than the one at the Grand Floridian. I honestly never thought I’d say that but I found the jets were focused on the problem areas, like the shoulders, which I couldn’t get from the one at the Grand Floridian.
We headed out about 6:00pm, as we had our ADR at Monsieur Paul’s at 6:15pm. I had tried a little earlier to see if I could put it back by maybe 15 minutes just to give us a bit more time in the room, but go according to the Disney website, which did surprise me, as I didn’t think it was one of the more popular restaurants at Epcot.
I had to get a photo of the odd replacement carpet they’ve put down here. It really doesn’t seem to fit in at all.
I got some photos on the way over to Epcot:
Mark’s MagicBand had some issues as we entered the park, with his fingerprint apparently not matching up. Whether this remains to be a problem for the rest of our vacation remains to be seen.
We got some Photopass photographers once we were inside, and of course we just had to get some shots done with them…
Looks like you had such a great time with all the PP friends in Epcot! Also nice that you were offered free alcoholic beverages in the Chase Lounge which as you mentioned that it isn't all the often that Disney gives out "Free" stuff I really enjoyed the Chase Lounge with my DD this year because it was so hot when we were there in October and it was nice to have a place like that to go and just relax with a cold drink! Loved all the PP pics you got of the group. Your room at the BC was quite large but that replacement carpeting didn't seem to really fit the theme of the resort Looking forward to hearing about your dinner.

I think it's a rarity to get anything free anywhere these days.

Lots of laughing in France! You all sure know how to have fun together.
I cannot believe - cannot! - that someone at Disney allowed that "costumed" woman to walk around like that. Halloween or not, that's sooooo not appropriate! Yikes. And I totally would have taken a photo too because nobody would have believed me!
Glad you enjoyed the tub and the rest in your room. Sounds like you needed it - since you were hoping to delay your dinner reservation.
Wonderful photos of you two in France!

I really wonder what some people think when they pick out Halloween costumes...especially to wear in a place like Disney World. It definitely sets a bad example for all of the kids there.
Your trip sounds great so far!
More fun time at Epcot. The group shots came out so well. It's not often with a group that you get a really nice shot of everyone. Must be an unusually photogenic bunch! YIKES to that outfit--how did they let her into the park?? I agree about that dull carpet at BCV. Not BC or Disney at all.

We certainly do!

I must admit I did wonder what on earth they were doing letting her in....

I think you've hit the nail on the head - I don't think people do think when they get Halloween costumes like that. As you say, they certainly didn't think about the effect it would have on kids at a family theme park.

Maybe we were all relaxed with that food and wine we'd been consuming along the way...

I really would've loved to have seen her enter the park to see if there was any conversation with her about the costume at all.

It has to be something to maybe cover up a damp spot or something? That's the only thing I can think of.
What a nice, long update! So many great pictures! OMG, that costume on the left (Ariel?) was by FAR the worst. That would have been inappropriate anywhere in public, never mind a family friendly park! Wow!
