As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.

Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

I think Palo is worth it for the desserts alone. If I ever get back there, I'd do an appetizer and then just eat desserts! But I'll stay away from the tiramisu.

I really am impressed with all the food selections at the Palo brunch! Sounds like your experience overall was a very good one. Interested to read your next post about your comments for Disney to chew on!
That is one of my pet peeves - when my egg is over-poached on Eggs Benedict. Sometimes it's from being in the water too long, but it can also be from the heat lamp. I'm hoping we may be able to work in 2 brunches on our next sailing.

Why just stop with appetiser and desserts? Heck, it's not as if you're paying for each individual dish... it's the same charge no matter how much you eat!

Looks like a nice meal at Palo but too bad parts of your selections were a bit disappointing at times! I certainly will not pass up the inclusion of smoked salmon on any breakfast/brunch menu! Seems like they just tried to remove the prosciutto from your eggplant entree and not prepare it individually. I guess they didn't succeed 100% on this!
Thursday 29 September – part four: some comments for Disney to chew over…
We headed back to the room for a couple of hours downtime, during which time we got on with our packing. The idea was to pack a couple of suitcases that we wouldn’t touch again this vacation, so they’d be Ok and within the weight limit for both JetBlue and Virgin Atlantic, as they have the same weight limits. The first one had to be emptied out a bit, after it came up too heavy, but we took 1.5 lbs out, only for the scales to tell us the case didn’t weigh any less. We got there in the end… then the second case, which we thought was much lighter, came up literally just a pound or two lighter. Are our scales still working?
We then did the third case, and guess what? About a pound or two overweight, so we packed and weighed the final case, and thankfully that came in with lots of spare weight. It would just be a case of how to physically pack more into it, but at least everything was in, and we had one seriously underweight case. It was a start… and Virgin Atlantic allows Upper Class passengers to have a much higher suitcase weight, so provided we can make it through the JetBlue flight, we should be Ok, right?
I did keep an eye outside, and we did occasionally see other ships…
… and quite a bit of land that appeared to be some of the various islands of the Bahamas. I was surprised by how much of it was dominated by ship building, rather than hotels though…
I also took the opportunity to write some comments, as everyone was saying that Disney listens to guests, and not to them. Frankly, I find it a bit concerning that Disney Cruise Line doesn’t seem to listen to those on the front line working on the ships, particularly the captains. What did I mention? Well, about how the Castaway Club works and how I’d prefer it to include credit for nights, as well as numbers of cruises, and then some little things that I think could make a big difference:
The navigators have gone down to two pages, which is all well and good, but it’s very hard to spot the highlights when all you get are the timelines. We’d much prefer the old four page format.
We’d like Disney to enforce the no running in corridors rule. It’s important enough for them to bring up at the mandatory safety drill, so why not deal with the problem throughout the cruise? Not only is it dangerous, but it’s also noisy and disruptive when you’re in your stateroom.
We’d like hooks by the hot stone chairs in the Rainforest for dressing gowns, as where else do you put them? A lot of people, us included, have put them on the floor, which is a bit nuts.
Why not close the basketball courts when Palo dinner is taking place? They close the mini golf so as not to irritate diners in Remy and why not do the same for those of us eating at Palo?
We found the TV channel choice and the films available on stateroom TV to be pretty poor, compared to our previous cruises.
The elevators weren’t great this cruise, they didn’t seem to respond particularly quickly, and we had a couple of instances of them whizzing past us when we thought they’d stop.
Now as a footnote, having written two pages, I thought I might get some form of response or thank you from Disney. Nothing. As a result, I didn't bother to write anything extra on our next cruise, as I couldn't see the point. Having been continually told that Disney values your opinions etc. etc., I just felt very disillusioned after taking the time to do this and getting nothing back in return.
We decided to head out a bit before dinner to get another of those nice cocktails at the Cove Café, and the staff immediately remembered us and asked how our last one had been. We replied by telling them we were going to get another.
We enjoyed that…
… and then headed outside to get some photos, as it was sunny, but there were also some interesting clouds around…
My goodness, the heat out there was just appalling! We both felt as if we were burning just walking along deck 11, which was not a good sign.
We were very relieved to get to the elevators, and head down to deck 3 for dinner at Animator’s Palate.
Next: the “human tank” all seem to be from Georgia…
Excellent comments, but I'm quite surprised no reply from them. You raised some very valid points. I'm particularly fond of the running in the corridors one. I cannot stand that at hotels, and see no idea why it's necessary. Any time my kids ever attempted it - nipped that in the bud! They are older now and find it annoying too. I also don't let them jump in the room, drop shoes/anything large. That drives me crazy too when you can hear the people above you.
Anyway... lovely scenes from outside the room! So peaceful out there on the open waters.
