Forums Closed
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.

So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.

Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.

And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.

We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.

There are other changes as well.

Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:

We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.

It's time to move on and move forward.

PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.

But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.

So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.

And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.

That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!

If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.

So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Best wishes for a wonderful and magical new year!

I'm glad you got your photos resized and uploaded to Photobucket. The only reason I can think of as to why removing the older ones wasn't lowering the percentage is that when you originally uploaded them, they were already resized. That was my experience. I started uploading the fullsize pictures, and the percentage went from 23% to 50% with one day's photos. So I deleted some photos from previous TRs and the percentage only went down 1%. That's when I started doing some research and found that even though the photos are resized in the Photobucket uploading process, the original size is counted toward the percentage. I had always resized before uploading in the past, so I knew that was the only way I would be able to use Photobucket without having to pay for extra storage.
Also, I want to make sure you know that with Windows Photo Gallery you are able to resize all the photos in a folder at once. That saves a LOT of time!

I hope your Dad gets some answers soon. Getting an appointment with a dermatologist is not easy! I recently called around to get an appointment for myself and was told by one office that they were booking 19 months out! Unbelievable!
I have never resized photos before uploading to Photobucket so the files I've deleted should have been a similar size to the ones I was uploading before I realized the problem. I had figured that Windows Photo Gallery would do a whole folder. I was telling Luke about downloading the app, and hoped it worked quickly since I'd never used a resizer. In the time it took for me to tell him that the folder was done.

I'm a wee bit sore today, mainly my arms because I held up the light for Luke as he worked. But Luke is dealing with a great deal of back pain.

I have been faithfully reading but not commenting. This trip looks like so much fun and your photos are putting me right in the action. Maybe I can celebrate my 60th birthday there.
I think spending your 60th at DLR would be fabulous.

This spring we walked the property as Luke called it and I record a list of repairs and improvements that we'd like to make over the next five or so years. The list is 3 pages long, but we have marked off a goodly number over the warm months. Unfortunately, the list is still extensive. We've lived here 14 years next month, and we just want to stay head of stuff.

Glad you're having better luck with Photobucket, but sorry for all of your challenges with the bathroom fan. Hope all goes well for your Dad.
RSR is the coolest. We won 2 of the three races this day, which made me squeal.

Unfortunately, Luke is having some serious back pain. The Windows Photo Gallery tip is due to Donna (DMA). I am happy to pass it along.

I always think home improvement projects are a bit like that children's book, "If You Give a Mouse a Cookie." I am still in the midst of a bathroom remodel I started in September, as we realized the prior owners of our house put big holes in the wall to hang the towel ring and toilet paper ring. I hadn't planned on needing to spackle when I decided to paint.
Glad you were able to find a fan that fit the hole, and that it's nice and quiet!
Perfect analogy for home improvement! At one point yesterday, I wondered why even simple home improvement tasks make such a mess.

I think part of my problem was that I had some much easier plans for the afternoon, but I wanted to help Luke. But even though today was busy, it didn't feel so hectic.

Thursday, October 8 – Further wanderings in Radiator Springs

Note: See a post further down for all PhotoPass photos for this update.

In the last update, I forgot to post ride photos for our two trips on Radiator Springs Racers. But here these are now.

As we excited Radiator Springs Racers for the second time, it was clear that we were not doing it for a third time immediately. The line now snaked all the way to the entrance and a little pass that. We couldn’t really complain though because we’d ridden twice before a little after 9:00. Now there was also still a lot more of Radiator Springs to explore. I got a few photos as we came back out into the town proper.

I was like a kid when I looked up from my camera to discover Red driving right beside me. So cool! I kept turning around to Luke, saying, “Look it’s Red!” and “He’s right there!” He just grinned at my exuberance.

Yes, I did stalk Red like the paparazzi.

We were thirsty, so we turned left towards Flo’s V8 Café.

But before heading in, Luke noticed a PhotoPass Photographer working with a couple in front of the café. He suggested we get in line because we would be next. Just as we thought she had finished with the couple, they all three wandered off to the left of Flo’s. We looked at each other, and decided to follow. She took them to a spot overlooking Radiator Springs Racers, we were again next in line. While waiting for our turn, I got a few more photos of the canyon.

Once it was our turn, the PhotoPass photographer took quite a few poses of us, including a magic shot. She also explained to us that the magic shot procedure with their PP cameras had changed and that was why she had had to do our last pose over.

Now because we were still thirsty, we started over, heading back to Flo’s V8 Café. This early there was hardly anyone else in here, so while Luke waited in a short line, I wandered and photographed. Disney really has done a great job with the theming here.

With drinks in hand, a large Coke for Luke and a regular Fanta Orange for me, we simply wandered Radiator Springs totally immersed in Cars Land. Honestly, we felt like we’d step right into the movie set.

At one point I ask Luke if there were no other attractions beside RSR since the tires one had been closed. He told me that Tow Mater had a small ride, but he wasn’t sure about whether I’d get motion sick on it or not. I had taken a Bonine before leaving the room, so he suggested that we watch it for a bit to decide.

At this point I decided to think just a bit more, so we turned around and headed into Sarge’s Surplus Hut, where Luke found lots of stuff he liked. But he didn’t want to buy anything until later.

From Sarge’s we moved on to Radiator Springs Curios shop. Cute little store! At this point it seemed neither of us was in a buying mood, at least not yet.

But the shopping had convinced me that I wanted to try Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree. We were set to ride now, though I couldn’t resist a couple of photos of the Cozy Cone Motel. I loved this part in the movie and it was so cool to wander this area.

Before we get to the ride, I had been texting back and forth with Jeannie (Dlandmom) yesterday, trying to set up a time to meet up. We had decided on today sometime between 10:00 and 11:00. As we progressed through the queue for Mater’s ride, I got a text that Jeannie had made it to the park. I sent back a text that it was almost our turn to board a tractor. She said she’d head to Cars Land and meet us at the exit to the ride. Now to the ride. The queue is so cute and clever and so Mater.

The ride basically has the guests in wagons or carts being pulled behind tractors that whip the wagons in circles throughout the circuit of the ride. I managed to snap of few photos, but most of the ride I spent laughing joyfully. My mom would have said that the ride turned over my funny box. But then that made it so much like Mater. I would definitely ride again for the pure joy of laughing.

NEXT: Meeting a PassPorter Friend in 3D (Sorry if you thought I would get to that part today.)

You're both brave taking on the bathroom vent fan job! We just hired a contractor to install two bathroom vents that needed to be replaced We wouldn't know where to begin for sure. I loved all your pictures of Cars Land!!! I must remember to get some Bonine for my trip next Fall as I think a few of the rides I might experience motion sickness! Have you visited the AOA resort in WDW yet? They have such a cute area dedicated to the movie Cars!

Yay! Loved the update, and looking very much forward to exploring Carsland myself. I've been there, but my DSis was tour boss and we basically did RSR and tore off to the next ride. Can't wait to wander here!

The Mater ride sounds like it was fun.
But sadly the photo pass pictures aren't showing?

Red won't be the only Cars character we get to see travel the streets of Radiator Springs.

But the Photopass pictures are not showing up for me.
The Photopass photos may be a while in coming because since the PassPorter Boards were moved to a new server yesterday, Cheryl and I have discovered an issue with photos in posts. We can't edit them at present. So have the new links on Photobucket, but I can add them in yet.

Have you visited the AOA resort in WDW yet? They have such a cute area dedicated to the movie Cars!
We will never do this ourselves again. NEVER! Luke has really hurt his back and had moments of excruciating pain off and on all day. He hasn't been to the doctor yet, and trust me that is something that he'll decide on his own. Little stubborn on that. I have suggested it, but I'll be patient.

We have ridden through AOA on the DME bus but that is as close as we have come.

You will have so much fun just wandering this land.

But sadly the photo pass pictures aren't showing?
I know and I have tried working on it this afternoon once it happened, but the boards are refusing to let me edit photos.

It has been another wacky day here. We will never do work for ourselves again that requires Luke to work in the attic. Luke has had excruciating back pain off and all on day. Most of my day has been trying to nurse him. No need to suggest he go to the doctor. I've already done that even though I know he never goes to the doctor unless he is ready.

When I could get on the computer this afternoon, I first noticed that my mousepad and cursor were acting wonky. I would place the cursor on a folder click and it would immediately jump to another folder and open it. That made working with photos rather exciting (translate frustrating this afternoon). But I "thought" I got all my resized photos loaded on to Photobucket.

Then I typed up the next update. No problems. I came on to the boards and rather than checking other forums first, I immediately went to my TR and copied the update. When I clicked go advance, it did not include my post in the edit box. So I backed up and worked from the quick reply box, which is smaller. But I thought I was doing well until something triggered a thought. I had a feeling that I'd uploaded the un-resized photos to Photobucket for all our PhotoPass photos. And I had. So I deleted them from the quick reply box. My wacky cursor then leaped on the Post Quick Reply button and posting my un-edited update. Bummer! So I clicked edit only to discover that nothing showed up in the box. So I can't fix my errors at least in the original update. Unfortunate!

In lieu of that I'll just add them here because I'm not sure how long it will be before this problem is fixed.

Starting with the two ride photos, which were also deleted from Photobucket but are still showing up in the TR update. By the way, I'm the one with camera in front of my face in the first one and it factors predominantly in the second as well.

The next are our photos with the PhotoPass photographer back at the scenic overlook to Radiator Springs Racers.

Since I accidentally posted before I meant to, I didn't get to edit a portion. Before our shopping/browsing, Luke and I walked a short ways to another PhotoPass photographer near the entrance to Carsland. The following are the photos he took.
