Solo-on-a-Scooter takes the A-Train. LIVE TR, 8/29 - 9/11/2015 - Page 26 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

So glad you felt better today so that you could spend time at AK and the vet window. Such a neat tour of the hospital! The Crocs are so cute, so it's easy to see why folks are chasing you down to find out where you got them. I had actually wondered about your shoes in one of your earlier photos.
I'm very glad I didn't miss today at the window!

The tour was great. I am worried about that little bird. He's spending the night in the ICU.

I'm sure all your friends missed you yesterday and I don't mean the various vets and nurses!
I don't know if they missed me, but I missed them!

I'm sure most would love to stay at AK. Lidia once said to me that it's nearly impossible to get a full time permanent position as a vet tech because nobody ever leaves! It's true, though, that a vet tech intern or a vet who's done a year of residency at AK have a plus on their resumes that is hard to beat!

I've learned that if I push too hard I'll regret it. I'm so grateful for this comfortable room to relax in.
Happy that you got a good rest yesterday so you could enjoy this special morning. Poor little pelican chick. I hope they attempt the surgery while you are there so we can know how he makes out.
I was so absolutely in love with your day today I read it out loud to my family! Those tortoises! I can picture them. We will be in Animal Kingdom on a Saturday, so I know the vet window won't be open but you have made me wish it was. When we were out there on our last trip it wasn't happening either. Maybe we were there on a weekend then too. Next time I will make it a priority.
Disney Magic is quite special and you just never know when it will make its' appearance! I've had it bestowed upon me on several occasions.....and each time has been a big surprise!

What an awesome morning with the vets. It's kind of like someone knew what was coming today, so forced you to rest yesterday to be ready. I'm glad the weather was slightly better. I would love to have been able to see pictures of the tortoises as well. How special that they work not only on their resident animals, but those from the wild as well. It was so nice of Lidia to arrange this special care for you. I'm just sorry that you had to miss seeing her on your last visit.
Laurie, I know you have written in various trip reports about the friendships you have formed with the AK vet staff. I am so pleased for you that Lydia was able to arrange for the best kind of magic for you with the back stage tour, your visit with the turtles and chatting with the veterinarians. I am sure that everyone there appreciates your passion and understanding of the animals and the work the keepers do. Your knowledge is amazing and I am always learning from you. By bringing you back stage and opening their world to you, it provides us with a small glimpse of the high caliber world of animal care provided by Disney. I, personally, would pay good money to have a meal with any of the animal staff.
Your salad sounds yummy. I'm not sure why but grilled cheese is always appealing on vacation.
Btw, your crocs rock. I smiled as I read your croc story.
Just catching up Laurie. So glad you had some time with Sharon while in NY waiting for your connecting train, I am sure the company had the time flying by until your train was ready.
I am sorry that the train was not the easiest of rides, so I was happy to read you had made it and were safe and sound at the BWV. What a beautiful room, I really love the look of the renovated studios. Wish we had gotten one (we had the older room when we were there a few weeks before you) but I am heading there in February for a short weekend so maybe then .
What a sweet gift the hotel sent you, such as sweet gesture and filled with such wonderful things.
Dinner looked wonderful at the Flying Fish, what a wonderful selection.
I am so glad you have been experiencing some wonderful experiences over at FPW, and what a great treat to head back stage. I am glad that you were able to do the safari at least once....and what a wonderful visit with the gorillas.
Loved the picture with you and Maralyn as well as some of the other staff. Your lunch at the Harambe market looked delicious, we stopped there for lunch as well and really enjoyed. Definitely a great addition to the park.
Sorry that breakfast over at Trattoria was not worth writing home about, hoping if you head back again that whatever you order will be enjoyed more than the frittata and surprised at the service, not stellar at all. Glad the service was better at dinner and that you enjoyed the appetizer and dessert. Sorry about the entrée however. Jasmine will agree, she had the Panna Cotta and thought it was wonderful.
Shopping at DTD sounded like it was a successful shopping trip, I will agree so much construction. Will be nice when it is all done. Lunch at Portabello sounded great and I love the options over at Tutto Gusto during your morning at Epcot - sounds like you made the perfect choice for your lunch.

I would love to see the surgery on the Pelican.

The vet window is open on weekends. The only day they don't schedule anything is Wednesday. You'd have to be there in the morning, though, to be sure of seeing an exam or procedure.

I really enjoyed seeing the hospital with the young intern, too. She's so full of excitement at being there herself that it gave a different feel to the experience.

It's a lovely group of people at Rafiki's! They really did take care of me.

It wouldn't be "magic" if you could see it coming!

You're right, that day of rest was perfectly timed. If I had a choice in my dates I would have changed to a time when Lidia was home and working. She took care of me even in her absence, though.

They used to have a "Lunch with the Animal Team" at Jiko, which was fantastic! I did it three times, twice with Dr Mark and once with Dr Greg. I believe they now have a dinner or lunch at Sanaa with an AKL keeper. Grilled cheese is definitely one of my comfort foods!

Glad you got some time to catch up, Meg! Sharon and I spoke about you when we met up. All good things! I plan to give Trattoria another chance at breakfast on my last morning. I just had bad luck there. Too many of you have had wonderful experiences for me to write it off. That photo with Maralyn is a favorite of mine. What a nice welcome that was on my first morning at the window.
I'm glad you were feeling better and could go to to the AK yesterday. It was nice to read about your private tour. I always enjoy reading about your trips. Your lunch sounds good.
