TR: Thingamabobs, Zebra & Giraffes, Oh My! Completed 3/25/15 - Page 26 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Now I'm really sorry we missed seeing the Frozen sing-along. We had a FP+ but our flight didn't get in early enough. Looks like lots of fun - minus the rude mom.
Aside from the rude people, you are having a nice day so far! And you can't let that type of thing wreck your day anyway! Your response was perfect! And in the end rude mom saw she was being unreasonable.
So nice of that CM to give Emily all the Olaf cut-outs!
Glad you were able to rearrange your day at DHS to make room for some Frozen fun! I loved the Sing-a-long show and would definitely go again. Sorry about the rude people at the parade and the show!
Great times at Epcot and Studios! La Hacienda is a real gem in WDW and much better than San Angel. Too bad for the rude mom for Frozen, but at least you got to enjoy that and other attractions!

I feel kind of bad for the CMs in that parade. That attire in the warm Florida sun... Probably as enjoyable as yellow snow!
The Frozen stuff looked great (minus the cranky people). My daughter would flip out! Hopefully by the next time we go they'll still have some Frozen stuff there.
Thanks! And yes - I feel bad for any of the CM's that have to wear/perform in those costumes!

It was a lot more fun than we thought!

When we returned to the resort, we just took some time to relax out on the balcony of course! Scott & I had a beer (according to the photo, it looks as though he had 2 ) with Olaf hanging out with us! Olaf really enjoyed the animal watching this afternoon! He easily fit in with our afternoon routine!
After a few hours, we needed to get ready for dinner. Tonight was a new first for us. We were going to Bongo’s in Downtown Disney. Because we enjoy our park time so much, we rarely take time to enjoy the restaurants in DTD, but we were really looking forward to this one!
We checked in and we were seated immediately – we chose to be seated outside on the patio. However, the view was not so great – with all the construction going on – there was a lovely construction wall right in our view – however, we did spot the Characters in Flight balloon drifting over that wall!
Our server tonight was Sasa – he was wonderful. I truly enjoy a server that is not hesitant about recommendations – especially for first time visitors. Sasa really did a great job with this this evening!
We started with beverages – I started with the traditional Bongo Mojito (I later asked Sasa for another recommendation and he brought me the Cocomojito!). Scott had the Raspberry Lemon Martini, and then later had the Peechy Keen. Emily had a virgin Daiquiri. She really enjoys these “specialty’ drinks that are made without alcohol!
Olaf of course joined us for dinner, but Emily was not too happy that I let him sip my mojito – she thought it was quite inappropriate! (Let’s hope she continues to feel this way for quite some time!!! ).
For appetizer we all shared the Coconut Ceviche (shrimp and lobster ceviche marinated in lime, coconut and pineapple juice, served in a whole fresh coconut with Malanga chips and toasted crostini). This was so delicious!!!
And for our entrees, which we basically just picked from each other! And Oh MY!!!! I totally forgot to take photos!!! Sorry. But anyway – we had the Camarones al Ajillo (Shrimp with garlic sauce); Bistec de Palomilla (Cuban style steak); and Shrimp Cuban Creole.
Emily can rarely pass up on flan – so we ordered the Cuban Flan to share.
After dinner, we were stuffed so we wanted to walk around a bit to let our food digest, so we wandered in and out of some of the stores on that side of DTD. It was fairly crowded and with the construction walls up, it really made for getting around feel quite claustrophobic.
We made our way to the buses and hopped on a bus back to Disney Hollywood Studios. Our main mission for this evening was just to go to watch the Frozen Fireworks show.
We found a spot fairly quickly for the show – and again, because of the layout of the stage vs where the fireworks are shot off from, you really need to choose which is more important to you – the stage show, or the fireworks. We chose an area fairly close to where we had been on the 4th of July – we had a great view of both – no, we couldn’t really see the detail of the stage show, but we could see the screen clearly.
While waiting for the show to start, Emily grabbed a popcorn and a special Olaf Frozen ice type drink.
We took a few more photos with Olaf!
Then the stage show began – and each of the characters made an appearance – there was lots of singing and laughing.
It was even snowing on Hollywood Boulevard!
And then they showed some of the photos that had been shared with Instagram of what Olaf had been up to for the day…………….and we saw our shining star on the big screen!! Em’s photo with Olaf was up there!!! (She only took maybe about 50 total that day :roll eyes: of Olaf doing everything throughout the day!!!).
We enjoyed the show and the fireworks, however, there was a lot of ash flying around from the fireworks. This park really is not quite big enough to have such a display every night – just my opinion.
After the show, we wanted to let the crowds clear out a bit, so we wandered over the Candy shop and watched them making some special treats, and I picked up a fresh caramel apple with peanuts, sliced of course for easier eating!! Emily grabbed an Anna/Elsa cookie.
One of Em’s friends from back home saw a photo of Emily with her Olaf stuffie and had asked if we could pick one up for her – so we found one in one of the gift shops (they were now limiting guests to 2 purchases of these at a time ).
Then we headed back to the resort, and straight to bed! But of course, stopped for Photopass photos on the way out!

Dinner sounded good. Too bad your view was of construction walls.
DTD Hasn't really been calling to us lately, partly because of all the construction going on. I agree that it can be very claustrophobic.
And another fun Frozen night! Nice that Emily and Olaf were chosen as part of the photo montage.
How cool is it that Emily was up on the big screen with Olaf?
When we went in August, we too got our Olaf on a stick but ours had an umbrella he was holding (it was still cute though). We didn't take any pictures with him though. I only had my camera with us anyway so even if we did, it would have been purely for our entertainment. I enjoyed all the Frozen offerings in the park and we even did the Frozen package (so worth the money for us). It was kind of a shame you had to pick which you wanted to see though - the stage or the fireworks - but overall if I had to go back and do it over again I would. It was just all enjoyable. We got Abby the same shirt too but she doesn't like it as much as the shirt I made for her.

Thanks - it was very good! I will be interested to see what DTD looks like next month to compare!

Thanks! Emily was so excited that one of her photos showed up! We tried to get the package, but was not able to for any of the dates that week - it was the first week, but I feel we still did pretty good with seeing it all - but they desserts and stuff looked pretty amazing at the party!

Your dinner sounds delicious! We have not been to Bongo's or Downtown Disney for a while. I am hoping to get there on our December trip. That is so awesome that Emily got to be a movie star!! Your treats also look fabulous!
Dinner looked yummy! We love Bongos, although haven't been in a while. I'll be glad when the construction is over at DTD!
Cool that Em & Olaf made it on the big screen!
Looked like a fun night at DTD with a nice meal at Bongos and the Frozen show! Pretty cool that Emily got to take part in the show! I've never ate at Bongos, but stopped there for a drink a few years ago. For Hispanic type food Paradiso 37 is very good across from Raglan Road and is quite reasonably priced as I dined there back in April!
