So you thought we canceled? (A Sept. PTR) - Page 26 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I'm so happy David told his mom AND you are all set for your vacation days! That is such good news!

Briana's new shoes, and can't wait to see the onesies
I can't wait to see them either! I am not even sure which ones Julie purchased, because she told me to pick my favorite three, and then told me that she purchased four!

Thanks. I don't know why I didn't think of that before. My dad is actually the one who pointed it out to me.

Also, nice to know there are job prospects out there. I know you mentioned that David hates working retail, but he applied for a Team Lead position at Target. What Team Lead position was it? Nate worked at Target for 10+ years, 6 of which he was Team Lead. The company was good to him, but he HATED working the front lanes as GSTL. It was the worst retail position according to him. Crabby customers all day long. Nate hit his breaking point and quit Target because of that position. He did enjoy being Team Lead of price change and I think one other area, but they kept moving him back to the front lanes and ended up in a situation very similar to David up until he quit. So I'm not saying write off Target, but just that it might not be that big of a difference from Walmart depending on the position.
I truly hope everything works out with David's employment. And yours as well if you happen to find something else. Your aunt is so sweet with getting you the Photopass CD and onesies for Briana. I half don't want you to post pictures of them though. I realized last night that Mallory has MORE than enough clothes for the trip. And if I see super cute onesies I might think she needs them.
I believe he applied for the Price Change Team Lead position, as it wa he only one open. I will warn you before I post the pictures. "DON'T LOOK MISSY!" Lol!

I hope some the applications do pan out for David. My only advice about working 2 part time jobs is make sure hw doesn't lose his medical benefits.
Your aunt sounds so sweet. I'm glad you took her up on the offer. I'm sure she wouldn't have paid for the items (shoes, photopass, oneies) if she didn't want to. She wouldn't have offered at all.
Right now, David is on his parents insurance since we aren't 26 yet. And in a week or so he'll be on my insurance as well. Walmart has such terrible insurance that costs its employees so much money out of pocket, you may as well not be insured! It's awful, actually. But that's a good thing to keep in mind while I look for work!

If we have these when we eventually get back there, I think my family colors will be....yellow-me, pink-DD, and probably blue for DH. Though, I think he is going to HATE having his on. I usually carries the whole families KTTW cards. I think he might end up not even wanting one. We'll see.
Can't wait to hear your report (in general of course) but also about the MagicBands.
I thought for years that David's favorite color was blue, but in the last six months ago he keeps asking for orange stuff. He got excited when he saw the orange band and said "I want that one!" Just goes to show...he has surprises for me even after a decade. Lol! I am so excited to try the MagicBands!

I like them a lot! And you can customize the names. I didn't want mine to say "Jessica" because David always calls me "Jess" or "Jessie." He smiled when he saw his nickname for me on the bracelet, so I'm glad I made the switch!

She should, as long as she's listed on the reservation. I wasn't sure if Bri would get one since she wouldn't have a ticket, but there it is! And the bands get smaller for babies and kids. There's a portion of the bracelet that you can remove, leaving a much smaller wrist band. It's actually very cool, though I don't know if Briana will end up wearing hers. We'll see how she reacts to it!

So, today is not quite as filled with good news, but it's still a pretty good day so far.
David had been eagerly awaiting an e-mail from his prospective employer, who had told him he would need to pass a test they would be sending him before they proceeded with the interview process. On Monday, instead of the e-mail he was expecting, he got a "sorry, the position has been filled" e-mail.
Personally, I find it irritating that they didn't at least send him the test and give him the interview! If you're going to select someone before you interview everyone, why get someone's hopes up? Ugh. I know it wasn't personal and that they probably found someone better qualified, but seeing that defeated look in David's eyes when he told me about the e-mail was heartbreaking, especially after his earlier excitement over it!
That being said, I gave him a pep-talk, and he has cheered up a bit, though he does keep bringing up the position he was passed over for. We're going to fill out some more applications later, so hopefully that will help him feel a bit better about the situation.
I also unexpectedly found a job listing that caught my eye, and I've applied for it. It's a position with a school district, an office position. I'm kind of keeping my fingers crossed and holding my breath. It would almost double my hourly pay, and provide me with a regular Monday-Friday schedule with 35 hours of work every week. *jumps up and down in excitement* With a regular schedule, I could start attending a regular college instead of taking classes online. And with such a marked increase in pay, our financial situation would improve dramatically!
After all of that blathering, I will say I am trying not to get my hopes up too high. I don't have any professional experience in this field, although I have plenty of experience using the programs I would need to use in the position and can demonstrate my ability...They may still pass me over for an interview for someone who has past jobs in the field. But I can try, right? I'll never get more experience in fields other than retail if I never TRY!
Anyway, on to Disney things!
I got so bored at work last night (it was excruciatingly slow last night at customer service), so I wrote up a new to-do list on my little scratch pad. I've actually done a couple of these since last night, so the ones in italics are completed.
1. Plan Briana's menu (how much baby food should we bring?). 2. Get David's hair cut.
3. Purchase sunscreen, first aid kit refills, a couple small new toys
for Briana for the airplane, batteries for the camera, and a new
sunhat for Briana.
4. Print touring plans, flight and hotel info for family, and packing
list.
5. Pack.
6. Clean up the apartment and empty the Diaper Genie before we
leave. (I'd hate to come home to that smell, lol!)
7. Make sure A.J. (our roommate) has groceries (since he doesn't
have a car or his drivers license).
8. Pack the diaper bag.
9. Double check that we have everything packed and ready to go.
10. Head to the airport!
I'd really like to start packing today, but I need to get some laundry done first, and figure out what can be packed now and what we need to keep out. Normally I wouldn't hesitate to pack all of our shorts and stuff now, given that Washington weather isn't usually so warm...but it's been HOT lately, so I may be doing some last minute packing whether I like it or not.
I have been trying to work on getting the apartment cleaned up and unpacked...sometimes I feel like I am fighting a losing battle there though, between Briana, depressed husband, and (sometimes frustratingly lazy) roommate. I mean, we moved in May. Shouldn't we be unpacked already?! We'll get it done though. I don't want to come home to a mess!
Anyway, I've got lots to get done today, so I'll catch you all later!
I am so VERY happy to hear about all of the new updates! You can even tell in your writing style that things are different. I love the colors you picked out for your MagicBands! We picked Yellow, Pink, and Red. Not much longer to go; I'm so EXCITED for you! Every time you post "doing excited dance" I can picture you with a smile and it actually makes me feel relieved. You're smiling; and that can brighten any day!
Sending lots of and your way for that job. You are so right - you never get anything, unless you give it a go - definitely the right attitude!
So sorry to hear about that other job - what a blow, although the way to think about it is if that's how they treat people, you probably wouldn't want to be employed by them anyway....
