Make your choice Adventurous Stranger...A Goin Solo PTR - Page 26 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

I am crazy!!!! I am all paid in full for MVMCP, flights and four nights at All Star Music with DME too. I reserved lunch at Marrakesh for the Candlelight Processional with Whoopie Goldberg. I am ready to cry. This has been my best Disney year to date. February was the quadruple birthday celebration at OKW, Oct holds my first solo trip at F&WF then holiday magic a month later. 40 is shaping up to be so much better than I thought!!

I don't think SW will show up on a search through Expedia, Travelocity, etc., I've never seen them when I've done searches that way. BUT, they are there, I promise DH works at EWR, I've got the inside scoop

OK, then please ask him why there are no non-stop flights to Disney That's why it won't show up for any search I would do on any site - I want non-stop. Their flights are usually 6+hours (direct flight is 2 1/2) and you have to change planes. Also, they're charging almost twice what I paid Continental - even with the "web only" fare. I guess they don't run good deals out of EWR.
Your 40th year is certainly a great one!! I'm excited for you...and yes...a bit green with envy, but I did celebrate my 40th there as well. Where else can you feel like a kid again on your 40th birthday?

Funny how I have everything squared away for my Nov/Dec trip but haven't finalized the Oct one yet! Wish the ressie system wasn't down for maintenance.

Don't think I've visited this much since I was a FL resident! Thank you, love that pic, feeling in a celebratory mood today and felt that pic was appropriate.

I wonder why, Newark is such a huge airport! I used to fly Continental to MCO they were so cheap on those flights. We just got SWA here in Greenville in March, before that the only cheap flights were Allegiant to Sanford and no DME.

True! Hoping to see a few additional 40th items since the offical date for MK is Oct 1.
Great news Booking MVMCP and your December trip. Is there going to be a PTR or just run this one into that one?
I actually thought about that this morning. If I start one now I'll be doing two simultaneously. If I wait till I get back, I'll be writing a PTR and a TR at the same time. What about writing them both here just using two different colors? Hmmm....
I'm seven weeks from the first one and 15 out from the second. I'm bursting with excitement and got to share. Plus, since I'm going solo, it would be nice to meet up with some PPs even just in passing so announcing my dates might make that happen.
Welcome to the PTR within a PTR. Geez, you folks are getting spoiled with this PTR - a TR and a PTR inside the orginial PTR. A wee introduction (again)
Who: Me, Jennie (40) workaholic and impulsive Disney trip planner
That's it, just me, again.
When: Wednesday, November 30th - Sunday, December 4th
Where: All Star Music
Why: I got me an AP and it's just screaming to be used
How in the world did I end up planning two trips so close together you ask? Well, let me tell you.
It started way back last year, I was just returning from a long weekend in Orlando for F&WF and Halloween Horror Nights at Universal. We were hot in the middle of planning our huge February trip to OKW but I was already looking ahead to the next F&WF my favorite time of Disney year.
I had missed the first (2010) Swan & Dolphin Food & Wine Classic by a week and started looking for possible dates for the next one. So I booked a room at the Dolphin for what I thought would be the weekend of the F&W Classic and left it alone.
Fast forward to April. Deep in Disney Withdrawal, I pulled up the ressie for the Dolphin and started the wheels turning again. At that point, my ex and I were having problems and I thought perhaps a solo trip would be a great idea. The only thing left to do was wait for F&W Classic, MNSSHP and F&WF details to be announced.
Once the official dates of the F&W Classic were announced and my guess at the dates proved correct, I purchased airline tix. A month or so later, Southwest threw a birthday party and my airfare went down, giving me a $133 credit. Seed ONE planted.
After I purchased tix for MNSSHP, I was looking at MVMCP and thought about how wonderful it would be to experience the holidays at WDW.
Seed TWO planted.
In talking with a coworker about his upcoming trip, we agreed the week after Thanksgiving was one of the best times to visit Disney due to low crowds, holiday decorations and good weather.
Seed THREE planted.
This brings us up to last weekend when I purchased the exchange ticket for the AP. Once the AP was mine, I could take advantage of all the wonderful discounts. Oh, looky looky!! Value resorts at $65 a nite, hmmm.....
Seed FOUR planted.
Then came Wednesday and Southwest announces a Fall Special of $59 one way. Golly, with my credit, I could get roundtrip airfare for $55!!
Seed FIVE planted.
ALRIGHT, ALRIGHT!!! Enough seeds already, let's grow something!! So I booked the flight, booked the room, bought MVMCP tix and reserved a Candlelight Processional Dining Pkg all within 8 hours.
Guess I'm going to Disney, again!
