On the road (3) A (hopefully) sunny September road trip to Spain COMPLETED - Page 26 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

That cave was gorgeous! What an interesting tour. Why no pictures though? I can understand in museums, etc. that they don't want things ruined due to flashes, but I'm not sure why they wouldn't let you here?
I think it's the same thing - they didn't want the caves to be ruined due to flashes. They had a lot of monitors, checking the humidity of the caves, so I think it is quite a fragile environment.
What fantastic views from up there. Breathtaking!!! Caves sure are a sight to see. I'm glad you survived the stairs though, holy cow!!

Thursday 9 September – part three: where on earth can we park?
We headed back to the car and headed out, stopping to use the restrooms on the way out. However, it was very clear that they had no running water supply to them – a little problem so after I reported that to Mark, he decided not to bother. I can’t say I blame him.
It was back down the winding road we’d come up and I was surprised by how quickly we left the entrance to the caves behind us. Almost within a matter of moments, it seemed like a distant memory.
Soon it was and we were back on the motorway again, heading back towards the villa.
We decided that we’d stop at Calpe and get some lunch at one of the seafront restaurants there, as we’d enjoyed them previously. We also knew that they’d be open even during the siesta. On the way, we did try to find the stupidly cheap Chinese that we’d enjoyed with Mark’s parents last year, but there was no way we could find it from our memories alone. We’d have to wait until they joined us to head back there.
We did find our way to the seafront easily enough, but that wasn’t the problem. The issue was finding somewhere to park, as the place was absolutely packed. We drove around and around and around a bit more and still found nothing. Eventually, not long after the car told us she needed gas, we decided to give up our search for a parking space and headed back out of the town. It was a shame, but there was nothing else to do.
We decided to head back to the villa, but I came up with another idea on the way back, suggesting that we could stop at a seafront restaurant near the villa, so that’s what we did.
There’s a beach on the way into Moraira itself that I’ve always liked the look of and fancied eating there, so we parked up and wandered that way. We found a table right by the waterfront and ordered ourselves a pizza each, with me going for the four cheeses and Mark getting a bacon one. They were pretty big and mine was certainly very tasty.
We sat there for over an hour, just enjoying the food and the view. I managed to get a shot of one of the views I enjoyed while I was there...
... but sadly by the time the topless woman went into the water and then came back out very shortly afterwards, I was eating and didn’t have the camera at the ready. to the guys!
Finally done, and having enjoyed our people watching, including a young loved-up couple who took forever to get into the water, we headed back to the car. Our final stop before we went back to the villa was the local supermarket, where we got a cake each, as they have the most amazing bakery there, along with a pineapple, although I nearly died when I found out the price of it - €7 ($9.10)!!!
The rest of the afternoon was spent relaxing at the villa. I went for a swim and managed to do a bit more than I had done the day before, which was encouraging. We also sat out in the sun for a while, although not long for either of us, as it was still burning out there and the last thing we wanted to do was end up with sunburn. :
We both had the cakes we’d bought, although I barely made a dent on mine, it was very nice, but very filling.
Dinner was salad, although my goodness, the massive spring onions we’d bought at Carrefour (honestly, these things were the size of a usual onion! ) were strong and neither of us could eat them, but apart from that, it was a wonderful dinner and fairly light.
We then settled down to watch the rest of Jurassic Park III. My goodness, it’s a good movie, but very short, coming in at something like 80 minutes. I couldn’t believe how quickly it was over.
Bored of the news channel, about the only channel we could receive on the TV, we flicked and finally found a couple of music channels, so watched those, before heading off to bed.
Today we drove 108 miles. The weather today was hot and sunny, with temperatures in the high 80s. The best thing today was visiting the caves. The worst thing today was my mosquito bite. Today we tried eating dinner by the beach And the result was it was lovely to sit there and just people watch. The most magical moment today was entering the caves.
I love that little restaurant. Those are the kind of places I like to stop at and enjoy, and thank you for not being able to post those pictures of the women! We went to Tahiti for our honeymoon and I saw my fair share there.

More great updates - thanks for not getting the topless woman's photo. Love the cave shots. I haven't been to any caves in a long time - perhaps I'm due for another trip to one soon. Sounds like a relaxing night.
