Living the Dream and remembering the Bagman TRIP REPORT COMPLETED IN THIS FORUM - Page 26 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Very neat you got to chat one on one with the Captain! Other guests loss is your gain I guess.
Gosh how I love Palo. This is sure to be another wonderful meal!

I agree totally with you that the CC status should be based on nights not # of cruises. I think that is the way most other cruise lines do it. I know that is the way on Royal Caribbean. We are advancing much more quickly there than on Disney. Nearly all of our cruises are 7 or more nights. When we sailed on Celebrity, we even gained points for the nights spent on the land portion of our land/sea package.

Wow, that is impressive, compared to Disney and I'm willing to bet that land portions of a Disney vacation probably cost more....

I can't get over the attendance for the CC reception but it certainly worked to your advantage! It sounds like you really enjoyed your time with the Cruise Director and Captain. I love the ambiance of Palo and the food selection looked delicious!
You have a very valid point regarding Gold and Platinum membership as it shouldn't be the amount of cruises you take but the quantity of cruise days which makes more sense! You've obviously paid more than someone who does just 3-4 day cruises.
The immense brunch spread looks amazing once again and it looks like it matches or tops the Cali on this! Which one do you prefer?

I know, and that's the frustrating thing. I give up moaning about it to Disney though, as I've never had a response to all the times I've written it down in my comments, so I doubt they'll ever change the system.

Palo definitely. Don't get me wrong, the Cali Grill one was lovely, but there's just much more selection at Palo.
Here’s what I got on my first visit to the Palo buffet – a lot of seafood here, along with marinated mushrooms, mozzarella and tomatoes, feta cheese with eggplant and tomatoes, and the slightly odd blue cheese and walnut bread, which was about as strange as it sounded.
Mark’s selection wasn’t too different to mine…
I went back to sample the cheese selection…
.. and although I didn’t get a photo of it, Mark had seconds as well – I promise!
I had to get up to use the restrooms during the meal, and wanted to get a shot of them. When I arrived, there was a cleaner in there. They were playing “Be Our Guest”, and she was singing along. I said “caught you!” and smiled at her and said “don’t worry, I was planning on taking some photos in here”, and she told me she’d leave, so I could get them. Very sweet of her!
Finally I was able to uncover which ship was outside…
We’d been surprised when we first sat down at our table, and found menus waiting for us. Franco told us this had only been done for the last three months, but it makes sense, as now you don’t have to allocate space to displaying all of your entrée items…
When I got back to the table, the first of our selections was delivered a moment later. It was as if they were waiting for me to return. Oh hang on, they probably were! It was eggs benedict with smoked salmon and hollandaise sauce. I was a little disappointed that the egg wasn’t more runny, which is how I like it, but the hollandaise sauce was very tasty, and you could tell it was homemade.
We both ordered a second selection. I wanted the rollatini melanzane, made up of lightly breaded baked eggplant filled with prosciutto, sweet ricotta and smoked mozzarella, served on a Toscana sauce, and drizzled with aged balsamic Modena. I wanted it, but obviously without the prosciutto. At first Franco told me he didn’t think that would be possible, but he said he’d double check, and I could have it without. However, I was really disappointed in it. I felt it was very heavy, difficult to cut, and I felt I could still taste prosciutto somewhere in it.
Mark had the Parmesan-crusted chicken breast topped with a San Marzano tomato basil sauce and mozzarella cheese, served on a creamy Arborio rice risotto. His comment when it arrived? I think the chicken got a bit flattened!
Once we were done with our entrees, we made our way over to the dessert buffet, and I had a few selections:
Of them, the tiramisu was the most disappointing, and I seem to remember that being the case last time as well. I did like all the others, which was at least something…
Mark went for a couple of different options to me:
And then that was it, we were out! Franco seemed surprised, but I figured we’d done quite well with how much we’d managed to consume.
He insisted on escorting us out of the restaurant (I think just to double check we didn’t want more to eat ) and got a couple of photos of us on the way out. I have noticed how amenable Crew Members have been this cruise to getting photos, which is really nice to see, as there is no way we were going to pay for a cruise photo package. They are just way too expensive!
On the way out, I asked if I could take a photo of the gold Remy that I forgot to photograph last night, but I was in for a bit of a shock when I saw it in the daylight – he’s crystal! It must’ve been how they had the lighting on him last night that made him look gold… very impressive.
