Points make Paris... TRIP REPORT COMPLETED 6/29 - Page 25 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Isn't that always the case. OH - the pool is empty, quick, let's go! And then everybody shows up too. Obnoxious kids in the pool is getting so very common, it's really taking away from even our own kids enjoyment. Not every kid (nor adult!) likes to be splashed! Our son will get out of the pool whenever the splashers get in. I totally feel ya there.
I can imagine that's a nightmare for some kids, especially ones who may not be that confident in the water.

Mark and his hats. Now that one is a keeper. Totally him!
That's the one thing I don't like about the hot tubs at some of the Disney resorts, unsupervised kids. Mark looks lovely in that hat.
have a wonderful cruise.

Nice photos from the hotel! That was just insane at the pool with the kids and what makes it worse is that the parents are more irresponsible than the kids are! Nice purchase in the shop.

As I have some extra time today, here's a bonus update:
Sunday 1 May – part nine: “Jafar is in the house”
We made our way over to Frontierland…
… and decided to risk it and give Phantom Manor a second chance. Hopefully this time it wouldn’t break down on us.
On the way, Mark found a new hat for his collection…
We made our way into the queue area for Phantom Manor…
When we entered Phantom Manor, the Cast Member announced in the entrance that “Jafar was in the house” and everyone turned round to look. I wanted the stretching room to be there now to swallow me up, I tell you! Still, he was very happy with all the attention, and that’s the main thing.
When we came out of there, it was coming up to 5:00pm, so we decided to go and stake a spot out for the parade. Frankly, we were too late – yes, that’s right, half an hour beforehand. The front row spots had all gone. In fairness, we had seen people sitting down when we’d walked in an hour earlier, so I knew this might be a possibility. We sat down and got the second row with the most utterly obnoxious family that I’ve ever had the misfortune to meet in front of us. Their group kept growing and growing, and don’t get me wrong, we’ve done that on big PassPorter meets, but they had a stroller and a wheelchair, and the wheelchair was still in the parade move. I just knew that would come our way.
The final straw came when the grandfather basically sat down on sat on my knee, jarring my back. I shouted at him, and he had the audacity to laugh. I told him in no uncertain terms what I thought of that behaviour. I got hit in the back by someone else – bear in mind I was sitting down, and I’d had enough. I have existing problems with my shoulder and it wasn’t worth making them worse for any idiot.
I got up and left, and we saw idiot grandfather again, who tried to say sorry, but was still laughing, and we both gave him a piece of his mind. By the time he walked away, I think he realised what he’d done, and was in shock at the way we’d spoken to him. Well, it’s about time you realised the consequences of your actions, mate!
There was no sign of Sara and Tom either, and they said they were just coming into the park. We told them there was no way they’d make it up to the castle hub, it was just far too busy and aggressive there. They managed to find a spot right in Town Square, so we ended up making our way down there, as they said it was a lot quieter, so much so that Daisy had a front row spot.
It took us a while to find them, but eventually we did, and they didn’t have a bad spot at all. Even Dave and Barb made it with about five minutes to spare before the parade started, so they got to enjoy too.
I will say here that the behaviour was better down here, but it was still downright rude. I had a grandfather next to me (what is it with grandfathers today? ) who had a very nice camera, and did not need to have his elbows out to get good shots, but that’s what he insisted on doing, so I spent all my time having to shoot around him, which was a real pain. He also came close to hitting me a couple of times. Honestly, people are in their own little world and really do impact on others without knowing it. Mark had a good spot, but had people try to barge in front of him. The behaviours we witnessed really were utterly disgusting, there is no other way I can describe it.
Well I'm glad you got to ride Phantom Manor without issue!
But wow. What's with the people? Parades are supposed to be happy, but this seems to be bringing out the rudeness in everyone.

Glad you had a good ride on Phantom Manor without a breakdown! What is it with these morons you are running into today? Are they having a convention at DLP?

First, bravo to Mark for having the nerve to wear that thing. I guess he doesn't suffer from being self-conscious
I love the pics from frontierland. Looks like very detailed theming there.
Oh don't get me started on rude, self-centered people. Sadly, it seems to be getting more pervasive. I'm glad you stuck up for youself, but who wants to have to deal with that when you're supposed to be enjoying yourself?

the Jafar hat!!
But the bad behavior? : Atrocious! Seems like you did at least get a good spot for viewing - and lucky it could accommodate the whole group.
I love the Jafar hat! A perfect addition to Mark's hat collection! He must have quite a closet full!
Yikes! What behavior! I think waiting for a parade seems to bring out the worst in people! If only he'd apologized after hurting you it could have defused the situation. Some people just don't know how to say "I'm sorry".
The Jafar hat was great!! Sorry about the rude people. I know we've all had our share of them, whether at Disney or other places. I totally agree with you about how people are so wrapped up in what they're doing, they don't realize how it's affecting people around them. Good for you guys for saying something - I have been known (on more than one occasion) to not hold my tongue either
Well, now we're back from our Baltic cruise, I can continue with this trip report, so without further ado...
Sunday 1 May – part ten: that’s still in use?”
As for the parade itself, it was very good, but like the Walt Disney World ones, you can see elements of parade floats being recycled for use. I saw one that I know they were using on our first trip here together in 2003. Back then, we were enchanted by it. Now we were like “really? That’s still in use?” Barb also commented that the parade seemed to be quite short, and I’d agree with her. It’s certainly not as long as it used to be, although having said that, they do still manage to cram a lot in, as you’ll see from the shots we got of it:
Once the parade finished, we moved out of the way of the seething mass of humanity that was now heading out of the park. I suspect that a lot of that is down to the fact that the park is often visited by locals, in the same way Disneyland in California is, and if you have a parade at 5:30pm, then most locals will decide to leave straight after that. By the way, in case you’re wondering why Disneyland Paris doesn’t have a traditional 3:00pm parade, I was wondering that too! There’s obviously a reason, but goodness knows what it is.
