An Island Frame of Mind (A Cam and Luke PTR) Updated 5/22 - Page 25 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

Epcot was not my favorite Park for along time. 2013 when it was DH and I, we took our visit at a slow pace I realized just how much we did not see before and now I love the Park. I make sure Spaceship Earth is among our first ride of day. I did not hear about a new QS near TT. We will get your review and decide from there!!!!
The QS place has been there for a while, serving pizza, but it has recently been refurbed and the menu changed as well as its name.

Cool! Epcot has a great mix of thrills and stills.

I love your list for EPCOT! When I make a list, there's neve a lot on it but that's what I like about EPCOT, it's more of a relaxing park. I can't wait to hear some reviews about the Taste Track!
Enjoy the train hotel, that is such a sweet back story. I don't know if you watch the Big Bang Theory, but your train room reminds me of when they went on the train restaurant for Valentine's Day lol!
We do watch Big Bang Theory (it's even on as I'm typing this). We loved the train restaurant episode.

That's a great list for Epcot and I'd have to put Illuminations on the top of mine as well!

I had to looke Rocky Mountaineer up, but realized as soon as I saw them that Luke has mentioned them. We'd also like to cruise Alaska but also take a train through that area.
That's what we are doing summer 2016--a 7 night Royal Caribbean Alaskan cruise to/from Seattle followed by 5 nights in the Canadian Rockies which includes a leg on the Rocky Mountaineer. I'm really excited about it.

I think a lot of us here love Illuminations!

Hollywood Studios has been my list favorite park from the beginning. I do enjoy some of the attractions, but the look of this park just don’t appeal to me. I am hoping that Disney’s plans for future refurbing will change my attitude, but that is must wait to be seen.
1. Though this is not my favorite park, my two favorite rides are located here. At the top is Tower of Terror. It took me years to ride it, but I was hooked after the first ride. I really can’t tolerate most thrill rides due to motion sickness, so the fact that I can ride this one and actually enjoy it “thrills” (pun intended) me.
2. Second on my top two list is Toy Story Midway Mania. The fact that we can get a FP+ and guarantee a ride each time we’re in the park is one of the biggest benefits for us of the FP+ system.
3. Since 2003, we have made every Star Wars Weekends. We’ve been watching through the movies over the past year as it had been a while, especially since we’d viewed the original three. In another update I’ll list all the must dos of this event.
4. As a classic, we love Muppet Vision 3D, but even we agreed that a major refurb, especially of the movie is probably in order.
And that is the sum total of my list. We will spend the whole day here on Friday, May 15 because of all the Star Wars Weekends activities, but our second DHS day won’t start late and will probably end early. It may not be my favorite park, but I still wouldn’t want to miss it.
Today marks exactly one month, 30 days, until we begin our road trip to Orlando. Luke asked if he’d need to be sure I’d get up early. Not when it’s Disney Time, he won’t. That also means that one month, 30 days, from tomorrow we will be back in the bubble.
Since January, whenever the weather has been warm enough we’ve been outside walking. Not every day has been a 5K as the cold was prohibitive some days. As of today, we have walked 104.8 miles for 2015. We even had two days this week that were warm enough for shorts.
Another nice list and TSMM and TOT are definitely two of my faves in the world and probably top 5. Getting so close at the 30 day mark now!
I'm actually off in the AM to Orlando for my first ever cruise on The Magic! An overnight at the Hyatt and then to Port Canaveral on Sunday for my 7 Night Western Caribbean Cruise! I just may be a bit excited at this point!

Love your lists Cam. Spaceship Earth has always been Epcot for me, I love Soarin and Test Track but Spaceship Earth is always the ride that we must ride the first day we get there and the last ride before we leave. Illuminations is also on my top list...I cry every time.
I kind of feel the same way about DHS - it is never a full day for us, Angel loves it as she can ride ToT and RnRC over and over - I enjoy ToT but not as many times in a row as she enjoys it....LOL
It will be interesting what the changes to the park will be and if it will become more of a full day park for us. Its funny though like you, as much as it is probably our least favorite park, we always have to squeeze a little time in there .
Cam, I feel exactly the same way about HS/MGM !! I think it's the layout as well. It truly has some of the best attractions, but we can get through it pretty quickly. I actually also like some of the restaurants there as well. I know it's not the best food in the world, but we love the campy atmosphere of the Sci Fi and the 50's PTC!. I also would never miss this park and the Star Wars stuff sounds really fun! We've never done that.
It's funny, because when that park opened at MGM it was my favorite. I the backlot tour (having experienced Universal in California first, I thought Disney's was MUCH better). I also thought that I wanted to become an animator so I adored getting to see the animators working toward the end of the tour. When we returned in 2010 as a family....it was our WORST park experience. The park had a completely different feel. We gave the park a try again in 2012, and spent about 1/2 day there. It was "ok" but I would have rather spent the time in another park.
