Escaping The Brutal Northeast For Sunny, Warm Florida and Fun! Completed 7/12 - Page 25 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!
Welcome! We're happy you've found the PassPorter Community -- the friendliest place to plan your vacation to Walt Disney World, Disney Cruise Line, Disneyland, and the world in general! Nice update. Will definitely spend some time in Mizner's on our next trip. Is tomorrow (in TR time) another golf day?
You'll love Mizner's! That and Bellevue at BWI are the best lounges in WDW. Haven't been to TOTWL at BLT as I'm not privileged for this! Next update is a golf round!

Great pictures of the Grand Floridian! That is my dream resort.
Great resort and place to stay and explore! If you're a DVC member a good place to use points. I'm not, but hope to do some day.

I was just taking photos and not looking for the Mickeys! It's such a great resort and always visit here on every trip as I always have an ADR here!
Not sure about the pink coloring as I'll have to take a another look at my photos. Perhaps, being the evening and no sunlight may have something to do with it or lighting within the hotel?
I don't really get the horse theme, but I love that glass conservatory look. Also, I'm struck by how pink everything looks in your pictures even though I know those walls are white (right?)
Glad you had a nice wrap-up to your evening!

I have to have my water with meals to keep hydrated with the wine. It's always something I do and a good thing! Mizner's is a great lounge and you must visit there, when you go to WDW on your next experience! I wasn't too happy with the service at BOG! I personally felt, that since I was a single diner as they just wanted to get me out of there asap to open the table up for two diners! I may just have had an unorganized server, but who knows as it's in the past several months ago now! No worries at this point!

By the way, someone is obviously telling me to give Mizner's a go.... I'm catching up on my WDW Radio podcasts and the one I'm on is a live review of... you got it... Mizner's!
I'm now convinced this is your calling! When you go to WDW in early 2015 for your next trip, tell Tammi Dave from Connecticut sent you! I think she'll be able to recall me this way!
It's funny, that even though I visit WDW once a year, she knows what I order. I guess that's part of the job with the memory!

I find this just amazing. This is something I could never do. How many times have you interacted with Tammi? That's awesome service and really makes a person feel at home.

I think this goes with the territory and almost like a part of their job! It's just funny that she remembers me from year to year as I'll only visit there a couple of times on a trip! She's just a great bartender and part of the reason I enjoy visiting there. I've had other bartenders and servers and staff in the restaurants remember me from year to year as well!

Glad I didn't get too far behind.
Sorry the service was lacking and that they rushed you at BOG. Sadly I did not get to see and enjoy lunch there. My parents and girls did and really loved their meal and was just amazed at the theming of the restaurant.
Glad you found your glasses! How cool to exit MK through some backstage areas!
I love looking around GF. I just think I would feel totally out of place staying there. I don't feel high class enough for the place.

I loved the tour of the GF in all its beauty. We are waitlisted to stay at the villas in May, so I tentatively putting Mizner's Lounge on our list to try if we wind up there.

I woke up today around 7 am as that was when I had the wake up call set for. I didn’t seem too tired after an active day yesterday for golf and in the parks. At least today, I would not have to carry my golf bag to in front of the resort for my taxi as it’s being stored by Disney over at the Palm/Magnolia courses. That is certainly convenient. Especially, if you’re not staying in a deluxe resort as the walk out front is certainly longer in a mod. Probably, more so in some of the value resorts. The worst one was carrying my bag a couple of years ago, when I was staying at the Coronado and located in the Ranchos section. That was a long walk for sure!
It seems like today is going to be another nice day as there is a perfectly blue sky, but it is a bit cool. It will warm up as the day goes on, but will wear a pullover, when I go to the golf course and probably won’t need it after an hour or so.
I walked over to Riverside Mill for some breakfast and was pretty crowded, even at 7:45 am. I had coffee, orange juice, a banana and a Dannon Oikos Strawberry Yogurt. Just enough to get me going in the morning. I returned to my room for a while and watched some TV and went over my plans for when I return from golf.
I got to outside of the front entrance to Riverside and had bell services get me a cab. They gave me a voucher to give to the driver as taxi rides to the Disney golf courses are complimentary for resort guests. I had to wait a bit longer than usual but one came in about ten minutes. It was only about five minutes or so to the Palm/Magnolia courses near the Magic Kingdom and across the street from the Poly.
I checked in around 9:30 for my 10:04 tee time at the Palm Course and when I came outside my golf bag (that I had stored here)was already on my cart! I set up my bag and got some water and ice for my round. I decided to practice some putting before heading over to the Palm’s first hole! It’s actually a bit of a drive in a golf cart and takes a few minutes as you have to go around the entire rear of the Shades of Green resort to get there!
When I arrived at the first hole, I checked in with the starter and met the two men, I’d be playing with. They are from Duluth, Minnesota. They told me they needed to come down to Florida as the winter in Duluth has been quite harsh as it always is. They asked me, when the courses in Connecticut open (full tees and greens and not temps) and I told them anytime from mid-March to early April, depending on the weather. They told me the courses near them don’t open until the middle of May! Ouch! That’s harsh!
We teed off on time and the round wasn’t overly long like yesterday. I played not too bad and shot around 95, I believe. Not too bad for this time of the year. I enjoyed playing with my partners and we enjoyed each others company. On a few of the first few holes, you can see many of the Disney motor coaches on the road going to and from the Magic Kingdom. One interesting thing is the sound of the race cars that can be heard from the Disney Speedway, which is close by. I had a hotdog and a red Powerade for a bit of lunch.
My round ended around 2:40 pm or so and one of the CMs cleaned my clubs and I told him to have my clubs transported over to the Lake Buena Vista course, as I’d be playing there on Wednesday morning. I had them get me a taxi back to Riverside and they had to call again as one hadn’t shown up in fifteen minutes. After the second call, one showed up in a few minutes. This happens at times as the taxi rates and tips are prepaid to the taxi companies by Disney and I guess some of the drivers, probably don’t like this!
I returned to Riverside at about 3:30 and got changed. I rested and watched some TV for a bit before heading to one of the parks. It was now quite warm out and no jacket was now needed. Probably temps in the upper 70's and not at all humid. Pretty much a perfect weather day!

Sounds like a wonderful golf outing! The weather seems to be perfect for golfing and touring the parks.
It was fun and the perfect weather made it even better!

Weather was perfect! Too bad with the taxi issues at times. Taxis aren't waiting here like at some of the resorts, so they have to be called. Just a bit annoying at times with the waits as I want to get back to my resort asap and do other things....like the parks!
