SuperDave's Adventures in Eastern France's Wine Country COMPLETE!! 6/13 - Page 25 - PassPorter - A Community of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disney Cruise Line, and General Travel Forums
As of January 1, 2019, we have closed our forums. This is a decision we did not come to lightly, but it is necessary. The software our forums run on is just too out-of-date and it poses a significant security risk. The server software itself must be updated, and it cannot be without removing the forums.
So it is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to our long-running forums. They came online in 2000 and brought together so many wonderful Disney fans. We had friendships form, careers launch, couples marry, children born ... all because of this amazing community.
Thank you to each of you who were a part of this community. You made it possible.
And a very special thank you to our Guides (moderators), past and present, who kept our forums a happy place to be. You are the glue that held everything together, and we are forever grateful to you. Thank you aliceinwdw, Caldercup, MrsM, WillCAD, Fortissimo, GingerJ, HiddenMickey, CRCrazy, Eeyoresmom, disneyknut, disneydani, Cam22, chezp, WDWfan, Luvsun, KMB733, rescuesk, OhToodles!, Colexis Mom, lfredsbo, HiddenMickey, DrDolphin, DopeyGirl, duck addict, Disneybine, PixieMichele, Sandra Bostwick, Eeyore Tattoo, DyanKJ130, Suzy Q'Disney, LilMarcieMouse, AllisonG, Belle*, Chrissi, Brant, DawnDenise, Crystalloubear, Disneymom9092, FanOfMickey, Goofy4Goofy, GoofyMom, Home4us123, iamgrumpy, ilovedisney247, Jennifer2003, Jenny Pooh, KrisLuvsDisney, Ladyt, Laughaholic88, LauraBelle Hime, Lilianna, LizardCop, Loobyoxlip, lukeandbrooksmom, marisag, michnash, MickeyMAC, OffKilter_Lynn, PamelaK, Poor_Eeyore, ripkensnana, RobDVC, SHEANA1226, Shell of the South, snoozin, Statelady01, Tara O'Hara, tigger22, Tink and Co., Tinkerbelz, WDWJAMBA, wdwlovers, Wendyismyname, whoSEZ, WildforWD, and WvuGrrrl. You made the magic.
We want to personally thank Sara Varney, who coordinated our community for many years (among so many other things she did for us), and Cheryl Pendry, our Message Board Manager who helped train our Guides, and Ginger Jabour, who helped us with the PassPorter-specific forums and Live! Guides. Thank you for your time, energy, and enthusiasm. You made it all happen.
There are other changes as well.
Why? Well, the world has changed. And change with it, we must. The lyrics to "We Go On" for IllumiNations say it best:
We go on to the joy and through the tears
We go on to discover new frontiers
Moving on with the current of the years.
We go on
Moving forward now as one
Moving on with a spirit born to run
Ever on with each rising sun.
To a new day, we go on.
It's time to move on and move forward.
PassPorter is a small business, and for many years it supported our family. But the world changed, print books took a backseat to the Internet, and for a long time now it has been unable to make ends meet. We've had to find new ways to support our family, which means new careers and less and less time available to devote to our first baby, PassPorter.
But eventually, we must move on and move forward. It is the right thing to do.
So we are retiring this newsletter, as we simply cannot keep up with it. Many thanks to Mouse Fan Travel who supported it all these years, to All Ears and MousePlanet who helped us with news, to our many article contributors, and -- most importantly -- to Sara Varney who edited our newsletter so wonderfully for years and years.
And we are no longer charging for the Live Guides. If you have a subscription, it's yours to keep for the lifetime of the Live Guides at no additional cost. The Live Guides will stay online, barring server issues and technical problems, for all of 2019.
That said, PassPorter is not going away. Most of the resources will remain online for as long as we can support them, and after that we will find ways to make whatever we can available. PassPorter means a great deal to us, and to many of you, and we will do our best to keep it alive in whatever way we can. Our server costs are high, and they'll need to come out of our pockets, so in the future you can expect some changes so we can bring those costs down.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for your amazing support over the years. Without you, there's no way us little guys could have made something like this happen and given the "big guys" a run for their money. PassPorter was consistently the #3 guidebook after the Unofficial and Official guides, which was really unheard of for such a small company to do. We ROCKED it thanks to you and your support and love!
If you miss us, you can still find some of us online. Sara started a new blog at DisneyParkPrincess.com -- I strongly urge you to visit and get on her mailing list. She IS the Disney park princess and knows Disney backward and forward. And I am blogging as well at JenniferMaker.com, which is a little craft blog I started a couple of years ago to make ends meet. You can see and hear me in my craft show at https://www.youtube.com/c/jennifermaker . Many PassPorter readers and fans are on Facebook, in groups they formed like the PassPorter Trip Reports and PassPorter Crafting Challenge (if you join, just let them know you read about it in the newsletter). And some of our most devoted community members started a forum of their own at Pixie Dust Lane and all are invited over.
So we encourage you to stay in touch with us and your fellow community members wherever works best for you!

How interesting that this theater is still in use! Very ! That crepe sounds wonderfully delicious.
It's amazing that this theatre is still in use, but it's been restored, kept up to date and is fully intact, when it was originally constructed some nearly 2,000 years ago!

The theatre was absolutely fascinating - amazing that so much of it is still standing all these years later.
The entire facade is pretty much the original. It seems, for the most part that the interior has been replaced over time with the seating!

Wednesday, May 15 (Day 2 of 3 in Provence-Part Four)
On my return back to the hotel, it began to rain somewhat. It’s not an easy walk in the rain as it’s all up hill and the road going up here, winds around a bit. You just have to make sure you have plenty of traction on your shoes, which I did.
Tonight, we would be dining in the same restaurant for dinner as last night (in the hotel), but not outside in the courtyard as it’s raining. By 7 pm, the rain was coming down quite hard. I went downstairs a bit off the main lobby, down some narrow, steep stone steps to the room (it is quite an old hotel, which explains this), where we’ve been having our breakfast each morning. They have a small bar area in which you can get wines by the glass here. I got myself a glass of Rose from Provence as did a few of my tour colleagues and hung out a bit with them before dinner in the lounge near the lobby. The Rose was quite good as was the company!
At about 7:30 pm, we went to the hotel restaurant to have dinner, which would be quite different than last night. We all started off ordering some wine and I went with a half bottle from the Rhone Valley in which is part of Provence. I had a Cairrane red, which is a medium bodied wine and quite good.
We were first served a small appetizer of some sort of fish terrine (like a pate), which was quite good. Not sure what kind of fish it was, but it was a white fish.
For my main appetizer I had a salmon tartare accompanied by legumes tartare. Hard to describe the latter but they are a dry fruit. There are various forms of them but lentils and peas are considered legumes. Both were very good and wish I had taken some photos of them to show you what they look like. Many legumes are cultivated primarily for their seeds. There were various components to the legumes tartare including some tomatoes and avocado as well, if I’m correct. It looked somewhat similar to this:
For my main course it was the French standard of Coq au Vin, which I had never had before. At least not a French version. It was accompanied by pureed zucchini and eggplant as well as potatoes au gratin. All was quite good and the coq au vin had wonderful flavor to it.
For dessert, I had a pastry with almonds, strawberries and topped with a caramel sauce. I really enjoyed this. All in all, a very good meal and no complaints from me about any of it.
After this great dinner, I waited a while before heading down into the lower town as the rain was still coming down quite hard. At about 9:30 pm, I made the short walk to the lower town and have an espresso and a Grand Marnier for after dinner at a café in town.. It was more or less a wine bar rather than a café and is next to the brasserie, I went to lunch earlier in the day.
After a while here, the rain really picked up and it was a deluge and just a big wall of water coming down . So, I wasn’t about to walk back to my hotel any time soon. To wait it out I had a small carafe of Rhone vin Rouge to pass the time. The place was quite busy with a lot of locals and tourists enjoying various wines and cuisine as well. The rain finally subsided after a while and I arrived back at the Hotel Beffroi at about 11:30 pm.
The trip is winding down, with only two full nights left, but there is still much more on the agenda!

The rain didn't really seem to interfere with any of your plans! Dinner sounded very delicious.
Yes, the rain didn't yet much in the way to this point....unfortunately, that would change a bit tomorrow! Our dinner was so good and so varied!

The rain didn't get in the way of my plans for the most part, but at least I had a great dinner.

Great dinner! Glad the rain allowed you to sit an enjoy a late night drink or two!
Had another one of many great dinners in France. I can't think of a bad one I had on this trip so far!
I guess there are some benefits to the rain at times, when you're on vacation. ! The drinks were good and so was the atmosphere and people watching, which I always enjoy! Rick Steves, himself, always strives this!

Was hoping to have an update today, but no such luck! Been having some problems with photobucket today, so no update yet! Pages are loading very slowly there and a few other sites. Trying to figure it out, but may be cookies or my browser.
Will try to figure it out and hope to get at least a short update tonight.
